  • ha ha yes! im trying to install warcraft 2 as well, what luck!

  • @gamedexterity thank you so much I love Warcraft 2 and now I'm playing it

  • mine says "blah blah blah dose not exist .. when i do first part..?

  • @HandyAndy97 dw i got it :P

  • I manage to install and run the game but when it comes to the shortcut, it failed. everytime i tried to launch the game through the shortcut, it will ask me for the cd.

  • hey dude im trying to play toonstruck but when i get to installing it it says unable to create the directory any idea how to fix this

  • @TheCay1998 Create the directory for it ahead of time.

  • sorry let me reword that i downloaded gizmos and gadgets from Super Solvers all 5 disks in folders and i want to install it on my windows 7 computer

  • @DougArtwohlMusic PM me a link to this game.

  • i have windows 7 and im tyrin to instal super solvers GIZMOS AND GADGETS.

  • when i get to where you type setup it says: "Illegal command: win." Now I know you probably cant fix that but do you know what it means? Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated!

  • @mortimormouse See the d-fend reloaded tutorial now.

  • i have local disc (c) and disc (d) what will the code be? how do i do it with command and conquer decade? i want to play red alert

  • @Steffenvonknudsen What is your cd rom drive letter? e? Please watch the d-fend reloaded tutorial too.

  • How do you know the letter of the virtual drive? D:

  • @victom111 I just know it. If its like daemon tools, I know what my letter is going to be. If its dosbox, I just pick "D" because its just a letter available. You can use whatever you want. - Versatile

  • can you do a tutorial on how to install dosbox i cant find any that are good

  • @anicentwarinator1990 I don't understand your request. Just double click on the dosbox install and just install it.

  • Comment removed

  • @gamedexterity request video dosbox tutorial how to install it and setup dosbox

  • @anicentwarinator1990 I have 3 dosbox videos, Watch them all so you get a flavor of how dosbox works. I'll do a dosbox tutorial in a few days then if you are still stuck.

  • @gamedexterity thanks

  • @gamedexterity i was wondering what are the 2 other videos you mention besides this one

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Type "dosbox gamedexterity". The one video is about how to install Red Alert into dosbox, and the other one is about how to install pinball fantasies. The concept in both videos is the same. When you watch it, you'll understand better. All I did was install dosbox ahead of time. Then depending on the game, instructions will slightly differ.

  • @gamedexterity thanks again these videos are really helpful unlike other users who make it really complicated but now i should be able to do it and just one last question i may have more later but anyway i was wondering after when i install dosbox 0.74 version should i create a folder in my c drive and call it oldgames and im planning on downloading monsterbash to dosbox and do you know any good sites that has all of these games at

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Yes, you can make a folder on c drive with oldgames, just to make life easier. A good dos game site is dosgamer (dawt) com.

  • @gamedexterity thanks i check out the site looks pretty cool i had no idea there was 3 monsterbashes out there i defiantly enjoy this site and when i start downloading dos games to dosbox when i mount i should put c in the middle for the game i about put in

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Yes, just put the games you extracted in the old games folder.

  • @gamedexterity so does it need other programs or just dosbox to run these games

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Dosbox is more than enough.

  • @gamedexterity so dosbox is the only thing which means i probally wont need programs like winrar and daemon tools awsome so just dosbox im still watching the tutorials to understand it right now the only drives i have are the c drive which is my main drive and right next two is my d drive and my 5 removable storage drives are e drive,f drive,g drive,h drive and i drive

  • @anicentwarinator1990 I did a new dosbox video few days ago for Harvester. It's like same process I did for all my other dosbox related games. See the newest one so maybe you can understand it better. I took extra care explaining that one in more detail.

  • @gamedexterity i watch the video of the harvester i finally understood on how it works and just to correct myself the part at where you were showing the drives of your computer at 2:07 would that picture with the dvd player of the cd would be the virtual drive because my computer has the same picture except it would be on the e drive so when i install dosbox and get it running i create a folder first call it oldgames and then open dosbox and type mount e and what should i type after that

  • @anicentwarinator1990 mount d e:\ -t cdrom

  • @gamedexterity then after it says mount installed i would need to put c c:/oldgames

  • @anicentwarinator1990 mount c c:\oldgames after you mount the dvd drive.

  • @gamedexterity then type c:\dir to see if the sounds or stuff in the dir and then type c:\install then it will install the game and will this work on every game to the same drive

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Its the same method. c:\dir is just a dos command that lists the contents of a directory. If you know DOS, you can navigate dosbox every easily. Not all games have a install.exe, so you got to play it by ear.

  • @gamedexterity cool thanks you are really helpful and i made sure to write these mounts correctly which mount d e:\ -t cdrom and then c c:\oldgames and then i would type c:\install last and i think i got the mounts down right and i have couple of other questions is it illegal to download dos games to cd or is it just the games like halo and bunch of others that are illegal to download to cd and last one do you know how to play pc games with a ps3 controller

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Downloading games is a touchy subject. I don't really want to spend time discussing values and philosophies around the subject. What I can tell you is that people download games all the time, dos and regular PC games, as well as console games for all different sort of reasons. Some do it because they want the game, and some because they just want a backup copy. To use PS3 controller with PC, need a driver.dll. See google. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity thats cool and i undertsnad and thanks for the help though i now know on what to do when downloading dos games correctly and i get to download old dos games like wolfenstein 3d,doom,doom 2:) so thanks and keep up the great work and i have been reading how to's manuals on how to hook up the ps3 controllers to play pc shooters like homefront, halo and doom which i wasnt fully sure if there was another way so i figured i could ask to see and so thanks for all the help

  • @gamedexterity i tried downloading monsterbash i was having problems mounting the game the first thing i did is installed dosbox then i secondly created a folder called oldgames and then after i did that i download monsterbash and extract the files in oldgames was i suppose to extract the files or was i suppose to create a second folder called monsterbash and when i tried mounting it wouldnt let me type mount d e:\ -t cdrom im not sure why i finally understood what to do but its not letting me

  • @anicentwarinator1990 No need to mount cd rom if it has no cd image.

  • @gamedexterity so what should i actually type to mount the game and im assuming that every dos game is different

  • @anicentwarinator1990 Not really. I just uploaded a new dosbox video 10 minutes ago for warcraft 1. Check that out. To be honest, the method is still the same, the only thing that changes if whether or not you got to use a CD-rom or not. That's about it. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity so its the same method on every game the only difference is the image which means not every dos game is going to have image where you can download the dos game to the computer so games like monsterbash sounds like you have to have cd for it which i am lucky because i have 5 blank cds for games im planning on downloading and so games that you have download recently dont have to have cds

  • @anicentwarinator1990 I will have to test monsterbash. You don't have to burn any CDs to play monsterbash.

  • Thanks, this video helped alot, but I can't seem to use it right. I still can't play the game 'harvester' on it, it says 'ERROR! [id:04c5] - "could not read abm_filename: 1:\graphic\other\wait\.abm"

    Please help me if possible!

  • @Filtergirl8 Can you send me a link to this game? I'll see if I can get it working.

  • @gamedexterity I only have the CD copy of it, maybe you can find a torrent?

  • @Filtergirl8 Game is just called "harvester" ?

  • @gamedexterity Yes it is. :)

  • @Filtergirl8 And it really is 3 cds? *groans*

  • @gamedexterity Uh yes. ^_^; if you can't be bothered with it, i understand, but i couldn't figure out anywhere else to go, since it's such a old game.

  • @Filtergirl8 I will eventually get it,and I will show you how to make it work. Stay subscribed so you can see that video when it finally airs in January 2012.

  • @gamedexterity Oh THANK YOU THANK YOU so much! Your so sweet! i certainly will! :)

  • when i try to run setup.exe it says that it cant be run in DOS mode?

  • @Snakester789 Run the game in windows. Thats how you know it is not a DOS game. Try win98 compatibility mode.

  • I'm not the best at english. So my problem is that i don't know what my drives are. A: B: C: or D; og what ever. I got it mountet right one time. And i forgot what the drives were. So now i can't play the game again ;S

  • @MrMotherFuckingSkank Then reinstall the game.

  • I can open the installer. But when i have to choose what drive I wanna install it to. It says that There isn't enough space on any of my drives :( Its "Full Throttle" btw. Plz someone help! :)

  • @MrMotherFuckingSkank Send me a copy of the game and I'll do a tutorial on it.

  • @gamedexterity

Thanks. But I just fount out how to do it. But now my problem is. How do i run the game. AGAIN? :)

  • @MrMotherFuckingSkank Go to your mounted game directory and run the game in question.

  • @gamedexterity First of all thanks for the video, it was really helpful. I got everything to work correctly and go into the install, but when it got to the end it says I need to insert the install disk in drive A. I got the download for the game off the internet and I need to install it still. I appreciate any help you can give me, thanks.

  • @snowethan7 Just remount the game and finish install.

  • huh? I don't have an old game map I just have the CD hmm....

  • What if we managed to install the game without DOSBOX, but can't run it? What would we have to type in?

  • @TUNADRAGONTACOCOW Mount the directory in which the game is installed in, then run from inside dosbox.

  • @gamedexterity Sorry, but I'm completely incompetent. If you find the time would you pm me the actual directions? You don't actually have to, I don't care that much, but if it makes you happy then that would be appreciated. Otherwise, who gives a damn. :P

  • how do we do it for online download we did

  • @az09234567890 What? You can play online by getting the red alert 1 portable edition. - Versatile

  • if I type setup it says illegal command?

  • @GSkillzTV That means you're typing something wrong -Monoxide

  • thx man this really helped me operate dosbox better

  • I cant do a backlash please help

  • @parfumfashion Should be under backspace -Monoxide

  • @gamedexterity ya i pressed it but it gives me a bracket... instead i tried doing the ctrl f1 but i dont know how to set things up over there...

  • @gamedexterity Try googling the Alt-Code for it. Sorry I don't know it off the top of my head

  • @gamedexterity Can you please help ive not got a clue on where to start it keeps saying so and so drive dont exist please tell me on how to get this working im a noob at this WTF? is a directory and all that i dont understand im just trying to play some classic CNC Tiberian Dawn thanks alot.

  • @jesse6788 Did you mount the virtual CD rom drive and your virtual hard drive? - Versatile

  • i got my c drive mounted but i cant get any games to run i really want to run planetfall and zork please help

  • @xxraistlanxx Install them, and then run them inside dosbox.

  • @gamedexterity Thanks for uploading this man, refreshed my memory in DOSBox...Now...Time to rebuild my collection of Abandonware...*Scampers off to do just that...*

  • I dont have a "game drive" I have a local disk. how would I set it up for a game called "simants"?

  • @HellHound60248 OMG I love simants! Especially using the magnifier glass and burn the ants or put a spider stuck in a circle of rocks and lay ants on them to fight! Make a folder on your C drive called old games. Now copy and paste your simant into that folder. Now run dosbox, mount the virtual C drive to your c:\oldgames folder. Now go into that folder, and install simant. If you PM me the game, I'll make a tutorial easily. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity

I like your tutorial. Its really easy to understand execpt i have one problem. I don't think dosbox 0.74 can mount an ISO file of a DOS game thats burned on a CD-R. It just freezes up when i try to install the game to C:\Games. I'm trying to install "Star Crusader (1994)." I browsed the files on the disk and didn't find a "setup" or "install" EXE anywhere. There was a "Scr" EXE file though. Don't know what else to do to install the game. I lost my original retail disk.

  • @PhazonDarkSamus Let's see if we can make magic together. Can you make an ISO image, rar it, and upload somewhere and send me the link? Worst case scenario, break it up into 200 mb chunks and host on mediafire. I'm a bid advocate of old school games. The older the game, the greater the love begins. - Versatile

  • Great tutorial! Was very helpful, thanks.

  • My game drive is E:, but when I type in E:\>setup, I get a message saying 'Illegal command: win.' What do I do with this?

  • @thehayleybreanne Hmm. Did you install from CD already? - Versatile

  • i had huge problems with gettin my game "legend of kyrandia" started with dosbox because i had to use a cd rom but i couldn't figure out how to type this in dosbox, but now i can - this was a big help for me

    regards from DK

  • Greetings, and I must first say thank you for this tutorial.. however when I went to get the program (Dosbox) I did not see a 64 bit version for Windows, I have Win7 64bit.. and the version of DB I saw said 32bit.. will that work on my system as well... I am unsure about downloading and trying to install in case it screws up my pc..lol thanks

  • @Kazahmish Please see my other video, C&C red alert in 64bit dosbox and Windows 7. I am running x64 right now, and I can assure you dosbox does work 100%. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Confirming that it's working on 64 bit Windows 7 :)

  • Ahaha! Holy shit! Thank you very much for this. I was trying to get Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries to run for about 2 weeks before I found this. You sir, win.

  • This helps me alot.

  • I get the error: This program requires Microsoft Windows. The problem is, i am using that! Any help?!

  • @HunteRFreaK5 Go to the dosbox forums. I never had this issue, sorry! - Versatile

  • Ok i set it to a virtual cd rom drive but it still gives me the "Please insert your cd" message any help would be appreciated

  • @zombe08 Watch my other Dosbox video where I did an example with a pinball game. If you don't mount the ISO, you get that cd error message. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Allright I got it to work thanks for all the help

  • @gamedexterity Please link the video, cuz just saying what is in the video doesn't help me find it :P thanx.

  • @merlynthehealer Type "Dosbox gamedexterity". We only have 2 or 3 tuts on it. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Still doesn't help that that all you say, but thanx anyway. . . . .

  • @gamedexterity I'll figure it out on my own I guess.

  • How do I mount it in a virtual cd drive?

  • @zombe08 I show it in the video. - Versatile

  • I am using win xp i do not have a E drive

  • @firelightyear Why should that be an issue? Use your own drive, don't copy what I do because I have a different setup. Think outside the box. - Versatile

  • Hey. I have some problem installing the program. The main problem was that i have windows 64 bit, so i tried dosbox. But i can still not install it bacause i have 64 bit. Any idea?

  • @TracksData Dosbox should work in 64 bit, doesn't it? - Versatile

  • Hey, a have a litlle problem. The game says that i have to put in the cdrom drive. Any ideas?

  • @TracksData Mount the game in virtual CD drive then. - Versatile

  • DO you copied and paste the warcraft 2 file to the file that says old games?

  • @Leny1777 No, I just install it from the disc.

  • it says this game requires Microsoft Windows can u help me? and I have windows 7

  • @Masspker999 What game is it? - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity The oregon trail Version 1.2

  • @Masspker999 Running this in dosbox fails? How about windows 95 compatibility mode? If you can upload a link to the game, I'll test it. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity its a cd rom game

  • that shortcut worked a treat but now whenever i open dosbox it tries to load my game is there away to have seperate configuration settings so i can load dosbox normally without it loading my cdrom game?

  • @celicamanroly How about make a new shortcut? - Versatile

  • Z:\>d:

    D:\>setup

    D:\>win setup.exe

    Illegal command: win.

why is this happening? why does win come up when i didnt type it?

  • @patronen94 : What game? - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Pyramid: Challenge of the Pharaoh's Dream ( it´s actually not a dos game but i have wied other clips that you can start win95/win98 with dosbox to)

  • @patronen94 Why not run win95 or win98 compatibility mode? - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity i tried but it didn´t work.

  • Comment removed

  • @waffleskoolaid Not sure how I can help there. Check their forums. - Versatile

  • Spent an hour screwing around. Found out that I could just drag and drop my DOS folder into the DOSBox.exe and type "install". Totally feel like I accomplished something important :D.

  • (2 of 2)

Also on the cd there are 2 folders 1 named PFD and the other SOUNDSYS.

The best attempt I had was when it said PINBALL FANTASIES has not installed properly, please try again.

    Many thanks for your help.....

  • @gary72carol61 Can you do me a favor, zip up the game and put it on mediafire, then send me the link? I will personally try it out and see what is going on. - Versatile

  • @gary72carol61 OMG OMG OMG OMG. I have the game, and I got it to work man! Making a special tutorial video just for you and any other guy out there that wants to relive this game! MUAHAHAHHA. - Versatile

  • ahh great, this video helped a lot. i have tried other videso buthing came of it. i was trying to get terminator future shock to run for the longest time. finally my money wasnt a waste and i can play it now

  • i dont understand why mine says "error no cd rom" did i do something wrong

  • @gamersed94 Not sure. Did you follow what I did in my video as an example? I would do the same for your game as well.

  • @gamedexterity

Ok I am sorry but I have followed your instructions and after 87 attempts I have no choice but to ask you if you could guide me through this with my info, thanks,

My main drive is C in here I have a folder named GAME.

    My Blu-Ray Drive is E

    My virtual Drive is F

I am trying to play Pinball Fantasies in Dosbox which I have on cd but can not get it to run.

On the cd there are 2 files that have their TYPE showing as APPLICATION, these are the .EXE files you mention.(1of 2)

  • @gamersed94 yeah i did everything, but i did noy mount the drive i'm using. but i have the pirated version (swiv 3D) because i can't seem to find my old cd

  • i wish people wouldnt make intros at all

  • @robsgaming1 So what is your thought process? Skip the intros, skip the endings, just go straight into the material?

  • @gamedexterity yes!! i almost just said fuck it im using my windows 98 machine cause your intro took 5 hours XD

  • @robsgaming1 I am ashamed of this intro. I didn't make it, my partner did. That is why all new videos starting with video number 88 or so has a 10 second intro.

  • sadly this does not work for me, the dos box screen shows a bit of the setup background and just a lot of letters all around the screen :/

if you have any ideas of what might be the problem they would be well appreciated.

    btw

I was trying to install Warcraft 2

  • @holdfui I installed dos warcraft 2 in dos box. You can download the battle.net version which is compatible with Windows.- Versatile

  • I've performed all these steps and when i try to run the game it asks me to insert the cd even though it is in, what have i done wrong?

  • @Chumara22 It doesn't make sense because you told dosbox the drive letter for your cd rom drive?

  • @gamedexterity

yep i did, my only guess is the disc might be unreadable now since i've had it for quite a long time and it's not exactly in tip top condition, but other than that i don't know whats wrong

  • I just got this thing working for Toonstruck on disc - this tutorial is pretty confusing if you don't speak 'computer geek'.

Heres what you do. Create a folder in your C: drive (your hardrive) call it 'game'. and find out what drive your CD is in (mine is E)

Open DOSBOX and TYPE mount e e:/ -t cdrom hit enter and TYPE mount c c:/game hit enter and TYPE e: press enter, then TYPE dir and then just TYPE the corresponding .EXE file: (setup, install) Click enter and BAM. Simple

  • @anakinthehutt Yea, thanks for the simple example. I'm going to add it to more info section to help out those who are not totally familiar with PC computing. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity oh hi , so i bought age of empire 1 and 2 and i installed them iin my computer but im sck ofhaving to use the cd everytim i wanna play...can yu please make a video or help me on how to create a launch image to launch the game without having to insert the cd eerytime PLZ ANSWER

  • @jeysson14 Why are you posting this question on a dos box video? Go to gamecopyworld and get your no cd executable there. - Versatile

  • @anakinthehutt im having trouble on the "TYPE dir and then just TYPE the corresponding .EXE file: (setup, install) Click enter" part lol sorry im 12 and it confuses me i can do the other steps though

  • Horrible tutorial, didn't make any sense....what is this?

  • @Sikeman214 Wrong. It does make sense. - hellome7

  • @gamedexterity It made perfect sense to me.

  • @Sikeman214 I watched this tutorial today, and it made perfect sense. I learned how to install Worms 1 from CD and dosbox worked great. Before you criticize a tutorial, do a check on your understanding. This tutorial was good, and definitely better than the other youtube tutorials.

  • when i type in setup it just tells me that its a illegal command what do i do!?!

  • @bigdady2700 Setup is a valid file on the game disc, right? Not sure why it fails. Consult the forums. - Versatile

  • Comment removed

  • @bigdady2700 Goto my computer and right click on the cd, look at what the install file is called :) ..type that instead ..just followed this to setup x- com apocalypse ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @LAHrebirth 1) I could not install the game in windows 7. I had to use dosbox, and if that was not even an example of game installation, then how would you describe it? 2) Hmm for the ultra old game, the ones I have seen, there is a setup exe where you can run the sound configuration. DOXBOX supplies emulated soundblaster audio 16 bits. - Versatile

  • THANK YOU!!! Your simple video tutorial helped me install a very OLD game "Leisure Suit Larry Shape Up or Slip Out!" using DosBox. I appreciate you taking the time to demo that. Happy gaming!

  • The game i'm trying to access is museum madness, and i've got it so i installed it, and then i played it for a while. and i'm wondering how i can start it up again without installing it, or do i have to install it everytime?

  • @dancinluva20 No need to install every single time. Just navigate to that game directory and run the exe! - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity how do i do that? i dont know where to find the game directory.

  • @dancinluva20 You have to use the dos commands and access the directory to where the game is installed on your virtual hard drive. - Versatile
