To do this is simply to focuse you chi energy and imagne that the flam is goign out while you strike. Im 16 and i can punch kick and even stare a candle out
when i tried this and couldent do it.. i pretty much had a fight with the candle and threw multiple haymakers... and yet it just stood there and laughed
Now try it with your fist closed THE WHOLE TIME. When you close your fist at the last second it helps blow out the candle, which makes it more of a trick than a technique.
@hazza3 If you close your fist as it comes up to the candle, it creates an amplified gust of wind as opposed to just doing it with closed knuckles. I find the closed knuckled ones most impressive.
How the hell do you guys do this? I threw a thousand punches as fast as i could and the flame wouldn't even bend (let alone extinguish). Do you have any tips or do i just keep throwing punches until I develop the proper snap to put out the flame
do you have martial arts training? actually i couldn't do it everytime. i thought it was easy since i found many youtube tutorials of people who can do it. sorry i couldn't give you much useful advice, but what i feel is, the punch have to have very straight movement, and no wobbling, this way the air is "concentrated" then the rest is practicing...
Yeah, there are some people that say to concentrate and release your chi and whatnot, and I've seen some fairly weird stuff on here (chi blast? Sounds like Dragonball Z.. but I guess maybe?), but I think it's just the wind from your punch and punching technique. You can also use fingers. On Mythbusters they did something similar.. only with a large fire and dynamite. The explosion created a pressure wall which put out the fire. I mean I prefer just flicking the candle wick, lol.
Don't throw a thousand punches. Close your eyes, take a few deep breathes, and FOCUS. The point of this is to get a single punch fast enough that the candle goes out. Throwing more than one punch doesn't help at all. Throw punches one at a time, and focus definitely helps to do it. The snap helps too, but you should have the proper form and technique. Standing there shooting off punches one after the other at a candle won't help you so much.

Some fighters would close their fist at the last second for better speed.
A closed fist during its thrust would be much slower and is probably not as damaging.
Its the force of impact coming from the fist movement.

@Zalo10 A closed knuckle will be harder. Especially if they tense because the punch wont be fast at all.
Relaxed muscles on extension and then harden the muscles. Thats the key to a powerful punch.
Some fighters will have their hands clinched up but they aren't key gripping them.

i can do this from like 3-4 feet away, its all about technique, and it isnt really hard to tell the truth.
