We love your recipe thank you for sharing this tradition with the new generation. We had made your pasteles already two years in a row & they have become now part of our family. My mother in law God bless her soul try to teach us but we never really wrote anything down or recorder the process but once I found your video it was like having her here with us once again so the pasteles tradition lives on. We really enjoy making them for the family & it is a lot of fun & a beautiful Christmas tradit
If your cooking a Puerto Rican Dish, please play some traditional music. Also lower it a bit. I'm trying to hear you not the music!!!! Leave the Bachcta for Domenican Recipes!!!
I loved visiting with the Rivera Family as they prep for the Holidays. Thank y you for inviting me into your home and kitchen. I love your mami Rivera, she is so cute, especially when you interviewed her at the end of your clip. Now anxious to see how your dads mixes up the masa.
THANK YOU AND YOU'RE MOTHER :) omg i did this yesterday following the videos and they came out soooooo good i'm dominican and my husband is puerto rican we both loves this but i didn't know how to make them but thanks to you and you're mother now i know. and girl i keep the piece of paper where i wrote down everything locked lol!
Love your recipe. You showed 4 plantains and 3 green peppers as ingredients but I don't think you used all of it from the videos. Looks like maybe only 3 plantains and 1/2 of a green pepper? Is that right?
I'm sorry but that video was made a while ago and I uploaded it more because neither my sisters, daughters or I know how to make it. I am pretty sure we used it all because we had about 30 pasteles in the end and still some of the grated masa and meat ingredients left over and stored for use during New Years.
I believe my mom does mention how many to use.
Thank you for your interest and for posting your question.
The person who stated that they used "Taro" is probably from Hawaii where I live. Taro is one of the stable foods "starch potato" type of bulb grown in clean patties of flowing water which resembles that of a bulb grown in a muddy soil. The tops of the taro is also processed for consumption. I think that the "taro" would be similiar as the Yuca or starch type bulb vegetable that you had shown earlier. Very similiar in description as well...thanks!
Thank you for posting your information about Taro. It is very interesting and I always appreciate learning alternate ingredients to create a new dish.
Thanks for the video.. it was helpful! Also.. I'm buggin' out your family name is Rivera and Afanador!! Thats my family's name.. I haven't met an Afanador yet... wow. Made my day ;)
Appreciated the beautiful ladies HARD work and for making this possible. I have to THANK YOU for making this video and the easy instructions. My family loved this dish when I made it for our New Years Eve party. Been requesting for more ever since. I also used taro and it came out great.
I have a good friend who is from Hawaii and told me about taro. I am very happy to know you did a good job with this difficult recipe and that you personalized it . Now you'll be the one the family looks to for it. LOL.
this is very good,, i would like to finish warching it but even though the music is not bad,, i cant concentrate,,its a bit too loud,, but nice going,, =-)
Hi there. So your father's family is Afanador? Hmm, I wonder. My ex husband's father's last name is Afanador and my maiden name is Rivera but I have only been to Puerto Rico once when I was 12 and do not really know the island.
this has to be one of the most delish foods in the universe....your explanation w/show & tell makes your posting a must. on our side we use taro in place of malanga because it's cheaper. million thnx!
i am very pleased you enjoyed and understood the video. You said you use taro where you come from and where is that?
This can be a very expensive dish to prepare but compared to what they sell it for in the grocery stores and the quality, it is a good investment for a Holiday meal.
Ya compre los ingredientes, quiero sorprender a mi esposo el es de PR, Caguas y ahora estamos viviendo en Vero Beach, espero la 4ta. parte,,,saludos Yolanda
