Regarding the evil dictator getting away with it... yup, there are crappy things that happen in the world. Unfortunately most of them are perpetrated by people with delusional beliefs. Let's help stop the delusion.
The best advice many "intellectuals & athiests" have is to go read books & do research. Will they tell me "the universe always was?" Kind of like God "always was" I have noticed that basically anything can be printed. It does not necessarily have to be true or accurate. example: people trust wikipedia & the internet all day long, newspapers, TV, etc. Why don't you actually research the accuracy of the Bible, it has the most original documents in the history of ANY PUBLISHED BOOKS.
How about we start with a way better question? Have you ever personally read the Bible?...probably not & that is what I thought. I am not talking about the hear-say about the Bible from mainstream media...I am talking about read it for yourself with an open mind. The geography, the kings, the wars, copying it word-for-word is ALL ACCURATE. You may not like it, but it is... What is not accurate is the fossil record, the true age of the Earth or most made up info about evolution.
look, the bible is nonsense. i refuse to waste my time reading a bronze age myth. im not going to explain how i know its nonsense simply because i dont have enough space on these short posts. if you do believe the bible and all the unscientific gibberish in it then fine. im glad im not you. oh and just because stuff adds up in it proves nothing. all novels out there have a continuity of plot. that doesnt make those stories true either.
"Imagine there is no heaven, above auschwitz", think about Wilson's argument. He is simply stating there is not justice in this world, so there must be justice in a supernatural realm. If we were to acquire a bin of oranges and the top oranges were rotten, we wouldn't suppose that under those rotten oranges there are unspoiled ones. It seems, rather, that since there is no justice in this world it shows that there isn't a all-benevolent deity governing the universe.
It is not my responsibility to educate Mr. Wilson (unless he were to request my services of course), it is Mr. Wilson's responsibility to educate himself. An understanding of a more and more true approximation of reality is barred only to those who are intellectually lazy, or greatly materially disadvantaged.
Though, I do offer a suggestion of how to begin:
Read recently published introductory text books and directly observe and confirm the findings with instruments that are widely available.
You must be quite the noble to have figured out the "true approximation of reality" all by yourself. Might I assume that there is a line of truth seekers outside your front door desiring insights into the depths of wisdom and knowledge?
Or, perhaps you and Wilson have chosen different published books as the guides and basis of your underlying presuppositions. Last time I check we have yet invent an instrument that reveals metaphysical truths.
Personal incredulity will get you only as far as you have already come
You don't understand what a microscope is, much less that steps can be taken in order to coax knowledge from it and similar devices by careful observation
There really is nothing hiding in the shadows. We are alone if we do not have each other and referring our problems upward will bring you only what you want it to
Reality CAN be observed quantified and modelled by human brains, whether the god in your mind likes it or not
