the "unkown character" is whitaker as you can see from when he is talking if you go to the passing campaign he may appear as an infected and @piemakeshappy the survivors don't wear gas masks since they are immune since even if bitten or eaten they won't become infected like bill also on the passing you find him dead so he was also immune but not invincible
