I saw Jon Hendricks at Ronnie Scotts last friday night- can you guess with which song he ended the second set? What a legend...and it was at the same speed as this recording. Respect!
It`s a scientific fact that... the Human Ear can only hear just so many words per second...err....ahh...but this rule does not apply here...L.H.& R....are just so amazing..I wonder if all of the Rap Artists can Dig these `Cats`..!!!
Clevr, Charming and downright genius! I always forget about Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, which is a shame because they are ridiculously talented. I think many people tend to do the same because they were an oddity in an era with so many stars; and outside of the Swingle singers there were no other vocal groups that made waves. I'm just glad that they have not been forgotten and continue to be discovered by new jazz enthusiasts.
I am 58 this year and when I was a child my father would put this on and my brother sister and I would try our best to sing this. We didn't do too bad. But we bring this up every so often and we still try our best to keep up with the great L H & R. I am so grateful our parents introduced us to jazz at an early age. L H & R were the best! I too find this amazing!
No HammerOvThor, you're not the only one. My little sister and I first heard this same recording from an old jazz record of different artists we bought at a garage sale back in 1973. Still, to this day, we consider it to be one of thee greatest jazz vocal songs ever recorded and I have to believe that The Manhattan Transfer had to have been greatly influenced by these 3 great artist. Keep listening to great music.
@HammerOvThor I found it amazing over 50 years ago! Blew me away! Hung out with Jon in a doorway on 52nd street in the middle of a torrential downpour and all the while he was singing the 'craziest' shit and telling great stories! In 1979 I played in a concert backing Jon and his family The front line, besides myself feature Roger Newman on Tenor Sax, and Benny Powell Trombone! Rich Pulin
Oh my god that's awesome! I'm a teenager, so I've never had the chance to experience their music firsthand. That's really great that you got to play with him, though. What was it that you played, may I ask?

My Grandad said he saw Lambert Hendricks and Ross at the bulls head in barnes in the 60. I'm sure that man never liked a bad record...
