I don't like Lea Michel's work very much (GLEE) but I have to admit that was really good. I do prefer Samantha Barks though cause I felt like Lea tried to hard to sound like she was in pain and forgot about the beauty. Not to say it wasn't pretty but... Samantha all the way! And also I don't like Taylor Swift. No offense.

I am a big fan of Lea and I think she does a great job. But Samantha Barks on the 25th Anniversary performance at the O2 was awesome and a little bit better.
Her voice is gorgeous, I will not lie, and her gasps added to the sense she was in pain, but I feel that her hugs were too over-the-top. She's supposed to be dying; one wouldn't do that.

To have a perfect voice in this scene wouldn't give it the emotional punch it should. So the fact that Lea acted her butt off, like she truly was shot and bleeding to death, the sound of tears and cracks behind her dying voice had me in tears the whole time. John's ending, reaching out and then having to be pulled back as they take her away was devastating. Brilliant.

In the novel, a bullet passes through her hand then through her back as she saves Marius from being shot in the first attack on the barricade. If she'd been shot in the head, there's no way she'd be able to talk/sing at all...
Over acting !!! Over Emoting!!! Full of gasps. we all know she is dying but to push it like that is just way too much. Al I can remember are the gasps after every word, nothing more. It ruined the song entirely. See how overacting can cause a song to get ruined?
I've seen many of these scenes and this is by far my favourite. She puts the right amount of emotion in it and her voice is mostly very clear. Some performers really go too fast with this song or have no shaky (dying) voice or too much of a shaky voice. This is perfect for my ears :D

I thnk she's absolutely fabulous here, the breathy quality and desperation, but not to live, just to be near Marius. Incredible (although it has nothing on Nancy Sullivan)

Lea's performance made it more emotional for me, because really, having such a crystal clear voice after being shot is just unrealistic. Blood is pumping out and your body is in shock so there tend to be spasms. Salonga's version only got me at the end where her voice was quieting, but Michele's moved me from the start, especially since her voice even cracked and it sounded like she was crying while singing. Really, the only one lacking emotion was John.
My only complaint is that they edited part of the song out... And no, Lea was not overacting... just because one is accepting one's death doesn't mean being shot doesn't hurt. This isn't a rock concert. She's acting out the part the way a true Broadway veteran does. If they ever do a film version of the musical, Lea should be cast as Eponine.
i love lea michelle, and she's a wonderful singer, but she's just being too dramatic here. it's supposed to be a sad and beautiful song, but she's supposed to be accepting her death, not fighting it.
This is totally out of Lea MIchele's league. Check out all her videos for this outing: While her acting is okay, her breathing is incorrect, she can't sustain notes, she struggles with the high notes, she emphasizes the wrong words, and her lisp is distracting! She might have been on Broadway, but her singing is NOT Broadway-caliber. This doesn't even measure up to her own other performances! And certainly does NOT merit any sort of comparison with the ANY of Lea Salonga's Eponine numbers.
This is a random costume comment, but I think the stage production should make Eponine's(sp) costume like The French miniseries of Les Miserable, the red dress... Anyone? Just my opinion :)

It's always sad to see an actor endow so much to another actor and have it denied... The guy didn't have any real reaction up until he hugged her. I'm pretty sure most people would at least do SOMETHING if they had a dying person in their arms. But good job Lea.
I loved Lea in this!!! completely, it was a little over the top I think too much gasp and chopped notes but I guess that helps make her death more believable, she didn't sung it as soft as Lea Salonga, but I liked it very much anyway, but, tbh he killed the whole emotion, I don't feel the desperation in his voice, he is supposed to be distressed and looks bored :( so so uncool.

I love this version...I like how the acting is being blended in. I love the oignals shows but usually Eponine just stands there, I like this version!

Lea's performance made it more emotional for me, because really, having such a crystal clear voice after being shot is just unrealistic. Blood is pumping out and your body is in shock so there tend to be spasms. Salonga's version only got me at the end where her voice was quieting, but Michele's moved me from the start, especially since her voice even cracked and it sounded like she was crying while singing. Really, the only one lacking emotion was John.

My only complaint is that they edited part of the song out... And no, Lea was not overacting... just because one is accepting one's death doesn't mean being shot doesn't hurt. This isn't a rock concert. She's acting out the part the way a true Broadway veteran does. If they ever do a film version of the musical, Lea should be cast as Eponine.

i love lea michelle, and she's a wonderful singer, but she's just being too dramatic here. it's supposed to be a sad and beautiful song, but she's supposed to be accepting her death, not fighting it.

This is totally out of Lea MIchele's league. Check out all her videos for this outing: While her acting is okay, her breathing is incorrect, she can't sustain notes, she struggles with the high notes, she emphasizes the wrong words, and her lisp is distracting! She might have been on Broadway, but her singing is NOT Broadway-caliber. This doesn't even measure up to her own other performances! And certainly does NOT merit any sort of comparison with the ANY of Lea Salonga's Eponine numbers.

This is a random costume comment, but I think the stage production should make Eponine's(sp) costume like The French miniseries of Les Miserable, the red dress... Anyone? Just my opinion :)

She is a great actress! I can actually believe she is supposed to be dying. There is so much emotion in her voice and in her face. Lea Michele is just amazing. I love her!

It's always sad to see an actor endow so much to another actor and have it denied... The guy didn't have any real reaction up until he hugged her. I'm pretty sure most people would at least do SOMETHING if they had a dying person in their arms. But good job Lea.

I loved Lea in this!!! completely, it was a little over the top I think too much gasp and chopped notes but I guess that helps make her death more believable, she didn't sung it as soft as Lea Salonga, but I liked it very much anyway, but, tbh he killed the whole emotion, I don't feel the desperation in his voice, he is supposed to be distressed and looks bored :( so so uncool.
