because to some extent this is how the instrument is SUPPOSED to sound (at least with classical music). It should sound somewhat like a stringed instrument if played with proper tonguing (NOT slap tonguing like 99.9% of the bari players I know use) and vibrato.

@AlainahB yes heres a tip, Breath with your embouchure, you need a lot of air support for this instrument, and invest in a good neck strap, find one that fits you well, this thing aint a feather =]

@AlainahB Lots and lots of air support. Do breathing exercises regularly.. If you're doing it for a more symphonic sound, play a harder reed, and for a jazzier sound softer. Try and get a neckstrap that is wide like a neotech but doesn't stretch. Stretchy straps give you back problems later in life when you're hold the bari up.. Body harnesses are nice but feel awkward to me.. Just go with what feels right. Make sure you tongue well or you'll sound like mud.
