@ImaFez his set up seems different. it looks like the tom racks arent attachted to the top part of the bass drum but like on the side so maybe if its different u could put it like that.
@100duduaraujo no him and Zach hill. Zach hill has higher coordination, speed, and alil more creativity. Thomas is like the same exact thing but a different unique and different style. he uses more of his arms and more drums. Zach uses maximum 5 drums on his kit and does even more than quadruplets with just his right foot. Bottom line.. both Zach and Pridgens are fucking AWESOME. Zach (80% foot) (Thomas 80% Hands) (Zach and Thomas 102% fucking awesome)
I love how when he's playing and he gets a lick wrong, he doesn't try and act like it didn't happen like teachers and performing art's colleges always tell you to. he try's it over and over again until he gets it right. its all a matter of improving and getting better at your art. i think thats something we can all learn from Mr Pridgen.
Dude can obviously play.. but I have to say I don't like his drum solos. There is no "story" no context... it is pretty much all the same dynamic and tempo and he doesn't really develop any ideas... just goes from lick to lick seemingly randomly.
He does have the speed/power thing down, though. But I look for something else in drummers I guess.

But music is a conversation and when you start by saying everything at once, the average listener gets lost. It's better to start the conversation with "hello, how are you"...and so and so forth. Learning to tell a story with your medium of expression is another skill entirely. I think this translates to all art forms.

Is a singer better because he can sing a thousand notes at super volume? Singing is all about tone, phrasing, control, *and* technique (sometimes). I like musicians who sing through their instruments.

All you need to do is listen to Christian Scott's "Rewind That". You will hear Thomas' playing is amazing. When you play along to these tracks you realize how in the pocket and direct his playing is. Thomas is a great musician...

your referring to michael shriever. the crazy part is, shriever was only 20 at the time, just blew everyone right out with his solo. i think michael shriever is more along the lines of mitch mitchell though. pridgens style and rudimentary stuff is just pure feeling the groove.
this is nothing to but drum fills. people often make a mistake this as "amazing" drumming. drums serve a higher purpose and that purpose is a song. this serves his ego. but then again this is a drum demo, so i understand why he is playing this way.

Just a bunch of man white guys trying to piss all over Pridgen. This guy rips. Just because he is not white and won best hard rock Grammy is no reason to hate. If this was Joey Jordinson or Jon Bonham or Terry Bozzio you all would be having orgasms. You don't see any brothers hatn' on Vinny Colaiuta's Jazz Bona Fides. We admit his skill, and ya'll should give props to Thomas. He does note even play rock anymore. You all player hated him out of the game.

your referring to michael shriever. the crazy part is, shriever was only 20 at the time, just blew everyone right out with his solo. i think michael shriever is more along the lines of mitch mitchell though. pridgens style and rudimentary stuff is just pure feeling the groove.

this is nothing to but drum fills. people often make a mistake this as "amazing" drumming. drums serve a higher purpose and that purpose is a song. this serves his ego. but then again this is a drum demo, so i understand why he is playing this way.
