  • mattel didnt buy out pleasant company

  • @iluvag4ever Pleasant Rowland sold her company, Pleasant Company, to Mattel. Therefore, they bought her out because she was ready to sell it for a very nice profit.

  • I remember this the other day. For some reason I remember these and I couldn't remember name, thank you for putting this up. You just restored a childhood memory.

  • This is really interesting, thanks for posting it! My Samantha is from the 90's, she is my original AG doll and still my favorite to this day. I also have Felicity and the 2011 GOTY Kanani.

  • I had Felicity, Kirten, Kitt, Josephina, a just like me, and Marisol's entire collection. Oh and a blond one in a russian outfit. But i always dreamed of having a samantha doll.

  • cool

  • Not being mean but The Squishy Head is creepin me out.

  • I have 4 dolls. A 2005 Kirsten, a 2007 Josephina, a 2009 Elizabeth, and a 2010 Felicity. Kirsten, the oldest, has a is like the 1990's Samantha, but I bought her in 2005. Why is this?

  • i have a falicaty doll that i got at a retail stor for 2 dollers after she was retierd!i guess they didt now what there selling

  • i have a kit that i got in 2002 and she is a pleasant company and i also have a julie that is pleasant company and she was purchased in 2009 but i feel that maybe she might have been made before mattel bought out pleasant company.

  • I have one from 2002 and shes diff then the ones now cuz last yr i got another one soooo ya

  • I have a Samantha doll from 2005. She was brand new, not from ebay. I bought her at the American Girl store. She has tan skin and looks just like the brand new one you showed us, but I don`t know why she`s Pleasant Company. I also have a Felicity doll from 2009, which I brought brand new from American Girl, but on the back of her neck, it says Pleasant Company too. I have know idea why! Please respond if anyone has an idea why.

  • please respond did the 2000 samantha doll have an american girl stamp on her back

  • I jave the plesent compney one with tan skin

  • The 2nd one is my favorite :) 90's

  • i think i prefer the first one..

  • I don't know how people even find out about American Girl dolls! I never heard of them until a few years ago when I got the Internet and saw people talking about them in doll groups. I raised sons and they never had them, and since these dolls aren't in regular stores like Target, K-Mart etc. I don't know how people know about them. I talk to a young woman online who is almost 30 and she never heard of them, either!

  • the hands look different too

  • Does any one know how long pleasty company last? till mattel came over.Like what was the last year American Girl was owned by pleasty company.

  • I am confused about an older doll that my daughters received from their cousin. She looks like Samantha but didn't come with her clothing. Her hair has been cut. She would have had to be from the 1990's, probably around 1996. She has the lighter hair like the 80's Samantha but a tan cloth body. Is it possible that she is Samantha or did they make the "My American Girl" dolls to look similar at that time?

  • I agree with one of the earlier comments regarding your boxes. Your "1986" box is probably a bit newer. The first boxes did not have bands; they were just the plain burgundy boxes secured, I believe, with white fabric ribbon. My Samantha came in a box like the oldest one you have in either 1989 or 1990 (I can't remember exactly, it was long time ago). My Felicity came in a similar burgundy box in 1991. Most of her accessories, purchased between 1991-1995, came in the white boxes.

  • wait the pleasent company dolls are still ag dolls right? I got a pleasent company Samantha at goodwill for only 14 dollars :)

  • @bacongirl56 yeah they are still AG dolls but they were made before Mattel took over American Girl... and :O you are lucky to get Samantha so cheap! lol

  • @bacongirl56 Yes,they are.:)

  • awwe I had a addy doll

  • The new samantha is prettier! :)

  • I'm 15 (born in 95) , so I have the newest Samantha. We bought the Pleasant Company Kirsten and Molly though! I love the Pleasant Company ones- they are so much more special in the way that they are made. Their hair is soooo soft compared to the dolls now.

  • @youngnani Also, Felicity and Addy of course didn't come out until 1991 and 1993 so even if they do have a body tag of 1986 they couldn't be from that year or the 80's at all.

  • @youngnani @youngnani Nope, she wouldn't be from the 80's I don't believe. Smart of you to question it. I have seen Felicity and have an Addy that has a body tag that says 1986. That Kirsten would probably be a very early 1990's when they used those tags. From my understanding, they were just using up the left over tags they had for clothes and put them on the body. The 80's dolls will have super flat strings and long curly eyelashes. Very long. Hope this helps.

  • @firefighterswife9111

    That's really helpful. Thanks!!

Also one more question? What is the difference between the 1986 and 1990's wigs? Do they look the same?

  • @youngnani The 1990's wig is very similar to the Mattel (after 2000). Not quite as dark but basically the same. At 3:12 I show the wig that is against the neck on the 1986 doll. You will not see the short hairs on the 90's wig or beyond. 1986 also has longer and lighter hair than 1990s. Thanks for watching.

  • I loved the book when I was little. I love the original 1986 books. I don't like the new books.

But I didn't know the dolls changed too! Now I'm double sure I like the original Samantha. I think the 1986 Samantha will remain the most genuine.

  • @youngnani I agree. I like the older books also. I am glad I have all 3 Samantha's but the oldest one is the pretties IMO.

  • @firefighterswife9111

Ther newest seems more modern. Which completely makes sense. But I think because Samanthas historical that the 1986 fits her better

    * * Thank you for sharing her! * *

  • @firefighterswife9111 arent the books the same story though?

  • @Pearcoconut Yes,But they change the cover of the books.

  • @firefighterswife9111 Why do you have 3 Samantha dolls?

  • I like the 1990's one the best but their all very pretty!

    ~Marissa

  • i got a 1990's doll i can tell cuz as i was watching i was using her and looking abd everything so yea! se her face isn't as easy to squeeze its a little harder sooo yea thanks this really helped!

  • @themshandkjbshow Good! I am glad this helped you to know more about your doll. I like to know as much as possible about my dolls.

  • I hope to very soon. I just have so many and a little one year old who will get into them so have a lot of them put up. I am about to put up a video of all the ones I have gotten recently so keep watching.

  • can you make a video of all your dolls

  • my samantha was pleasent company but her hair was ruined to i had to send her in to get a new head ...now i wishi just re wigged her..:(

  • hi thanks for the video, Do you have Kirsten made in 80's 90, 200..s so you coud show the difference, thanks...

  • You are welcome. I am glad you enjoyed it. I did have a 90s Kirsten and an AG but sold her on ebay. I can show my 80s though. I should have done that before I sold them. I sell a lot on ebay so that I can afford my collection. If I happen to get some, I will make a video for you.

  • Thanks Christian. The box didn't actually come with my PM doll. I can't remember how I got it. I started my collection almost 2 years ago by buying big lots and then after picking what I want, selling off the rest. It helps to pay for my collection. Any ideas on how I can tell how old she might be? I got her from a big lot I purchased and am keeping her for my daughter who is only 7 months;)

  • Beautiful dolls, and your white body box isin excellent condition. Your pre mattel is a little older than you think, the box is a 1990-1993 release. My first Samantha came just like that and I will never forget her box. Great video!
