  • Fascinating!!!

  • Why do you use an Amiga 1000? There is better Amiga-models. It has a neat design though.

  • Will the same mod work with A500 and A1200 ???

  • wouldn;t it have been easier just to use an AMIGA emulator on a PC?

  • @gwelsh123 Doesn't that completely miss the point?

At any rate, hell no. Most of the games expect 50Hz (pal) so you end up with awful choppy video on modern computer monitors.

  • I can't believe you added a second composite video out. The A1000 built-in composite is the best signal I've ever seen.

  • Where did you get the music in this video from

  • Does neobitz still sell this kit. There website looks liek it was last updated years and year ago. Would love to do this for mine

  • oh hells yeah, hes playing some interceptor!

  • what's themusic from?

  • 0:48 Сначала ножки откусывают кусачками а потом паяют!!!

  • @ghhhks Необязательно, в зависимости от ситуации :-)

    А вот паяльник страшный...

  • The A1000 had the coolest case.

  • Really nice job!

  • geek!!!!!!!!!!!

    xbox rules

  • Don't modern LCD TVs accept Component input? Which is essentially RGB?

  • The component inputs used in the USA are not RGB. It can be converted to RGB using some circuitry, though.

  • its amazing when you consider that the amiga had better picture quality, when there was no real way to see it... until now.

  • Actually, it was quite possible back then with an RGB monitor (Often bought with the Amiga). The S-video connection will be inferior to RGB quality, but at least it's better than the monochrome-only composite out!

  • Actually, the Amiga 1000 has color-composite built in. Only later models like the A500 used the monochrome composite.

  • @adric22

Actually they are hardwired to NTSC or PAL, so they may not give a color picture depending on the location and model.

I converted one to PAL color once way back, with a special component kit, and lots of tinkering.

I sold a A1000 with NTSC last year, and still have one with PAL left, witch gives a nice color picture here in sweden =)

  • Nice video :) He have a passion! Beer for him!

  • Great tutorial.

  • You Drilled an original Amiga 1000 !!! You Evil Bastard! :( You will burn in hell for that! :( .-.-.

  • And you did it in very unaccurate way!

  • It would be better to connect Amiga's video port to the SCART socket in LCD TV. This is the best way to get perfect picture quality.

  • We don't have SCART connectors in the USA.

  • I forgot it's european standard. O.o Get an european edition of LCD TV and Amiga RGB->SCART cable. You'll see the difference. ;) Joking. This S-video is not that bad though. Good job.

  • @adric22 lol seriously.. Did not know that. Scart is Way better :b Thats what i do when i want my Old Nes hooked up to my tv. I just place a jack stick in sound and one in video and than do the same on the scart, then i connect it Works Way better than the RF cables

  • Seems like a horrible idea and a awfull waste to cut holes in a rare original A1000.

Why not just use the existing RGB output directly to the tv?

Or make an external rgb to s-video dongle.

You could probably fit the components right in a d-sub connector that plugs into the A1000 RGB-port.

Id kill anyone who tried to drill my mint A1000 =)

  • adric22, is your name Richard?

  • Nope.. my name is David.

  • Wow, nice job! The image you get from your video circuit is really crisp, even better than what I get out of my VGA box.

  • Nice mod!

  • a lot crazy but it's a very good job, fantastic!!!! +++++++

  • Awesome mod... I unfortunately sold my Amiga 1000. But I still have my Amiga2000HD which needs resurrection.

Is this mod available for the Amiga 2000?

  • of course it's possible, but you need to check a2000 schematics to find correct signals. not very difficult.

  • I'd love to do some retro computer mods like this, but if I had an Amiga 1000 I don't think I'd have the heart to drill holes in it ;)

  • I used to own an Amiag 1000. I bought it when it first came out. I was in high school at the time. The graphics was amazing. But it froze up a lot and it would crash a lot. It was ahead of its time far as color and graphics went. But I should have gotten the Apple 2 instead. I probably would have gotten more use out of an Apple.

  • wow, i never thought i'd see someone regretting buying an amiga over an apple2.

I'm guessing you were in the usa, where the amiga never quite hit it's stride as a home system. Over in europe, the amiga was, for home users at least, pretty much the dominant platform for around a decade.

  • The Amiga blew any Apple computers out of the water. It was truly ahead of its' time. But mine had problems like I mentioned. Plus like you said, it did not sell well here in America and for that reason alone, it was hard finding support and software for it. I'm glad Amiga did well in Europe. Its a very nice computer for sure.

  • i'm gonna to figth with it too : )

i've already got an external tv tuner with s-video input, so i can connect it to my lcd or crt

  • Done this hack last week to my Amiga 1200. Works like a Charm with my LCD-TV. :) Greetings from Germany!

  • Cool.. you are the first I've heard of to do the s-video besides me.

  • Yeah I was in Trouble cause my new LCD-TV had Problems to show the Amiga Signal thru the Scart Connector Input. So I was searching for an Alternative beside Scan Doublers and came across your Video. :) Viva Amiga!

  • Yeah...I think this is a good thing when you are waiting for the bus or train. And there are Games that are playable with a gamepad but....well you know what I mean ;)

  • Argh...a fragile PSP Pad for Shooters like Turrican? No way. No Emulator beats the Gaming Experience on a real Amiga 1200 with some solid Joysticks like Competition Pro on a big TV or Monitor. Emulators feel different in many aspects. But I like the Emulation Scene. It's unbelievable what is possible nowerdays.

  • Because he is bored from all these lame computer game concepts of today and has a heart for vintage gaming.....like many other Headz out there. :)

  • Look hack! Shame those Neobitz are no longer available... 5 stars for the video/tutorial.

  • For future modifications; that back panel that you drilled in place, comes out really easily with some non-damaging flexing of the piece.

    fyi. :)

  • I'm def. gonna do this with my 1000,quite a difference in color quality.Very cool!

  • Awesome!!! I want! ^^

  • niiiiice

  • Most awesome Multimedia computer , can't believe this guy modded the original case. Blasphemy!!

  • @ RhodesGuy: Amigas where always modded since back in the days. Remember all these Memory Switches and Stuff like that. And I think he has done a good Job.

  • Just bought myself a new 'old' A500 to rip to mod. I'm excited about it since changing my mind on the topic

  • i own an a500 for 18 years (still working), but it w break my heart to drill a hole in the side of it! great tutorial btw.

  • look at the size of that soldering iron it huge!

  • S-vid is ok i guess i mean if u think long and hard about it, it is actually a form of component video a crappy form but never the less.... wait what am i sayin S-video rocks... Do another s-vid mod vid lol...

  • GREAT VIDEO!!! MAKE MORE!

  • RGB is still better than S-Vhs...

  • animes25: Didn't he mention playing games and reading some displayed stuff? One doesn't need all these MHz to make a computer usable. And old games feel better on real Amiga...

  • that was awesome man Im not tech savy myself nor Do I own an amiga but I like seeing people taking old stuff and making it work better. My hats off to you!

  • What no DVI output?

  • I lol'd

  • sehr sehr schoen gemacht, thank you!

  • Very nice :)

  • A very interesting video! You're a genius, man. Very nice!

  • Here's a better idea: Get a composite/RF modulator that plugs into the Amiga's monitor port. (If you have an Amiga 1200, you already have composite video output built-in.) Get a 3' gold-shielded composite video cable, and run the Amiga's composite video output into a "TV to PC converter". This box takes composite video in, scandoubles it, and outputs it as VGA. Then buy an LCD computer monitor, and voila! Amiga on LCD!

    Happy Amigaing!!!

  • Tonestronaut, your idea would actually not look as nice, even though it would be displayed on a VGA monitor. Mainly because the composite signal would be the source of the video converted to VGA, which looks terrible.

  • Hi Adric. I use the setup I describe with my A500, and while I admit the quality is poor, at least it's there. My old composite/RF modulator also has separate Chroma and Luma outputs, so if I can find (or make) the right cable, I can have S-video. My TV-to-PC converter has an S-video input. So that would be my way of doing what you're doing, but I don't need the extra quality that much.

  • This video is unintentionally funny. You sir, earn the geek award of 2007. :D

  • Perhaps someone could explain what is so funny?

  • It is just the combination of everything. The hack/mod theme, which is fringe in itself, and the selection of the odd chiptune running the background. Everything down to the meticulous way you solder, greatly entertained me. It all came perfectly together: when you proudly sat yourself down infront of your newly modded system. I'm sorry to say, I was rolling on the floor at that moment.

You sir, have a great talent for comedy. Unintentionally or not!

    Regards,

    A fan.

  • Your Video Editing 5/5

    Your Narrating 5/5

    Background music 4/5 :)

The only critique is that you were not indepth enough about the Neobitz board and what type of resistors and whatever else goes on that thing.

Otherwise, you were born to make tuts.

    Top stuff!

  • Nice job, David! Thanks for sharing. Love the music selection. ;)

  • I would like to make a converter much like this, but for HDTV signal to regular RGB connection. any idea how that could be done? soldering stuff and so on, is no big deal for me. I have been doing own electronics stuff myself sometimes as well

  • Wow soldering the Amiga. You have the guts!

  • Awesome video I learned a lot thank you!

  • cool, inspiring, great...

    That guy is a genius.

  • Bah, i had to make do with the 500, but then i upgraded (or downgraded!!) and got the Amstrad CPC 6128.

  • Top notch mod, top notch editing, top notch content. You are a credit to the Amiga YouTube community.

  • Really nice video - my hat off to adric22! I'd love to see more tutorials like these (along with some background music to go :)

  • wow. really really cool video.

  • Professional editing work! And AMIGA <3 Love them!

  • great video! now if I only would still have my A1000 :'( Playing Interceptor on a that cool monitor on the A1000 must be a hit :)

  • great work man

  • Good

  • Excellent video, easy to follow, very well done.

  • 5 Stars 4 sure. Thx.

  • Actually.. I spend most of my time on it playing Lemmings and a few other games.

  • well I like using it for the great games that are to offer, i am quite a fan of retro gaming and have quite a few old systems myself.

  • Cool video and Voiceover ... 5 Stars !

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Do you have a famous ancestor? If so, you might be interested in my latest video clip.

  • I'd like to know too.
