I'm from Sydney, Aus but have been living in philadelphia, USA for the past 11 and a half months. I will be back home where I belong in just over a month and cannot stop listening to this song. his line describes me to a T "I'm always travelling, I love being free, so i keep on leaving the sun and the see, but my heart lies waiting over the foam I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME" and this is where i break down in tears. Never realised how much I could love my country untill I wasn't there anymore :'D
@lollie87 aw gee wiz mate, i am down in San Diego and know exactly how you feel, you dont know how good we have it until you move abroad .. although its cool here too, doesnt compare to home and vegemite and the gold coast!
Why! we have not made this very special song by Peter Allen our national anthem is beyond me. I first heard this when living in the US. Yes it made me choke up with pride of our country that most that come here do adapt to the Australian way of life, it is what makes this land of ours so unique. Those who come here to try & enforce their way of live either need to listen to this song & adapt or otherwise Please go back to where you came from & let Australia be as the vast majority want it to b
PETER ALLEN......thank you for all your words...all your effort......love over flowing for all you held dear......kind hearted and joyful...we all need you now.
Nathan, what would shock anyone here who reads your tripe is that you "assumed" that my use of 'unfortunately' referred to black people etc. You must have a pretty big chip on your shoulder son, sorry about that. However, I can advise you that all my 9 children are part Aboriginal, in fact, all my wives and girlfriends since the late 80's have been fullblood Aboriginal. My 'unfortunately' simply referred to those here who are not Aussie's. Pull your finger (thumb) out Nathan and have a nice day.
Vegemite now funds Islam! The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils has pulled off the scam of the century! Kraft now pay funds to the AFIC for Halal certification. Monies gained from this certification go back into building Australian Islamic schools, new mosques and inevitably their Jihad! There is absolutely no justification for this certification as muslims could quite easily determine if Vegemite is Halal or Haram just by reading the ingredients. SHAME ON YOU VEGEMITE

I miss the days when I was young and could travel without worries. Every hostel I checked in, from London to Beijing, there was always an Aussie guy/ gal there!!
- Not from Aus but another city that never closes down - Hong Kong
you don't have to be an aussie but a citizen of the life .... the real one...were you have friends that you can be the real you .... and if they love you ... you grow no matter how old you are. i luv this man ... was lucky enough to watch him at radio c hall.
Weird how us Australian's know this song word for word, and 98% of Australian's don't even know that our national anthem "Advance Australia Fair" has 5 verses let alone remember the 2nd verse and i agree with MarkHandley1 "Advance Australia Fair" does suck :)...
This should be the national anthem. "I still call Australia home" beautifully captures the essence of what it is to be an Australian and why we love it so much.
I am a born an bred American, but I love this song and Peter Allen. The world lost a great entertainer. I've always wanted to travel to Australia, but to me the song to me speaks to anyone who is an expat and misses their native country. It truly is a great song not to mention a great country with great people. Met many Aussie's in my travels, they're wonderful people, open, friendly giving.
No one sings it better!! No marketing money back then...he was singing about his life and his travels and missing rural NSW. What a gem we had in Peter.................xxxxxx
As an immigrant who calls Australia home and is proud to do so, I find this the most touching, moving and heart warming song ever. I travel quite extensively and when I travel home on qantas and hear the childrens choir sing this song it is pretty difficult not to get a tear in your eye. I agree that this is undoubtedly the most heart warming Australian song ever, and should be the anthem
I love him, miss him very much. Whenever I'm overseas I love listening to this song, got me through the 5 years I spent at Oxford University. Australia is definitely my home
could be my theme song these days, thought by now I could listen to this song without tearing up a bit.... I was wrong. I miss you Mum, Sis, and the others who dont think of me anymore.

Brought tears to my eyes. I miss home 11 years away and I have been back home twice. Thank you for the original. I grew up just outside of Tenterfield NSW so this song means a lot to me. Thank you..
Thank You so much for uploading the original song by Peter... this sure put a tear in my eyes, I haven't been home for 14 years now, my family are still there in Brissie... Thank You again for sharing this beautiful song....
@pittycross Maybe not a lump in our throats, but we can still appreciate this. I'm quite impressed at how much soul goes into this song. Heck, "And the band played waltzing matilda" brings tears to my eyes and I have nothing to relate to with the singer.
@pittycross you forget that some have never left the country and so don't know what it's like to be that far from their home. Not me though, i know full well, spending a few years away sucks.
@pittycross I'm not an Aussie but I just love this song, and Australia. My two brothers died there and they loved her more than they ever did Scotland.
I will visit Australia soon as I think that this is one of the worlds most beautiful country's and its people are loved and respected wherever they go, and with song and its lyrics so moving for ones country they are both well matched.
I'm not an Aussie, but I get a lump in my throat whenever I hear this song. Peter Allen sings this song with such a feeling of passion, emotion and patriotism that, no matter where you are from, you will be touched and affected.
Yes,I agree with you. I am not an Australian, although I live here 29 years, I feel still Dutch, but when ever I here this song it gives me goosebumps and I get a tear in my eye. And when I am in holland visiting family and friends, I feel that Australia is my home. I'm torn between 2 countries!
@pittycross Was just about to give you thumbs up for the comment, when I read your second line. Seems to me your reference to those "unfortunates" are non-whites, etc. Why this comment got 73 thumbs shocks me. Anyone can be patriotic to their country, and naturally are. It's how you view the world outside your little bubble that matters.
HAPPY AUSSIE DAY 2012 :)
