There were several of this kind of Beat 'Em Up coin-ops around the time of this one, like Crime Fighters, or the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game, to name two others. But THIS one was DEFINATLY the very best of all of those! hehehehe

2. It's called setting Player 2's controls to be the same as Player 1's.

Pretty simple idea, really: Make it to the end of each level, beating up the bad guys between you and the end, then at the end, beat up the level's end-boss. Then you get to proceed to the next level.

Eventually you reach the end and do battle with a mad-bombing Smithers and the Robo-Mr. Burns. Smithers and some cronies had kidnapped Maggie, who's being held by the maniacal Mr. Burns. So you rescure her hehehehe

So Punch and Kick your way through all those bad guys. If you see any of various objects lying around (like a flower pot, trash can, etc.), you can pick it up with the Punch button. Press it again to thow it at a bad guy. Also you can press Punch and Kick at the same time to do a harder jumping attack.

If playing with a friend (or whomever, and not cheating) you can "join" with them to mutually do a special double-attack, like you saw Homer & Marge rolling over the bad guys above. Try combining different combinations of the four characters to see what happens hehehe

I remember beating this game, from start to finish, all in one sitting at the local arcade/bowling alley with three of my friends. All during that final battle, as the quarters were just being vacuumed out of my pockets, I kept thinking, "How much more can that tank lose before it explodes?!"

What was funny was one of my friends ran out of money during the Burns battle. Then some other kid who had been watching us for a while asked if he could join, and we said yes 'cause we needed more battle fodder. Then we wound up beating the game a few minutes later. So, for the cost of, like, $1, this kid was able to brag to his friends that he had beaten the Simpsons arcade game.

@tiberianfiend Actually, It took a lot of quarters to beat this game, skill just reduced the number of quarters required. Aside from using that team attack, there's no way to hit a boss without getting hurt, and bosses have MUCH more health than you do.

Very cool. Obviously an emulator, which I am going to have to get now. Smithers had gray hair cause, well, Smithers had gray hair, and Burns is evil cause Burns is evil. Mind you this game is from like 1991, and the only thing Burns had done in the series at this point was run over Bart, and create Blinkey.

This game, the two TMNT titles, and X-men were THE BOMB back in early 90's arcade golden days... nothing cooler than getting a group of your friends together to slam in the quarters around one of these machines (which always had HUGE screens and blasting speakers). even after Street Fighter II (and its many spinoffs and competitors) took over, it was still a treat to find one of these and blow a few minutes on it
