  • @32rodrick--

Wrong! The announcer for "Family Feud" between 1976-1985 was another long-time game show announcer named Gene Wood, who himself died in 2002 of lung cancer.

  • you wouldn't believe this, but i have on my hard drive a check of a program he anounced for local radio station WBT-AM 1110 in Charlotte, North Carolina. With his signature ending in tact!

  • Johnny Olson was best known as the announcer for "The Jackie Gleason Show", "The Color Honeymooners", "What's My Line?", "Match Game", "Tattletales", "Body Language" and many other game shows over the years.

  • I was 7 years old when it was aired, but I've never saw it since I was at school.

  • Aside from Holly, Johnny was the reason to tune in every day.

  • Best known as the Announcer of the game show "FAMILY FEUD" (1976-1985)

  • @32rodrick

Gene Wood was the announcer on Family Feud.

  • @32rodrick

and of course "Now You See It" (1974-75) too

  • @32rodrick Gene Wood was the announcer for the series, but Johnny Olson did announce the 1975 pilot.

  • We'll never forget ya, Johnny!!!

  • wow Johnny olsen i am getting chills seeing that

  • I was 13 years old and home from school the day this episode aired. Not sure if I was sick or if we had the day off, but I still remember seeing it and decided to look and see if someone had uploaded it on YouTube and voila! I don't think there is anything that one cannot find on YouTube!

  • Johnny Olson RIP

  • I was at school when this tribute first aired. My Mom told me about it, but there's something about seeing it myself for the first time, which I did tonight.

    He is still missed.

  • I remember seeing this episode.

  • @vincevega0 I'm 38

  • @vincevega0 I figured it existed. I never saw it until now.

  • It was almost creepy. To me, Rod Roddy sounded SO much like Johnny Olsen! Does anyone else think so, too?

  • @IncHulkLover Not at all. Completely different sound and styles.

  • Bob Barker: Since taping this program, we've lost our good friend, Johnny Olson. You will continue to see and hear Johnny on the many programs he's already taped.

He was dearly loved by all of us, and he'll be sorely missed.

  • I saw this episode.

  • And Now Moment at 0:44 for Johnny Olson!

  • I first remember watching the Price is Right at age 2-3. or 1990-91. 5 years after Johnny's death.

  • @Hiei2k7 -- I remember watching the episode that spoke of Johnny's death (I'm 37 as of this writing.) Quite sad.

  • Too bad I was too young to remember this from when it originally aired...I was just short of 5 years old and didn't pay much attention to TPIR until I was 10. Thank goodness for YouTube.

  • @andrewps84 Same here.

  • I saw this when it aired in October of '85. Bob suddenly appearing at the end of the credit roll really got my attention. I had not heard any report of Johnny's death and, in the split second after "we've lost..." I thought Bob was going to announce the death of one of the models! Johnny was always so full of life and vitality; it really came as quite a shock. I agree with the posters who have said this really wasn't much and am surprised in seeing it again just how brief it was.

  • yubertuber1--

Maybe, that's all that needed to be said to sum up the situation, because other than that, saying anything else would have been too much and would have caused Bob to be overcome with so much emotion that he hadn't encountered since the death of his wife Dorothy Jo a little less than five years earlier.

  • Johnny Olson got just 21 seconds? After all his years of work for Goodson Todman.... Shame!

  • @njn3 Thats a shame!!!!

  • @njn3 At least it was better than Barker's lame 18 second tribute to Rod Roddy - at least Johnny's picture was in color!

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan Oh my god. Who. The hell. Cares?

  • @gshowguy Well maybe the fans of Rod Roddy do, as his colorful suits were his trademark! Besides, Barker isn't known for his compassion after all!

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan I guess they're expendable.. When one passes on... Ok, who's next? Not a way to run a production!

  • @njn3 Now you know why Barker had so many lawsuits against him, as he didn't know how to RUN a production - he knew how to RUIN it instead! All of the hate mail he got after firing model Holly Hallstrom proves that!

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan Sorry man! I disagree. If I'm going to believe any of your stuff, I am going to literally need a letter from God!

  • @RPSteve As "Maude" used to say, "God'll get you for that one!" All you have to do is look online for the court case Barker vs. Hallstrom, which has been online now for over 15 years!

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan Do not encourage RPSteve to delve into the lawsuits. He does not want to hear that his idol was a bast*rd and that people who work on Price are so glad he is gone, or the ruthless things Barker did and the people he fired, good people who deserved better, because they refused to lie for him in his lawsuits, or have sex with him, etc. RPSteve DOES NOT WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH! He has told you so.

  • @MTWyldhk ;-)

  • @RPSteve So what you're saying is that you will never believe anything about Barker that you don't like, even if it's true. Clearly you do not know Barker, have never worked on TPIR, are not connected to anyone who does work there, and cannot tolerate someone who is connected to the show because they can't stand Barker. Then you are no different than those of us who do work there and tell the other side of the story. Except that you have your opinions, and we have facts.

  • That's it!? That's all he said in rememberance of the greatest anouncer voice in television history??? Very lame. What a shame. Johnny...YOU WERE THE GREATEST.

  • @yubertuber1 I agree, there should have been some special about it and more of a tribute...definitely a living legend.

  • Thank you for posting this, I had only seen the announcement of Mark Goodson and Rod Roddy.

  • @andrewps84 Same here, and I also saw the end tag of Frank Wayne's death on another site.

  • I was Born 3 months before Olson Died.

  • 75? Wow. That's sort of young still. I though he was older.

  • I so have been waiting to see this. Thank you. :-) Johnny was a great announcer. And at least we'll have YouTube and GSN to remember him by.

  • did she win both showcases?

  • @Wheeloffortunefan999 no she didn't, she won a truck playing 3 Strikes, then won a showcase that was over $20K

  • John Leonard Olson...a legend.

  • @AarHan3 One of the broadcast industry's standard-bearers, for sure. I had the honor of meeting him when I was a teenager.

  • R.I.P. Johnny Olson 1910-1985, We all miss you!

  • Any idea what the air date was? Also, did Tom Kennedy mention Johnny's passing on either the set of Body Language or his nightime TPIR version?

  • @tvtimetravel This aired around October 15, 1985, as there were at least two episodes that week that contained this end tag about Johnny Olson's death. As far as I know, Tom Kennedy never mentioned Johnny's death, but when you see episodes with Tom Kennedy hosting that have Johnny Olson do the announcing during the show but have either Gene Wood or Rod Roddy doing the consolation prize plugs at the end, you can tell that they aired after Johnny passed.

  • Whenever I c these kinds of tributes it always leads me on the brink of tears.

  • Thanks So Very Much For This! I Have Never Seen This Before

  • @faghsdfaskf Nor I, as I wasn't born until 1986.

  • The CHarlie O tribute on WOF the other day was better, or at least seemed to be more heartfelt, than this one was. Both announcers of course were pretty much universally liked.
