@BlondeSkrawberry Dude, exactly. I've always been saying that he's the guy that young girls would want to meet and have innocent cutsie fantasies about.
agreed that he was quite handsome. dunno why he felt the need to hide behind makeup & a stache. i think he could've maybe tried to delve into romance/drama movies to try & be on both sides... oh well.
he invented the tramp basically to mask his apparent youth at the time of joining the comedy troup--they didn't want a "kid" on board, so Charlie donned the 'stauche and makeup and threw the bit together. He tried to break off at intervels later in his careeer,in more serious dramatic angles--but it was never well received even in concept. But god damn he is good lookin. :>~
since that comment, i've read Chaplin's auto-bio. i know he tried to get into other genres and even he admitted "it wasn't well recieved".. technically it's not until current times that almost *all* his movies have been well recieved, even "Monseiur Verdeaux", which was banned in a lot of places at the time for content & insinuated "themes". i know he did his makeup to look like "an old drunkard", so though he didn't explain it that way, it does look he tried to age himself to be accepted
This is 1926. Chaplin is 37 years old here. "The Gold Rush" came out in 1925. The Dance of the Dinner Rolls is the most popular scene in that movie. They would actually stop the film and rewind it in some movie theater's just so people could see that particular scene twice. This was him doing it for guest at a dinner party.

The best. It's great that a youtube allows younger people to discover Chaplin and Keaton.
