  • at the peak , probably the greatest band ever , yes im including led zep

  • @downincognito72 For sure. Just an unstoppable creative force.

  • The fact that these guys came up in the late 70's when people were listening to disco says alot. Ask anybody from that era what it was like when they first heard VH on the Radio, backyard party (spiccoli) or toured with them ( journey, mountain, sabbath, aerosmith) they will all say that these guys were other wordly. Everyone will say that these guys were as good as it gets. End of story.

  • hA ha i was there and you weren't

  • 9 Wham! fans.

  • Diamond Lee Roth = the only reason Van Halen was FUN

  • worlds greatist guitarist and the camera is on that fag 90% of the time.damn shame

  • @Pat9201 i know what your're saying, i also prefer to see the musician's playing guitar since i play guitar, but david lee roth fucking rocks, he's had more pussy than you could ever dream about so you better watch who you call a fag.

  • @ReDRuM868 im sorry but during the last tour it was clear that dave is at the very least bi sexual.

  • RIGHT,Pat9201 !!!

  • FULL THROTTLE DAVE...

  • DLR was already nearly 30 when this was shot...always thought he was younger.

  • it's all about the music...and this is best as it gets...

  • Gay Los Angeles Metal....AKA: GLAM!

  • awful... awful version. roth ruins it once again.....

  • only american's rock like this. rocknroll is abt fuck-you and this, is that.

  • The effect is most definately a flanger and you can buy the EVH model with that sound built right in.

  • Micheal Anthony was a beast. His harmony vocals WAS the VH sound. They were always spot on, on every show.

  • @DUDEplayer69 You are so right about that. Michael Anthony's vocals were as much a part of the VH sound as EVH's amazing playing.

  • @DUDEplayer69 - Gotta agree. (Side note...I'm still looking for the "Unchained" video where Michael does the cool fist-pump motion across the strings.)

  • DLR BLOWS.

  • Ur kind of right altraining, but even bad and sloppy it"s still good. Also noticed how Roth sort of pulled the mic away from Mikey because Roth couldnt keep up with the vocal. Lol

  • FANTASTIC!

  • I love VH but if u saw them live u had to catch them on a good night. Low drugs and Alc. They sound like shit here so I'm guessing there were drinks and drugs on the plane on the way in.

  • wow...that there is thee real deal...i saw that tour...one of the top 3 concerts i ever witnessed :)

  • The effect is probably a phase 90 by MXR,I think they recorded the song with a

flanger by (ADA ??) not shure. If you want that sound/effect look into phases or flangers. Good luck :)

  • whats that effect around 2:16 sounds like a talk box or something

  • God this brings back some great memories! I was at this show....the old Cap Center is now GONE forever. I was 18 years old & my buddy & I skipped school & spent the night in his car to wait in line for tickets. We bought 10 tickets total & froze our asses off during the process. What a great fucking show they always put on! It was my 1st VH concert & have seen them many times since then. Thank you for posting this.

  • Holy Smokes!!! How much blow did they do before this song? David looks possessed!! And could they have played it any faster? Man, blow and booze are a potent combo! God love em' they still rocked harder than anyone around then. A musical runaway train!

  • robert plant or steven tyler is the greatest front man and eddie is van halen david jus acts like a faggot on stage

  • @trdacy: Junior, you're only 18 and based on your opinion I'm shocked you don't think Tyler is gay. It was the 80's. Dave never considered himself a great singer. He's more of a showman.

  • The good ole days of cocaine and Jack Daniels! lol

  • I can't get over how great this is. It's even better than I remember. David Lee Roth is the coolest here. Sammy looks like a clown compared to Roth.

  • he wasn't fired...he quit! Get your facts straight!

  • Why'd they get rid of Michael Anthony?

  • He didn't get kicked, he left for a solo career, but he came back in the end.

  • AEROSMITH's front man was right up there too.

  • Yep, I saw them in 1982, and yes... without Diamond Dave, VH sucked.

  • david lee roth as stage rock performer is the best over-all the man kicks and jumps high and has natural moves with van halen playin live , covers every corners on stage

  • Ready, coke and gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  • you know..dave reminds me of a drag queen.

  • 6 turds in the punch bowl

  • wooooo that suit is oooooo

    can you here me '

    wave your hands

i forgot the fucking words man \

the dow is down today people

    that suit is you

  • I don't think the real artists you see on this video - including Hagar - would bother to engage in degrading other artists...especially today.

Most of these guys have long battled drugs and alcohol problems, and tearing each other down is low on their list of things to do. Especially now...Eddie's looking back on how fortunate he was that Clapton and Paige had paved the way, not to mention all the technological breakthroughs that made Eddie's incredible innovations possible.

  • ROTH FOR PRESIDENT ! WHAT A DUDE !

  • Long Live Van Halen and Diamond Dave.... BUT.... IMO Mick Jagger is the BEST frontman ever!

Diamond Dave is 2nd or 3rd with Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury

  • Wow... they're flying through this...

  • I was there.

  • New Album in July- $14

Concert ticket beginning in September- $120

    VAN HALEN- PRICELESS!!!!!!!

    Happy Birthday Fingers!

  • Never was a VanHagar fan. Sammy always seemed like a dorkier version of Jimmy Buffet to me. And although Diamond Dave may have been an arrogant jackass, there's no denying that he was arguably the best frontman of all time, and that Van Halen was only a mediocre band without him.

  • Damn, Alex is playing in hyper speed. Ed started out perfect and Alex is a runaway freight train. Fastest version of this song I have ever heard....lol

  • Was there!! Awesome!!! Met them afterwards..........Eddie too busy to give autograph, a fukin bummer!! Alex was more down to earth and talked to us!! Still love them tho...

  • Yes david is flying on cocaine here he fucked up the lyrics but hes the best, simple..sammy is a fat alki bloated tanned jack off. Hail Lee!

  • DAMN, Diamond Dave messed up the heck out of that song! LEGEND!

  • They lost a lot of the band when Diamond Dave left. Wish they would have kept him. He had the balls. I don't know. They lost a lot of edge when he left.

  • I think the DLR vs Sammy debate is old and boring really. As a VH fan, I think both era's of the band produced some of the best rock songs ever. Some people like to talk about the clothes they wore.....some people hated Sammy wearing yellow "pajamas" but prefered to see Roth's ass cheeks in his chapless pants. I guess some of us are focused on the music and not guys asses or penis sizes.

  • Love Dave, love Ed and all the antics that went with them-but can you imagine the band without Mike? I know, they have Wolf now. But no MA, no fame for VH. I mean that.

  • @NYVoice Eddie and Alex need to pull the sticks out of their asses and make up with Mike. Who cares if hes buddies with Sammy Hagar? They are way too sensitive. I used to think it was DLR making all the problems but I read the book and it seems that the Van Halen brothers are tough nuts to crack. I agree NYVoice! Happy Holidays to you!

  • The same joy to you Boo. Ya know, back in 81 (?) Ed gave an interview to Guitar Player about-well, everything. He didn't exactly rave about Mike. It was "I can never hear his bass" to "He doesn't write a f**kin' thing", all that. Maybe so to a certain degree. But you can never argue that MA brought a dynamic to the group that caught the ears of many rock fans, not just Van Halen fans.He was the final solution as to whether the band was going places as far as i'm concerned. Take care.

  • @1251wire --- You nailed it right on the head.......back in the glory days of the Mighty Halen......chicks' panties were flying off faster than fuck when Sir Diamond Lee was around

  • im a guitar player, so obviously i "wanna be" Eddie,

but i'll tell ya man, u ain't got to know too much of anything, to know that if u wanted to be a god-like man on this earth, DLR at this era is it dude! women dreamed to be made by this dude, he needs to a write a freaking book with all the pictures of chicks man.

  • Ed's live tone is amazing! It's not oversaturated distortion crap like today... you can actually HEAR the guitar. A driven up but clean sound at 120 decibels is something to behold.

  • 1982-1983 was by far THE best period in history to see live Rock/Metal!

  • no shit man they had some rocket fuel that night!!

  • Maybe it's just me, but it seems like you hear Eddie and michaels voices more than dave's. Other than that, great live version!

  • @GHplayer2296 It's a crappy mix at best. The loudest thing in the mix is Alex's highhats. Probably why they never released this.

  • @lockdownrocks ALL his cymbals are too loud in the mix. And he hardly ever stops bashing the sumbitches.

  • Holy shit, talk about a band firing on all cylinders! They were so great back then. I have watched a number of live performances of this song on you tube and this is one of the best...awesome!

  • I was at this concert at the Captial Centre which no longer exists.

    What a show

  • A dance beat that requires a jock strap !!!

  • One of my favorite Van Halen songs!

    Yours too I guess.

  • One of their greatest but they butchered this puppy. Talk to about the wasted years. Roth is phoning it in.

You can almost see the blow around his nose and mouth.

  • One of their greatest but they butchered this puppy. Talk to about the wastest years. Roth is phoning it in.

You can almost see the blow around his nose and mouth.

  • Wow i was at this concert... Senior in high School then. ahah

  • Ed def. deserved the Guitar Player of the Year award all those years in a row, but I'm surprised Randy Rhoads wasn't voted a few of those years in between. People went gaga for him, but I still like Edward better and think he was better. He was more raw and pure a player.

  • Best Band Ever, PERIOD

  • @thatJCguy YOU GOT THAT SHIT RIGHT!!!!!

    VAN HALEN ROCKS!!!!

  • Respond to this video... THIS IS REAL ROCK

I saw Van Halen live,'78;'79;'80 &'81 Full Throttle Kick Ass Performances

    BEST TIMES OF OUR LIVES

  • @DoctorBob409 I concur my friend.......I've seen them many times as well back in those days & have to say they were the best performances I have ever seen. Remember Monsters of Rock? Whoa!

  • DONT MAKE ME CRY!!!!...I think that almost every day and sometimes even about 83' & 84' because of where my life was at then. I was born in 66' so U do the math..But I feel ya about THAT year! Saw them up to 5150 and couldnt take them with out Dave after that.Saw them mostly in St. Louis but later on in Vegas w Sammy. This song was a regular on K-SHE 95 and KWK in St. Louis back then...FUCK!!!...What happened?

  • HELL YEA! Non stop talker, what a rocker, blue eyed murder, in a size 5 dress

  • Words are overrated

  • C'mon Dave, sing the words!!!!

  • I personnally don't like this version of Unchained, it isn't the Unchained that I know, this one sounds too dirty. Such an awesome when you see how differents versions there are. They kinda "cover" them selves x)

  • I was at this very concert at the Capital Center in 1982, very cool this is on here!

  • @DavidVanLanding Did you happen to see Wes Unseld?

  • @DavidVanLanding Me too. My first concert.

  • Nailed it!

  • hilarious, Dave is out of his mind on the powder! Fun performance but Dave is doing more prancing than singing.

  • This was an awesome show. I was 19 when I went to this one and my buddy had sky suite tickets so it really couldn't get much better.

  • best live band ever. who cares about the words anyway?

  • It's obvious Dave and Eddie were coked out of their fucking minds during this show.........but they could still wipe the floor with any other rock band........they had SWAGGER APLENTY

  • @Hunkola Hey..so was I..lol...

  • @Hunkola It's also obvious that Dave is a flaming homosexual.

  • @Hunkola BS. I'm an old coke head (past), and see no signs of cocaine intoxication here on ed's part or dave's.

  • LOL! All Dave does is mumble a few words and shriek every 20 seconds. Still an awesome show no doubt!!! Love all these Cap Center vids.

  • mad fist pump in beginning and in :59 ahahah

  • That's a straight-cranked Marshall EL34/6CA7 crispy crunch. Nothing can beat that.

  • i was lost before my guitar teacher showed me Van Halen

  • watching this after watching them on the video of sydney 1998 (seriously, DON'T WATCH IT) watching this.....it's seriously it's like watching the godfather 3, then 1

  • Van Halen died when the came out with 84.....it was a sad day

  • @MrSistermaryelephant Not tryin to bash you or anything but are you insane! Panama, I'll wait, Hot for Teacher?

  • Stay the same! I like the mix pushing Michael Anthony's harmonies too. His voice sounded great that night. Eddie was unconscious he was so good.

  • i was at this show lol

  • VH at their alltime best. Still playing inspired shows with Dave and Eddie absolutely soaring. Nothing better.

  • This was VH at their alltime best. Maybe it's because of the award they received that night but they were totally inspired that night. Wish I'd been there.

  • LONG LIVE THE 80s HEAVY

  • Listen up.........getting fed up with all you homos in here dissin' Dave........he was simply the GREATEST ROCK FRONTMAN OF ALL TIME........so you better respect his skills..........he fucking owned that Halen stage........without him, VH is NOTHING.

  • Very true. Dave is what keep their shows rolling...Sure Sammy is is good but lets face it- David Lee Roth knew how to work a crowd, he was fast on the one liners and didn't allow for dead air !

  • Diamond Lee has a lot of attitude and swagger coursing through his veins........but he was also funny as hell.........he was simply born to be on a stage and entertaining.

Sammy is just a fat bozo who wears yellow pajamas onstage and sells tequila........stupid and weird.

  • and screams about his Mexico retreat at every chance...

  • @erikinhawaii --

LOL.......Hagar was such a lame fag........Dave would talk about nailing pussy and chugging Jack Daniels onstage.........Sam talked about his stupid bar !!

DAVE OR THE GRAVE........THAT'S THE ONLY HALEN WE WANT.

  • @Hunkola LOL , I Dave was all about getting skirt- I hear ya ...

  • @Hunkola Van Halen= EVH jammin the hell out of the guitar & becoming the god that he is. DLR running around screaming because he can't sing to save his life. Watch the live videos. Yes, he can jump around and has swagger but sing? No.

Van Hagar= When Sammy joined the music came together as music not just a bunch of parts. There is actual structure to the music. He knew how to write music.

Stupid & weird? Have U ever seen a DLR interview? The guy isn't even on the same planet as the rest of us.

  • @jagswinjagswin --- You sound awfully stupid, weirdo.......Van Hagar wrote a bunch of shitty songs that are now forgotten.......Sammy wrote retarded lyrics like --- "only time will tell if we stand the test of time"........even a 3rd-grader writes smarter lyrics than that.......but Roth-era VH was the shizzy.......LOTS of attitude, swagger, and showmanship in that band......Dave & Eddie are the two greatest rockers who ever lived.......they made each other legendary

  • nope...wrong!!...freddy mercury was the greatest rock front man of all time ....sorry!

  • @MrRocknbob ---- Hmmm.....I dont recall Freddie Mercury launching 10-foot split jumps off the drum riser while smiling......or telling hilarious jokes while chugging Jack Daniels onstage......I love Freddie.....but he was no Diamond Lee Roth --- the GREATEST FRONTMAN EVER

  • @Hunkola SoSo true Diamond Dave is the absolute best FMofAllTime

  • @Hunkola who's ass we gotta kick!

  • @Hunkola Agree 100% my brutha. One of if not THEEE best front man in Rock N Roll History. Fuck all the dissers and haters.

  • I'm pretty sure Eddie could get up on stage by himself and still destroy

p.s if he was the greatest front man of all time why did he get kicked from V.H?

I know its your opinion but I don't think he is the greatest frontman of all time (pretty good though)

  • @lilnaters49 I think Dave was a pretty damn great front man too...but as for Eddie getting up onstage by himself and kicking everyone's ass.....remember the VH Gary Cherone tour? Neither does anyone else.....

  • @Hunkola lol you right, dont diss dave

  • Dave you drunken, coked up bastard! You were a true rockstar, bright and buring fast. What fun you must've had, the crowd seemed to like it too. Rock fuckin on man!

  • If you live around this area (DC Metro area) and grew up listening to VH back in the 70's and 80s, you'll know why this concert is funny to see now, looking bad.

The fact that they sold out in LARGO, MD ! There are no white kids left in that area.

  • I don't get it. So what - all of Washington is black. My girlfriend, now my wife, and I drove down from NE MD to see the show, it was the closest they were playing. WHAT SUCKED was I stood out in freezing temps to buy tickets, they sold out the show and then added a date BEFORE that show the pricks. Anyway, they destroyed the Capital Centre, want proof? Go there now, there ain't one! WOOHOO! I never thought I would see this ever again, awesome dude!

  • @ScottMacFie --

Yes, I also find it funny VH once packed an arena in Largo........that place is now Negro Central........LOL.

  • SING THE SONG :D

  • This song is racing away, I prefer the slower version.

  • no they open with romeo delight if i can remember

I was at the Toronto show 3 weeks after and it rocked. It was loud it was true Van Halen, I did not go to this reunion . No dissing the kid but Micheal Anthony is a monster on the bass, if you seen Van Halen with Micheal Anthony you will understand. The kid is good but all he is doing is trying to copy Micheal Anthony give him a few more years to develop his own style, then he will be better.

  • bad ass

  • hey forktuna, stfu!

  • What a song to open with.

  • I went to the Diver Down tour this song blew me away the show was so fucken loud my ears rang for a good week

The good old days of Rock not these little shits today

  • The greatest band ever (roth era).ONLY !

  • Agreed, bosox...Van Fagar never did it for me.

  • well said !

  • van fagar, thats classic!! LMAO!! Nothing beats THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN, yes Van Halen were "MIGHTY VAN HALEN" with Diamond Dave, the greatest frontman with the greatest guitarist, enuff said!!

  • Agreed, Champane97 lol

  • I utterly agree with yo!!!

  • None stop talker, Betty Crocker! LOL

What great memories of the old Cap Centre. I was there-17 years old. Those were the days!

  • thankYAOO! AWeWAAAGHHHH!

    Cocain is a serious drug!

  • So is rock and roll.

  • how did a video get tuned so high? At first I thought it was an audio recording with a half dead battery. But Jeez, this ain't that great.

  • they play most songs faster in concert. LISTEN to M ANTHONY voice...

  • Mike's voice is what put VH in a higher class of metal genius. Bass & vocals from MA spelled gold. A great sound.

  • one of my favorite tracks from VH

  • Why did it ever have to stop being 1982.

    =/

  • As that you, Uncle Rico? =P

  • c'mere and sit on this metal plate i plugged into the wall.

  • @Atheistprimate - Agreed Bro!

  • @Atheistprimate amen brother!!! Cheers

  • @Atheistprimate mainly because you could no longer obtain 100% pure colombian cocaine.

  • @Atheistprimate I couldnt agree with you more!! What happened to the greatest decade?

  • @Atheistprimate you might be forgetting that it wasn't all like this. in fact,i'd put it to you that much of it wasn't as real. synthetic ruled those year's,i'm afraid.

  • Drunk Uncle Dave

  • Have you seen the entire concert? Obviously not. There's no way Dave could have performed the way he did if he was wasted.

  • I was at that concert in Largo. He was drunk off his ass!

  • I've got the entire boot for this concert. If you watch it, he's not wasted. The US Festival I agree was horrific. There were more shows at Largo but this one he's on rhythm the entire concert. He's not slurring anywhere when talking to the audience either.

  • They were ALL drunk, dude.

  • The 81 verion pisses all over this.....Sorry ed sounds like he's playing a single coil strat.

  • so true

  • So great to see these guys when they were at their best--I saw this tour, and they were great.Eddie was at the top of his game on Fair warning It depresses me to see him be so out of it now.

  • Comment removed

  • Does any one have the dvd or vhs of this show or the fair warning oakland show - willing to purchase from u if u do! i would love to add these to my collection! u can email me at rockinmonk@yahoo, thanks!

  • i believe there is a pic of dave doing this on the album sleeve of diver down, i think...

  • is it just me or is the tempo a bit quicker than the studio version and the oakland live version?

  • its ALOT faster in this video
