To me there is nothing like driving the old Audi's; my 1987 Coupe GT, though not a quattro, was a far better drive than my wife's 2009 A4. Her car is amazingly nice, but it just doesn't have that connection of driver/car/road. Maybe an RS4 would? How lucky of you for the chance of driving the Sport!

Thanks Chris, I got to drive one of these when I worked at a Porsche dealer in the mid 80's, the dealership owner was a collector of rally cars, I did not get to drive the Peugeot but he let me drive the Audi all the time. It was super fast and I still dream of owning one even though I have a 911. Now I can show others what I have been talking about all these years!

@SoapyBoomBoom I don't know exactly... maybe because car companies actually invested something into rally. Back then it was highly respected sport, thousands of people watched it. And when Audi launched the Quattro model, it was a world phenomen. And the Lancia Delta, still today considered one of the best cars. And Ford with all the models. Rally back then had the spirit and ''it''. Now it's just boring small 1.6 turbo cars, how fun can those be? Nothing compared to these 700 HP machines.

great post, one genuine rs200 did come with a sierra cossie engine fitted. It was the group S proto-type. It also had a space framed chassis unlike the rest of the prodution run.

Description of the RS 200 4wd system is a bit over the top! Sure the Xr4x4/Cosworth 4x4 system is the same, power goes backwards from the engine to the gearbox, then forwards again to the front diff, its not that spectacular lol

I've owned both and the Sport was a nice road car but for hammerin through the canyons it was weak compared to the RS200E with 900 hp...

The RS200E was the car that could rip the heads off any one on the road and piss down their neck...

I'm in the US and the RS200E was the only street legal RS on the planet at the time..1989-1996
