  • dunno about respecting spiral; SM usually played the solos, including 'gold soundz' i think. most of the memorable pavement solos like 'summer babe' and 'infinite spark/fin' were him, but he tended to deviate from the recorded versions live. i can understand wanting to be freer than just replicating the album, but it often meant that live the solos were a scree of noise rather than some of the lovely melodies he picked out on record.

  • There is absolutely nothing that could make that song better. It is complaetely perfect.

  • @urokr and 'strings of nashville' on the b-side. greatest single ever.

  • ive been sittin here too long

  • my favorite song of all time...

  • Holy shit, there are Pavement fans in Korea. That's awesome.

Damn, he played that beginning riff real quick. What a tease lol.

    SM pleases me indeed :).

Go back, to those gold soundz, and keep my advent to yourself.

  • PAVEMENT R.I.P.....

    although stephen is good solo.....

  • Is Malkmus using a Strat? Anyone know what model that is?

  • It's a Tele, don't know the specifics.

  • I think it's a 5'2 reissue.

  • @ChrisHasSpareTime

    it's a Fender Telecaster '52 reissue

  • @ChrisHasSpareTime Looks like a 52ri Tele

  • Stephen Malkmus is the coolest person alive i think

  • I love this song.

  • thanks for posting this; another great video by Stephen Malkmus via paulmalkmus

  • Love Gold Soundz, but its just not as good without pavement, too quick, not as tight, love Spiral on guitar on this song and he is missed here. At about 1:47 in is when SS would be jamming.

  • Gold Soundz is possibly the greatest song by Pavement! I remember listening to this over and over in seventh grade back in 95!

  • @silentgalaxy27 me for ninth grade back in 09-10.

  • Seung Hoon on drums from Yellow Kitchen.Min Soo on guitar. They are friends who learned all the pavement songs for the event.theyre all big pavement fans too.

  • Stephen Malkmus playing a song with a pavement cover band strikes me as hilarious for some reason. Pretty good epitomization of Pavement, really. this song is great

  • Kim Deal is easily the most beautiful woman in the history of the world.

  • Im dying to see Malkmus live!

  • i saw him yesterday :)))))))))

  • I prefer the Pavement version,

    But still cool.

  • malkmus for prez

  • weiss for veep

  • SM even did some of Spiral's parts for him.

  • with that comment from majstor325123, it could've been on purpose too. i've seen and heard some other pavement stuff where he adds in the odd sharp or flat.

  • I'm starting to wonder if this is in Seoul or not

  • Do I gotta go to South Korea to hear good old Pavement now?

  • this wasn't malkmus's band, it was a korean pavement cover band that malkmus heard of and thought it would be funny to play with when he was touring in seoul. i'm sure it made the band's lives.

  • puhlease. there's no such thing as a korean pavement cover band. this is malkmus's band, most likely the jicks.

  • hang on. watch the end. those guys look pretty korean.

  • does that bassist look like a girl to you?

  • I think the Jicks do have a girl bassist. I heard she used to date Elliott Smith.

  • of course. that's why this can't be the jicks. that is not joanna on bass

  • her name is Joanne and she's kimdeal-hot.

  • I love KimDeal-Hot!

  • That is indeed a Korean band - I forget their name - which played Pavement covers in addition to their own tunes. They were pretty good. I was there on 7 January 2002: the ticket's in front of me now. The place was packed. Malkmus shared the bill with Mary Timony. After the show, he signed CDs - mine included - and posters. A great, freezing night with Mr Malkmus!

  • HOLY CRAP.... Seoul? No kidding. Had I f**king known. Well in 2002 I pretty much had no idea who the f**k Stephen Malkmus was anyway... but STILL. DUDE. My eyes are now streaming with tears... I'm dead serious it's not even funny.

  • he didn't "fuck up the solo" he respected spiral stairs by just doing his own part of a Pavement song solo. Remember this is Steves solo band. I think it was awesome that he did not have another person "duplicate" Spiral's solo guitar part

  • I think that majstor325123 meant he hit a wrong note

  • umm...from every pavement - gold soundz live video ive never seen spiral staircase played the solo, sm did. psh malkmus is a 100 times better guitar player, songwriter, pretty much anything than spiral.

  • umm...from all the pavement - gold soundz live videos ive seen, spiral staircase never played the solo, sm did. psh, malkmus is a 100 times better guitarist, songwriter, pretty much anything than spriral staircase.

  • really good video

  • he fucked up the solo but still sounds good!

  • i have an epiphany every time i hear this song

  • One of the coolest songs I've ever heard

  • ...this video just made me cry. I havent cried in years. thank you-

  • hhaaa good one

  • cuz it's secret

  • When I saw Malk live he didnt play and Pavement songs.

    Thanks for putting this up.

  • pavement were gods no doubt. heart forever

  • This is one of my all-time favorite Pavement songs! Thanks a lot for putting it up!
