I went to move my female peruvian redtailed boa from her cage to her feeding cage, and as I was getting her out she hissed a little and then started thrashing and resisting until she swung around and nailed me just below my left eye, she around 6ft at the time. My shirt was ruined that day from the blood.
I have a five year old northern emerald that I've raised since he was a neo, Never really been a biter or even a bit aggressive. One day I was showing off how nice he looks to a buddy then out of no where he pops me in the lips and sinks those big teeth in. I'm use to surprise emeralds bites by now but that was the worse. Kinda hurt a bit and took a minute to get him to let go... The bleeding wouldn't stop and freaked out my buddy and wife... LMAO
i was in class holding our class pet hamster when 2 of them started fighting, i pulled them apart and one lached on to my finger took 5 minutes to get it off my finger was so swollen i could not go to school the next day

@SnakeBytesTv My other memorable bite was Rufus, my hypo centralian python (Morelia bredli). I wouldn't call him vicious but you certainly can't trust him. I was handling him on my balcony when he went for a tag to my face. I flinched backwards hard enough that I went over the rail. All I could think of was Rufus so I held him up as I fell 1 story, flat on to my back, on to the outdoor table before hitting the ground on my side. Naturally Rufus was shook up so he expressed this by (cntd)
@SnakeBytesTv Like most reptile keepers I have copped my fair share of bites over the years. But 2 stand out. My Shingleback Lizard (Tiliqua Rugosa) before he settled down got me on the thumb. They are slow moving and the tamest things on earth when they have been handled (even as adults), but their bite is an all new definition of pain. Imagine putting your thumb in to the business end of a pair of pliers then getting your biggest friend to stand on the squeezing end. That was my worst bite.
snakes aren't "mean." They bite because they are scared, annoyed, hungry, insecure...etc. They don't sit there and think, "i'm in a bad mood so I'm just going to be a bitch today." It's important to know WHY your snake is biting so that you can attend to what is aggravating your animal. "know when to walk away" is GREAT advise!

Okay, question. Boa vs. Python. Which species have you noticed to be the more calm? From what I've seen, the Pythons tend to be more prone to aggressive behavior in relation to Boas. Just asking for a breeder's point of view. My Boa has always been the most relaxed snake, and loves to be handled/cuddled.
Ok about the questions, snakebitesstories...I have 2 red rainbowboa's. I get bitten by them everytime. I tried Steve Irwin em, I tried Cesar Milan-ning snakes...Didn't help. The tricky part is they don't warn they just go in defensive mode.
How do you feel about snake hooks? Simply for slipping under the coils to get the snake out of the cage where they calm down and not using one to pin down the head because I agree with you on disliking doing that.
also, you say to let him figure out that you are not food, i am curious where you come down on the whole "feed him in a different cage" argument. so when you open the enclosure he knows he is going to be handled, but when you take him and put him in his feeding enclosure with the food in it, then he knows to eat. second question... i hear much talk about "feeding response" is it possible to reduce a snakes food response so he doesn't strike at food, just pick it up with his mouth?

Hi Brian, when i was seven years old I was bitten by a baby rattlesnake. Ever since the i was bit, most people would have thought i would hate snakes, but instead i have found a new passion. I now Know everything there is to know about rattlesnakes, including not to get to close to them, and to admire them from a distance. Anyways i am a huge fan of your show and i hope to get to see you and chewy in upcoming videos.
i know this is a little old, but i was at a concert once, and at the end, the drummer threw his drumsticks in the crowd. I caught one end while some woman grabbed the other end, and after some tug-of-war , she bit my hand. I realized it wasnt worth it at that point.
I have never been bitten out of aggression more or less for food mistakes, but I try not to teach my snakes or reptiles aggressive techniques. What would be some interesting Ideas for some upcoming episodes would be how you tame an aggressive snake in especially if it’s a color morph or showing off more deadly colors of ball pythons like the glow or banana morphs. i have had many encounters with snakes but the worst by a 12ft 150 pound albino granite burmese python. needed 30 stitches to my upper arm and 15 in my forearm. But i have tamed that snake out and she hasn't bit me again. Happy days:)

i was holding my bros gerbil and he was handling my Burmese python, but after 10 mins he got bored and brought her back into my room forgetting that i have a rodent in my hand anyway Lucia (the python) saw the gerbil and went for it. half an hour later my mum comes home find me with my hole hand in a snakes mouth she screams calls an ambulance but by the time they get there i have removed the snake and my hands fine (surprisingly) but my bro still made me buy him a new gerbil WHAT A JERK !!
My ball used to be near our big fan. The ULF caused by the fan actually made him pissed as hell and he would strike at anything! I still have a bit of scar left from his bite! He was fine once we moved him away from the fan.
i was once sitting on the street with my friends when out of nowhere this yorkshire terriër dog Bit me in the arm , right into the tricep , he bit me so hard with those terriër teeth that when i jumped up he was hanging off my arm O.o , it hurt like hell , there was some blood , and when i got it off it just ran away again , it was so wierd and random o.o
When I had this Turkish shepherd dog, KING was so big it could easily take me down. And I'm 6.3 so imagine the size of the dog. Anyway one day I was playing with him and suddenly he started to wrestle me.He tackled me to the ground and it was fun until I saw him having erection when he was on top. Lucky me He didn't get excited too much and stopped playing LOL. He bit me before when I was petting another dog. But he was great. BTW only reason I bought my first BOA is because of you guys.Big love

My animal attack story is as follows.When I was about six I got bit in the face by your garden variety hunting dog, a mutt basicly. 400 stitches , a skin graft, months of treatment, and 17 years later. I can still say I'm an animal lover, and that it isn't just "wild animals" that can cause harm. Fido can be just as dangerous as a burmese, it is the level of knowledge and respect you have for an animal that counts.Not the number of years it has been a pet breed
My worst bite experience is when I was working with a Jerusalem Cricket (also called a potato bug) It didn't hurt as much as it scared THE ever loving feces out of me, I have appropriately named this Jerusalem Cricket, Jiminy Hitler.
I was walking in around late at night and I saw somthing move. Me being me I decided to check it out. So I go over where I heard the noise and a fox came out of nowhere charging me. Turns out it had babies and it had an injured paw. So I went to get some help taking her and the babies home for recovery. She was all better un about 3 weeks. I wanted to keep one of the babies so bad. We let them all back in the wild before they got too active.
Bite story. Well, It takes a while to feed every one and one time I was just wanting to be done and didn't bother to wash my hands after handling the rats. Well, my 4 ft boa loves to eat and my hand smelled like rat. She bit me 3 times before I even knew she got me once. All my fault and I was pretty proud of her. hahahaha
Well I was feeding my Boa with a live mouse but the little guy missed the mouse bite himself and ... yeah - he killed himself... never heard about stories like that - might be strange...
Hi brian i watch your show on a weekly basis and i think what you and the gang do is not only educational which helps me take care of my reptiles but is also very fun to watch. i have just ventured into to the world of keeping boa's and a big concern for me is mites i have seen first hand in the reptile shop were i volunteer how much discomfort it causes these beautiful animals..is there any way of preventing mites? any advice would be truly appreciated...thank you stu from leeds uk

I got nicked only once by the first snake I've ever owned. A small ball python. I put a mouse in the cage, and it ran into the snake hide. I thought about it, decided to risk it, and reached in to remove the hide. I got what I deserved. Really doesn't hurt too bad though.

Answer : Worst bit I got is from a mad co-worker girl. She had been blasting everyone in the store, when I turned the situation against her, she didn't like it. She first tried to hit me in the private part, so I grabbed her by the back. She bite me so hard, she didn't want to go loose until my boss came in. It's been over 7 years and I still have the scars. Crazy girls ! I have some crazy females snakes in my racks that are more gentle than her :D !
Many years ago a guy I bought rats from was showing me a beautiful large (about10 foot) boa, and told me it had always been a very calm animal, and had never bitten anyone. He held it out toward me, and in the blink of an eye it hammered me dead on the mouth. It actually knocked me down, and got multiple teeth in both lips. It took 45 minutes to get the bleeding stopped. Except for that incident, it really did prove to be a very placid animal, and to my knowledge never struck at anyone again.
A couple of years ago when i was in my mountain property in colorado, i up-rooted a small tree to clear the way of a larger tree that i was going to cut down, and there was a nest of ground bees under the small tree and i was attacked. i now have a pretty bad fear of bees. Great show guys.

I had a pair of Aru Scrubbies for awhile. Those things would bite every time I handled them The male nailed me in the face and the end of my nose! You couldn't get a hook long enough they were like heat seeking missiles with teeth.
Id have to say the worst bite i got was a bite to the nuts by a cat when i was 7. Nothing got ruptured or anything, but it was still the most painful experience of my life. I shudder every time i think of it
well, when i was 1, my dad had a chow chow. she was blind (i think) at the time. i played with her a bit, then she bit my face and ripped a ton of skin off! i still have a scar or two today, but not rly noticable.
My animal story is me getting myself bit by a golden retriever. I was 2 yrs. old and I hugged it too hard so he snapped and gave me a giant scar on my face. I had 13 stitches although it was my fault I learned a great lesson, be respectful to animals. Also, 14 yrs later, the scar is nearly gone. I love watching SnakeBytes :)
I have a story of not really getting full on bit but a mistake I once made. I was feeding my 6ft redtail boa Lilith, when she first struck the rat she kinda missed and knocked it out of my hand, I made a mistake of trying to pick it up so I could offer it to her again and I assume she thought I was trying to take it from her and she tagged me in the hand didn't bite down more of a warning tag. Again wasn't her fault it was mine.

I have never been bitten by my ball python, Fluffy before. But I have gotten bit my three seperate dogs in my life. One of them sent me to the hospital. Sorry, but snakes seem so much nice to me than man's best friend.

i know this is a little old, but i was at a concert once, and at the end, the drummer threw his drumsticks in the crowd. I caught one end while some woman grabbed the other end, and after some tug-of-war , she bit my hand. I realized it wasnt worth it at that point.

I have never been bitten out of aggression more or less for food mistakes, but I try not to teach my snakes or reptiles aggressive techniques. What would be some interesting Ideas for some upcoming episodes would be how you tame an aggressive snake in especially if it’s a color morph or showing off more deadly colors of ball pythons like the glow or banana morphs. i have had many encounters with snakes but the worst by a 12ft 150 pound albino granite burmese python. needed 30 stitches to my upper arm and 15 in my forearm. But i have tamed that snake out and she hasn't bit me again. Happy days:)

i was holding my bros gerbil and he was handling my Burmese python, but after 10 mins he got bored and brought her back into my room forgetting that i have a rodent in my hand anyway Lucia (the python) saw the gerbil and went for it. half an hour later my mum comes home find me with my hole hand in a snakes mouth she screams calls an ambulance but by the time they get there i have removed the snake and my hands fine (surprisingly) but my bro still made me buy him a new gerbil WHAT A JERK !!

My ball used to be near our big fan. The ULF caused by the fan actually made him pissed as hell and he would strike at anything! I still have a bit of scar left from his bite! He was fine once we moved him away from the fan.

i was once sitting on the street with my friends when out of nowhere this yorkshire terriër dog Bit me in the arm , right into the tricep , he bit me so hard with those terriër teeth that when i jumped up he was hanging off my arm O.o , it hurt like hell , there was some blood , and when i got it off it just ran away again , it was so wierd and random o.o

When I had this Turkish shepherd dog, KING was so big it could easily take me down. And I'm 6.3 so imagine the size of the dog. Anyway one day I was playing with him and suddenly he started to wrestle me.He tackled me to the ground and it was fun until I saw him having erection when he was on top. Lucky me He didn't get excited too much and stopped playing LOL. He bit me before when I was petting another dog. But he was great. BTW only reason I bought my first BOA is because of you guys.Big love

My animal attack story is as follows.When I was about six I got bit in the face by your garden variety hunting dog, a mutt basicly. 400 stitches , a skin graft, months of treatment, and 17 years later. I can still say I'm an animal lover, and that it isn't just "wild animals" that can cause harm. Fido can be just as dangerous as a burmese, it is the level of knowledge and respect you have for an animal that counts.Not the number of years it has been a pet breed

I was walking in around late at night and I saw somthing move. Me being me I decided to check it out. So I go over where I heard the noise and a fox came out of nowhere charging me. Turns out it had babies and it had an injured paw. So I went to get some help taking her and the babies home for recovery. She was all better un about 3 weeks. I wanted to keep one of the babies so bad. We let them all back in the wild before they got too active.

Bite story. Well, It takes a while to feed every one and one time I was just wanting to be done and didn't bother to wash my hands after handling the rats. Well, my 4 ft boa loves to eat and my hand smelled like rat. She bit me 3 times before I even knew she got me once. All my fault and I was pretty proud of her. hahahaha

I got nicked only once by the first snake I've ever owned. A small ball python. I put a mouse in the cage, and it ran into the snake hide. I thought about it, decided to risk it, and reached in to remove the hide. I got what I deserved. Really doesn't hurt too bad though.

Answer : Worst bit I got is from a mad co-worker girl. She had been blasting everyone in the store, when I turned the situation against her, she didn't like it. She first tried to hit me in the private part, so I grabbed her by the back. She bite me so hard, she didn't want to go loose until my boss came in. It's been over 7 years and I still have the scars. Crazy girls ! I have some crazy females snakes in my racks that are more gentle than her :D !

Many years ago a guy I bought rats from was showing me a beautiful large (about10 foot) boa, and told me it had always been a very calm animal, and had never bitten anyone. He held it out toward me, and in the blink of an eye it hammered me dead on the mouth. It actually knocked me down, and got multiple teeth in both lips. It took 45 minutes to get the bleeding stopped. Except for that incident, it really did prove to be a very placid animal, and to my knowledge never struck at anyone again.

A couple of years ago when i was in my mountain property in colorado, i up-rooted a small tree to clear the way of a larger tree that i was going to cut down, and there was a nest of ground bees under the small tree and i was attacked. i now have a pretty bad fear of bees. Great show guys.

I had a pair of Aru Scrubbies for awhile. Those things would bite every time I handled them The male nailed me in the face and the end of my nose! You couldn't get a hook long enough they were like heat seeking missiles with teeth.

My animal story is me getting myself bit by a golden retriever. I was 2 yrs. old and I hugged it too hard so he snapped and gave me a giant scar on my face. I had 13 stitches although it was my fault I learned a great lesson, be respectful to animals. Also, 14 yrs later, the scar is nearly gone. I love watching SnakeBytes :)

I have a story of not really getting full on bit but a mistake I once made. I was feeding my 6ft redtail boa Lilith, when she first struck the rat she kinda missed and knocked it out of my hand, I made a mistake of trying to pick it up so I could offer it to her again and I assume she thought I was trying to take it from her and she tagged me in the hand didn't bite down more of a warning tag. Again wasn't her fault it was mine.

I have never been bitten by my ball python, Fluffy before. But I have gotten bit my three seperate dogs in my life. One of them sent me to the hospital. Sorry, but snakes seem so much nice to me than man's best friend.
