The NYACC on 110th is loaded with pitbulls. It's heartbreaking! I walked by there the other day and a whole van of them was sitting there in the driveway, you could hear them crying for 1/2 a block! Like the man says, they're a status dog, and are kind of scary for anyone else to adopt. So many of them meet horrible fates.
Spay or neuter your pet. Stop using pitbulls as penis substitutes and get in the ring and fight it out yourselves. Cowardly shmucks.
We just got a 5-month-old kitten from Animal Care & Control in Manhattan. They were doing a two-for-one deal, but we could only take one. $25, and the animal is already spayed/neutered. We chose AC&C precisely because they euthanize animals -- it's only because they have to, not because they want to.
The stigma placed on pitbulls is sad. My brother has a pitbull and she is so sweet. The other day, I walked her and a cat ran by, she did not even attempt to chase her nor did she bark. She is a family pet and protects my young niece with her life. People should do more research on dogs before they post their ignorant comments which in turn may influence someone elses opinion to be just as close minded. Animals were on this earth before humans, they are Gods creation too.
I just dropped off a small tiger-colored kitten today at the Brooklyn shelter. I really hope someone adopts the cute little fuzzball. I found her under my car yesterday. They named her Kylie.
they put the animals to sleep if there is no room. how can u put an animal like these to sleep? i hate this organization. its something people shouldnt even look into. i found a dog yesterday and it was taken home by the security guard. today she put it back in the same spot. i took it inside and called everyone to see who can take her and then someone decided to take her to the police station. now shes being placed in this center. im scared they will put her to sleep. (i named her lucy)
alejakababa: You obviously have never worked at a municipal shelter before. They do not have the luxury of choosing which dogs they take in like a rescue group does. Shelter workers find homes for dogs and cats dumped on them 24/7 by irresponsible people; then they have to euthanize animals that they love because there is physically no more room or they are too aggressive. Before you open your ignorant mouth try working for a municipal shelter and then you will be entitled to an opinion.
well im not ignorant. thats one. two yes obvii i dont know much about this, cause i do love animals. and three, i am entitled to my own opinion.. meaning u dont have to say shit about me, cause u dont know me.
No not ok. I dont need to know you because your comments say it all. You admit to not knowing much about it but then you run your mouth. You can not post hateful comments and expect everyone to be ok with it. If you really loved animals you would help organizations like these, not disrespect them.
They only put animals to sleep when they run out of space - this isn't the fault of the organization, but instead the fault of pet owners and the community. It's a great organization. Don't hate them, hate the community.
I just called to inquire about AC&C donating animal tissues for research when an animal is put to sleep. I am very disappointed that you guys don't donate. It is important to for us scientist to have access to these tissues to discovers cures and stuff and to find alternatives to doing research on live animals.
thanx for posting this i am a animal control officer for cacc and more people need to see this... so they can come in and adopt the cats and dogs that myself and other drivers rescue every day....
Any advice for me? There is an aggressive, un-neutered pitbull that is kept by an irresponsible owner two doors away from me. The dog has attacked my two small dogs twice now, including running up inside my house the last time. What can I do to prevent this dog from killing my dogs?
Shoot it's owner for being a cruel and neglectful handler. If the Pitbull knows you and doesn't really consider you as a threat or enemy you can try to just tell it to stop or sit and chances are good it will listen, especially if you're firm with it and act like a dominant leader instead of a running in to rescue the poor little doggies kinda person.
im sik of finding bags of kittens drowned washing up dead on the shore of the brisbane river. i found another one yesterday. 6 kittens. its really really sad seeing their little faces knowing that they didnt deserve it. its because of people that dont spay their animals, that let their animals continously have litters, that i have to dispose of drowned kittens in the garbage.
Thank you for this excellent vid! I used to volunteer at the 110th St shelter and it was so sick & twisted there -- Playful cats were deemed "vicious" and put to death, just for being playful, because staff could keep the numbers of "adoptable pets euthanized" down at the end of the year if they could claim some more were "vicious" or otherwise "unfit for adoption." Same for the dogs. It's like an animal Auschwitz. Everyone should go there and adopt
volunteers are great but when you disgrace the shelters you worked with you might as well have not volunteered you know what it is like in the inside not many people do and here you are giving them a false account of whats happenng behind closed doors... shame on you you are one of the people that make daily job more unbearable.
This is disturbing. I was wondering about the relatively low percentage of "adoptable" animals the organization claims to euthanize. They are under incredible pressure, however.
i found a wid baby bird that lost its mother will they take her in

qbanricanplaya1 3 years ago
Maybe not dangerous TO YOU! But to other animals, especially if the pitbull isn't fixed, the pitbull is extremely dangerous.
AllN1TE 2 years ago
Not true. Pits are no more dangerous than other breeds. Look it up.

I make beds and toys for the AC&C animals to make them more comfortable in their cages, through the "Cage Comforter Program" at AC&C.
If only they could all find homes!
