  • Glad you learned something. Thanks for posting a comment.

Here are some corrections to help some more:

    1) Remember to use periods after sentences.

    2) Use an apostrophe in contractions: that's/ can't/ it's/ I'm

    3) Capitalize proper names: Jennifer/ Turkey

    4) Watch spelling:

    are/ benevolent/ hungry

    Good luck in your studies!

  • Hi Jennifer,

Thank for you lesson, I am learning and seeing these expressions for my first time. I am not so good in English grammar, please advised me which lesson I should pay more attention to?

    thanks

  • You can choose which lessons and subjects you want to focus on. Go to my channel and look for the playlists. I've organized my videos by category. Start with Basic Grammar, and then try the regular grammar lessons. If you have a question, you can post it as a comment.

  • hi jenny! just wanna thank you for being so generous to share us your videos. Personally, it helps me a lot. Hope to see more lessons from you especially about american accent and grammar. Thank you so much. God bless!

  • Thanks for your kind feedback. Have you seen my lessons on American Slang?

  • hey jenny its time . lets talk turky.its very serious topic , my mum had prepared very tasty indian punjabi breakfast and i ate alot so i'm stuffed at the moment.well i'm not going to say u go cold turky but u should try high caloried punjabi food.

  • You're so kind, and teach us so sweet and tenderly that i don't have words to thank u, i don't know you, but i can see how lovely person you are, in name of all fellows, who comes here learn english, i thank you for all you have done...thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart...

  • Thank you for such warm appreciation of my videos!

  • Thanks for this excellent online videos. We will definitely will be interested if you could release dvds and books with lots of exercises and answers for ESL students.

I have a doubt . could you please clarify.

As a counselor is it appropriate to use these expressions in the following context: "we have assisted lots of patients with addiction. if you are interested we have so many ways to help you to go cold turkey"..

does this sound aweful? or is it good to use as such!

    Thanks

  • It doesn't sound awful, but the idiom is better suited to informal English. The tone in your statement is professional, so I'd suggest alternative wording:

"We have assisted a lot of patients fight/ overcome/ battle addiction. If you are interested, we have many ways to help."

  • thanks for the response, very much appreciated!

  • how can we check students understanding in a grammar lesson

Experienced teachers please answer this qustion

    many thanks in Advance

  • This is a good question for a discussion board. I'm limited in space here. My brief answer:

    1. Use direct questions for students to answer.

    2. Use a controlled exercise to check their understanding of meaning, form, or use of grammar.

    3. Use a communicative activity to check their understanding of meaning, form, or use of grammar.

    4. Make your presentations interactive to gauge their understanding/ knowledge of the topic.

#2/3 = For more, see books by Diane Larsen-Freeman.

  • Thank you very much for your lessons..you are an excellent good teacher.

  • very perfect thank you very much

  • Thank you and appreciate your great efforts!

  • Hi jenny,How are you?I have problems in using apparently, eventually,so far,as long as,as far as.I would appreciete it if you would help me using these words. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Sounds like you could use a lesson on adverbs and/or conjunctions. That's something I can add to my list of topics to cover in 2008.

Please write to my Gmail account for more specific details.

  • For now, here are some examples to study:

    - APPARENTLY, you are an advanced student of English.

    - With practice you will EVENTUALLY master the use of adverbs. There are different kinds to study.

    - SO FAR I've covered only a limited number of grammar topics.

    - I will continue to post lessons AS LONG AS viewers remain interested in my work.

    - AS FAR AS conditionals are concerned, you have no problems.

  • you are amazing using english grammer and the way you are preparing for lessons also very great. Please continue and keep posting.

  • Great!

  • if you are not a teacher you ought to start a career as one because you are amazing you have a lot of skills at teaching i have learned at lot from your videos.

  • I need to inform a few people here!

Jennifer is teaching American English not "British" English for example.

    1. English say, I am full not stuffed

    2. Never heard of lets talk Turkey. However, I have heard of lets shake hands, sign on the dotted line or in laymans terms, which means to make easy to understand what I am saying to you

I have to say her American English is good

  • Someone can say let's go to the grain. Also we use that in Mexico.

  • Hello, Jennifer!

    Greetings from Bulgaria!

Nice to meet your lessons (videos) online here at youtube! My english is very bad. I learn english allone at home. I am very happy to find your free lessons online! :)

Can I say "if I talk turkey, I have to say that your lessons are very helpful for learners like me?"

    Have a nice day!

KUDOS to you for your videos :)

  • I'm pleased to hear you like my lessons.

The sentence with "talk turkey" doesn't sound very natural, but I get your meaning. Thank you for those kind words!

(Watch the video again for a common context and example for "talk turkey".)

  • Thank you for your kindly reply! I am watching your video again right now :)!

  • great lesson. thanks Jennifer

  • thanks alot

  • Hello Jenifer, I really like your videos, you are a good teacher who explains everything quite well. Is it possible Could you teach how to pronunce the phonetic of Change, gorgeous, the vibration, sometimes I can pronunce it properly, thank you.

  • Sure. I'll send something via Gmail.

  • hi jennifer ,

Is it rite sentence " i got stuffed last nite at the dinner party" can we attach get with that?

  • Yes, you can say that, but it doesn't sound as natural. "I'm stuffed" is the common expression with the idiomatic meaning of "I'm full".

GET + ADJECTIVE (past participle)is often the informal equivalent of BE + ADJECTIVE (past participle). Example: Two drivers were hurt in the accident. = Two drivers got hurt in the accident.

  • The following sentences all sound natural:

    1. I ate so much at the dinner party last night, I felt stuffed.

    2. I was stuffed after eating so much at the dinner party last night.

    3. I stuffed my face at the dinner party last night because the food was so good.

  • Hi Jen, We miss your lessons! Send us more! Did you know that I bacame an addict of your classes.

Have a good week, you and your family!

  • I will never be stuffed with Jen's on-line course. It's so neat and clean. And she always talks t turkey without wasting a single minute on the people who expects to learn more about the native English. Who wouldn't love this? Even a drug dealer or an addict will go turkey after watching the course. :-)

  • One little correction: the expression is "go cold turkey".

Kudos to you for your effort!

(= Good job! I applaud your effort.)

  • Haha, Yes, "go cold turkey", thanks very much for your encouragement, Jen.

  • The lesson is not just transferring knowledge to the audience, but also it brings up some fun stuffs, like the cartoon pictures in this video, the turkey. BTW, did you draw it by yourself, Jen?

  • I'd like to take credit, but no. I often use clip art from Microsoft. Thank Bill Gates, not me. :)

  • thank you, Jen. It's very helpful.

  • Happy thanksgiving,Jen!

  • I just have one word:thanks!!!

  • jennny you are the salt of our Knowledge!

  • that's good , thanks Jennifer . can you next time make a video about university idioms and terms , becaus we , non native speakers of english , have some problems with understanding all the university vocabulary package!!

    thanks for everythiiiing!!

  • Do you mean words like: off-campus housing, coed, frat house, TA, and GPA? Or do you mean phrasal verbs like: sign up, hand in, and turn in?

One of the upcoming lessons on American slang will have a university context. Hopefully, I'll upload that in December.

Have you seen Vocabulary Lesson 5? One idiom is relevant to academic studies: "pass with flying colors".

  • No , i have not seen it yet!! i mean the words like the ones you stated ! thanks anyway!

  • Happy thanksgiving Jennifer, and thank you so much for this tremendous help you are providing us. I have learned more with you in three weeks than I did in the past ten years.

  • Amazing! I'm happy the lessons are helping you and other viewers. Thanks for the support.

  • i ask god to give me a wife like you...

  • LOL No one is perfect. I'm sure something about a woman like me would drive you crazy in less than a week. My husband could tell you how much I nag.

  • You are a treasure...It is rare that we look at a woman unknown with our heart ...

  • Thank you, Jennifer. I decided to go cold turkey and stop doing my habits.

  • Just break the bad habits. Keep the good ones, okay?

  • Thank you, Jennifer! And I promise that I'm gonna be stuffed on Thursday!!!! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!!

  • Thank you! Have a happy Thanksgiving yourself. Enjoy the feast.
