Conversely, U.S. governments shouldn't be able to treat people unequally. The states are prohibited from not giving people equal protection of law and while not exactly a protection, marriage is a legal arrangement that currently comes with benefits and protections.

@thursdaysrecords I don't fear equality. Honestly, the concept doesn't exist in wider sense and that is the reality which I have reconciled myself to. Marriage is a personal choice between couples and I really don't care if a gay couple decide they want to marry. I wanted question whether marriage is suitable for gays?
Given the life most gays I know lead it's sounds like marriage isn't an ideal institution.

There simply is no way to justify injustice. Just because "it's always been that way" is not a valid excuse to continue legalized discrimination.
