they were never awful! people just didnt give their music the time of day... so many of their old tunes were chart worthy

I agree 100 percent. Examples are
- scratch your name
- sister rosetta
- don't give up etc etc
All these songs were chart worthy. Hopefully with their new found success, people will revisit these songs and appreciate them more.
