FFVIII's world was pretty sweet. Enroll in a strangely homely military academy and train to become an elite mercenary, then go off and save the world from monsters that fall from the moon and evil sorceresses from the future. And as you're saving the very existence of Time itself, you can summon mythical beasts to clobber your enemies, and receive help from a gorgeous angel who uses her dog as a projectile, and a hot blonde who carries a whip and can shoot lasers out of her eyes. Pretty sweet.

Ah this game, FF8 is one of the FF games from my childhood that I never beat.

I really need to go online and buy all these classics before they become really collectable and overpriced. The Snes and PS1 era was the golden age of RPG gaming, great music, great stories, and a world that you just enjoyed exploring.

Rpgs these days have vast worlds but theyre not as rewarding to explore as these games.

Finally experiencing this entry on my PSP. Sure the Junction system is sort of confusing but I'm enjoying it. This and Fisherman's Horizon are my favorite tunes. Plus THE MAN WITH THE GODDAMN MACHINE GUN :D

I liked how they went into a more realistic fantasy for 8. The characters weren't dressed like super future warriors(Except for the Galbadians) and they weren't Mideval era mages and such. Realistic, excluding flying buildings, invisible cities, magic, and the queen of the universe The Sorceress/Ultimatia

Must be one of the greatest games ever made. For me it is, at least. This is one of the greatest tunes as well, used to listen to it a lot even before I got to play this. Still don't own the game myself, but thank God for emulators. I will, one day, play this beautifully created master of a game.

I agree with Jeliza on all points. Two of the best, and 8 is the best, in my opinion, of the Final Fantasy games; best RPG goes to Chrono Trigger, though, sorry.

Same. Never even touched an RPG before this one. Many say FF8 was too westernized, too Titanic-ish. I liked that. But I also liked FF9 that went back to the roots of the series. Perhaps my two most favorite FF games ever. Another thing I liked about these 32bit console FF's are the text bubbles, no voice overs but text so you fill in the voices with your imagination.
