@nishaJD Well - I guess the proof is in the pudding! If it looks good then does it matter? Usually the fake ones will look flat or worse be uncomfortable to view causing eye-strain.
@nishaJD One other tip. If you can turn the glasses round (left lens over right eye and vice-versa) and it doesn't look any better or worse then it's probably a poor conversion.
You can convert all your 2d videos to 3d for FREE and online only at 3DTV.com - check it out dude. No silly software to download. Just signup and convert!
I just got an 3d tv.. And Im looking for convertors.. I found this one and the movavi 3d converter. What is the difference and how do I know which one is better? Or are they equally?
@pipituga they all work about the same.....movavi and makeme 3d do the same job as stereo movie maker....but the others support mp4 and mkv....wile stereo movie maker don't. 3Dcombind is complicated. ive never got it to work they way they show it to work. they also don't show ya how to create a depth map. ive been looking at adobe premiere and it seems to produce the best 3d effect but its NOT simple software. also on the fly converting does not work very well.
@clamo636 If you want 3DCombine to work in a similar way to those other programs, just enable zero-artefacts mode in the automatic 2D->3D. The standard mode in 3DCombine is much more sophisticated but can introduce artefacts - especially if you have the depth setting high.
@RScullion that zero-artifacts mode does nothing. I have tested just about every 2d to 3d conversion software out there and this software does the same job as the others do, the only software that actually added some depth was roxi, well now that it has been updated, it does the same job as dvd fab, witch is nothing at all. the only 2 programs that come close to adding depth are movavi and stereo movie maker. but the effect only works on objects that move. still objects have no depth.
@clamo636 I'm pretty sure that movavi and stereo movie maker just delay the right eye by a frame or two. That means that when the camera pans horizontally or something moves across the screen it has the effect of looking 3D, but as soon as the movement stops, everything goes flat. Worse, if things move vertically it gives you eyestrain. The 3DCombine zero artifacts mode does the same thing, but it reverts to 2D in the case of vertical movement to prevent eyestrain.
@RScullion yep thats what it does and unless 3dcombined can ever do what professional studios are capable of doing witch it cant. it will always be just like the others. and reverting back to 2d is not a proper way to convert 2d to 3d. might as well just not convert if it does that.
@clamo636 Well yes, by reverting to 2D you are essentially not converting that section. PS if you are having problems getting the depthmap based version to work I may be able to help?
@RScullion The standard 2D->3D algorithm in 3DCombine is much more sophisticated. It uses the information in the scene to build up a depthmap which can then be used to create a 3D image even once the movement stops or becomes vertical. The downside is it can produce artifacts in the image and is much more processor intensive.
when I do this, my countdown timer went to zero then in the negative time remaining. it says 100% complete
-1h -9m remaining, like it is doing it again to verify? is that normal, I am running an i7 920 at 3.4GHz and the video took 8 hr. to get to 100% and video is only 38sec.!! I don't want to keep waiting for it to recheck if it is messed up. Is it normal to get to 100% then stay there and keep doing something? I set Quality to Highest setting 3?
@justinhhhfan Firstly, set the Quality to 0 to begin with. It should run much more quickly and allow you to check the result. If the timer is going to negative numbers it may be that the video is reporting its length incorrectly. However, so long as the video provides frames, it will run to completion. You should see it stepping through the frames if it is running.
@seanybiker Let us know what you find out. I would image it'll be either the horizontal or vertical interleaved format. You'll need to resize the image to the exact screen resolution before saving it or the lines will be messed up.
@drdavis34 Yes - you can do half side by side. Either by adding the 'half width' filter or by selecting 'Sensio' as the output format.
The webm format that is now support uses an MKV container to store video compressed with the Google WebM codec. It is unlikely that it will support MPEG4 compression in an MKV container due to software patent issues.
@RScullion i own a 32 inch bravia LCD, is it compatible? and when I'm converting a 2D video to 3D, it says "2500 hours remaining" (Im converting Imax Hubble, 44mins long) how to make it quicker than that? After converting, I will save it on my PS3 and watch it there with Bravia. please help. Thanks for responding! :)
@RevolutionGraphics It depends on the content of the clip. If you want to guarantee theatre-like 3D you need to follow the professional 2D->3D conversion tutorial but it's a lot more effort.
please does anyone know were i can Download 3D movies???
cuz the most movies are in 3D and im trying to Download SAW 7 in 3D and i found it on normal Video and i wanna see it on 3D with the blue and red glasses shit
@gTa4ever1369 Just convert the common 2d movies into 3d movies, but you need to have a 3d tv, or your screen can support 3d video output. Then wear your 3d glasses to enjoy the 3d movies. you can convert your blu-ray or dvds, DVDfab will help you to do so.
@linocoria It has two modes. The automated one, described above, generates the depthmap (you never see it). The manual one requires the user to provide the depthmap for keyframes (see the professional 2D ->3D video tutorial).
a simple question, why does it take a long long long time to convert it, or save it (in 3dCombine)? am i doing something wrong. it says 146hours to convert/ save. why? why? why? how long did it take you???? is it becuase my video is 20 minutes long or what?
I have this software Tridef that can easily convert 2d to 3d in just one click. But when putting on my home-made 3d glasses (red&blue cellophane), it is not working. What can you recommend? :) I need it for a project. Thank you!
@darshanucb Yes, you can convert any movie but the quality will depend on how much effort you are willing to put in. The automatic mode works really well for some clips, but some will require you to create depthmaps for best results.
@dago0109 You can use which ever glasses you want, depending on what output format you choose. If you choose anaglyph then you can use the red/green glasses.
Just to note that there is a new program out called DepthGauge on the 3DCombine website. It is just for 2D->3D conversion but is much easier to use and much cheaper. It also seems to be faster.
When I load a 2d Movie, the program gives me this message: Unable to build playback graph. Please check required playback filters are present. What do I have to do now?
That message usually means you don't have the required codecs installed. The easiest thing to do is to follow my other tutorial on 'preparing videos for use in 3DCombine and other directshow enabled programs'.
Thanks for the video tutorial..I have a question...I want to make a regional language Sci-Fi movie in India with 3D....Which software will I use to convert 2D to 3D??? How much difference will it make from 2D??? thanks in advance

Whenever I try to convert using DivX, Xvid, or any format for that matter it says something ridiculous like 700 hours remaining, am I doing something incorrectly?
@brothersofrot oh yeah, additional info... Using a DivX file to begin with, followed your directions. This is a completely new PC, no shortage of RAM etc. Could it be that I'm using an unregistered version? Any ideas?
Obviously the result is never going to be up to the quality of a top Hollywood conversion, though you can get pretty close using the manual 2D->3D conversion.
The automatic function breaks the scene down into different objects and tries to judge their relative depth. It can be very effective, especially in scenes with plenty of motion.
@GrandDizzy Obviously the results won't be as good as true 3D films that were shot with 2 cameras but there is more and more software coming out that can create a pretty good 3D effect on videos, I even tried a trail of a video player called TriDef, google it if you like, it turns any video file into 3D in real time as it plays it
What is the video you are trying to convert? If it doesn't have much motion in it then it won't work very well, you might be better off using the 2D->3D filters.
It's some old music videos - I'll keep experimenting. While I have you're attention I'm trying to convert 2 PAL video streams into one interlaced one but I keep getty strips across it. I am trying to convert my Channel 4 3D Week Showreel but not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Are you doing any resizing. Interlaced videos usually have strips across them when they are resized after interlacing. Are you seeing the strips during playback? You will find that you either need to resize the images to screen size before playback or use a proper 3D player, such as the one built into 3DCombine which will resize then interlace.
Are you doing any resizing after interlacing - this is usually the cause of strips across interlaced images? How are you displaying the converted video, if it's in a standard 2D player then it may be resizing it. Try using a proper 3D video player such as the one built into 3DCombine.
I've created a left PAL AVI and a right PAL AVI using the DV codec then combined them - I'm playing this back via my nVidia 3D Video Player. I can see on the file when playing back in 2D that there looks like missing interlaced lines - so it does look like something is wrong prior to 3d playback.
when the video is converted, and i play it back normally, i do see the 3d effect but its abit fuzzy in places. how do i get rid of this? or is my laptop or tv that needs chaging or is it do with graphic cards and stuff??
does this convert to color code?

@brothersofrot oh yeah, additional info... Using a DivX file to begin with, followed your directions. This is a completely new PC, no shortage of RAM etc. Could it be that I'm using an unregistered version? Any ideas?

You can also enable 'zero-artefacts' mode. This will be much faster.

@RScullion Doesn't that make no anaglyph though?
brothersofrot 1 year ago
This was realtime. The resolution makes a big difference to the processing time.

About the conversion, is your PC so fast as in this video appears? or you accelerated the frame rate?

can u make a more updated video using the newer version of this program?
shivajr18 1 year ago
what the hell? you need 2 sets of camera footage to create 3D, how does this work?
sprayframe 2 years ago
This has to be a hoax, surely. You can't automatically turn 2D movies into 3D.
How could this program you're using know the shape or depth of the objects in the video?
Hollywood can't convert 2D movies into 3D without them looking fake in places. Even with millions of dolars, and each frame meticulously retouched,
GrandDizzy 2 years ago
Obviously the result is never going to be up to the quality of a top Hollywood conversion, though you can get pretty close using the manual 2D->3D conversion.
The automatic function breaks the scene down into different objects and tries to judge their relative depth. It can be very effective, especially in scenes with plenty of motion.
RScullion 2 years ago
Interesting. I wouldn't have thought it possible, especially not completely automated.
GrandDizzy 2 years ago
@GrandDizzy Obviously the results won't be as good as true 3D films that were shot with 2 cameras but there is more and more software coming out that can create a pretty good 3D effect on videos, I even tried a trail of a video player called TriDef, google it if you like, it turns any video file into 3D in real time as it plays it
Angus513 1 year ago
@GrandDizzy There's a bunch of software like this. They don't have good quality, but all of them are near to the Hollywood movies.

does this have real D 3d?
skaterz500 2 years ago
I've tried this on several videos but just can't see any 3D effect happening at all.
EnhancedDimensions 2 years ago
What is the video you are trying to convert? If it doesn't have much motion in it then it won't work very well, you might be better off using the 2D->3D filters.
RScullion 2 years ago
It's some old music videos - I'll keep experimenting. While I have you're attention I'm trying to convert 2 PAL video streams into one interlaced one but I keep getty strips across it. I am trying to convert my Channel 4 3D Week Showreel but not sure what I'm doing wrong.
EnhancedDimensions 2 years ago
Are you doing any resizing. Interlaced videos usually have strips across them when they are resized after interlacing. Are you seeing the strips during playback? You will find that you either need to resize the images to screen size before playback or use a proper 3D player, such as the one built into 3DCombine which will resize then interlace.
RScullion 2 years ago
Are you doing any resizing after interlacing - this is usually the cause of strips across interlaced images? How are you displaying the converted video, if it's in a standard 2D player then it may be resizing it. Try using a proper 3D video player such as the one built into 3DCombine.
RScullion 2 years ago
I've created a left PAL AVI and a right PAL AVI using the DV codec then combined them - I'm playing this back via my nVidia 3D Video Player. I can see on the file when playing back in 2D that there looks like missing interlaced lines - so it does look like something is wrong prior to 3d playback.
EnhancedDimensions 2 years ago
It's not something funny with the DV codec is it. Do you get the same effect if you use uncompressed?
It might be better to save it as a side-by-side image.
RScullion 2 years ago
I'll give it a shot - do you have any guidance on best source formats and codecs to use with 3D Combine?
EnhancedDimensions 2 years ago
xVid is a good, free, codec. I would recommend use of cross-eyed side-by-side format wherever possible.
RScullion 2 years ago
you need a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz
cyberman644 2 years ago
how did you get that codec?
jackkiej11 2 years ago
when the video is converted, and i play it back normally, i do see the 3d effect but its abit fuzzy in places. how do i get rid of this? or is my laptop or tv that needs chaging or is it do with graphic cards and stuff??
please help. thanks
peednama 2 years ago
You can try enabling the 'zero artifacts mode' to remove fuzzy edges.
