  • @kingschnitz Why is it that people like you always assume that something must be harder when it's not common? You see any odd variation in someones technique and just assume it's harder. It's not. Underhand grip benchpresses adds about 50-70lbs to a experienced benchers press. Did you ever stop to think that people do odd things like that because it's EASIER? Why would someone go out of their way to learn and use a technique that was HARDER?

  • Very strong ..this is harder than regular benching cause the weight is focoused mainly on tris. Also because your hands are in reverse you more so " balance "the bar in your hand rather than " hold " it like you would in a regular bench press. The bar has much higher propensity to fall directly onto your chest and without warning..or most likely because the bar is coming down on an angle it will most likely hit you in the neck.

  • I can honestly say I'm impressed. The guy didn't really look buff either but he destroyed 315 in reverse like it was nothing with no spotter. I'm happy with 10 reverse grip reps of 225lbs. Although I only way 165lbs and have a very long reach.

  • @allasis Dude never use the clamps if you are benching alone. Those are dangerous as there is no way to ditch if you have to.

  • Personally I find these easier to do then a regular grip. Looks harder then it actually is. I'm the only guy at my gym that does these. Although some of the younger guys are diggin them now, after watching me doing them. This is totally OLD SCHOOL. Great job by the way. Collars are a false sense of security. Without the collars you're forced to keep the weight balanced which in turn creates more strength in the long run.

  • @torontobluered studies have shown that reverse grip increases upper pec muscle fibers usage by 30% more than flat barbell bench press with a regular grip. an incline barbell bench press only increases upper pec usage by 5 %. look up "reverse thinking bench press" and "incline reverse bench press muscle fitness raw" on google.

  • @VivaMydick At the time I was training in a gym in South Korea, so it wasn't that hard to be near the top! I'm obviously not strong at all compared to proper lifters, but even still, 315lbs x 21 with reverse grip is well beyond most people and very impressive to watch. Especially for a n00b.

    it may cause abdominal injury

  • Arching your back (slightly) on a flat bench press should only be done (with caution not to overextend) by experienced lifters, when attempting heavy loads. This arching helps place more of the load, directly on the working muscles (the chest), instead of spread throughout the back. it has to be done carefully as you can injure your back if you over do it. One of the best lifters i've seen, also a PT at my gym, advises using a Back Brace thing, like for squatting, on all bench pressing
