Well, they charge about 3 times too mutch for their work, which is ok but deffinitely not the best. Their good organs but not at their prices. Their consoles tend to be problematic too.
We bought a 20 rank Wicks in 1998 for $11,000, had it rebuilt by Wicks (including the console) and added 11 ranks of mixed parentage some of which we already had. The total cost from Wicks was $124,000. It was installed in 1999. I call that a damned good price for 30 ranks (we discarded a Dolcan from the original spec). Adding in the organ's cost, dismantling and moving it (got a great price from Organ Clearing House), and carpentry we still came in at $150,000. See it at Wicks site. op. 3850.
That's great but as an organ tech the ones I've worked on have had some real problems with them. I'm talking from personal experience. If your happy with yours then cudos to Wicks! :D
I listen to this many times each week because it's a wonderful organ but Mr Helms is perhaps the best organist I have ever heard. He makes the organ give the best tone it has and is very, very talented. I wish he would post more Christian songs on the pipe organ. What a talen!! Does he have a CD or DVD?
I have never heard a better rendition of this wonderful old hymn. Hopefully, I can get some information on happenings like this in the Pensacola area so that I may attend. Just keep on posting such glorious things for those of us who do not have immediate access to pipe organs and organists might enjoy. I wish there were some centralized bulletin board where events like this were posted. I would have driven the 100+ miles of Pensacola to have heard this concert. Mr Helms is a great artist.
He is currently the music director at St Pauls in Pensacola, where he also is the organist. I had the opportunity to play the organ their before it was installed in their new facility.
Jonathon thanks for posting this absolutely fabulous video. I don't know if you communicte with Thomas but if you do please pass on for me that he is an awesome organist. Also the organ is a magnificent instrument. You are so lucky to have these type of concerts in your local region. We have nothing like this here unfortunately. Also enjoy your playing on this organ. Best Regards, Roy
No its not a restaurant. Thats the First United Methodist church in Pensacola Fl. It was a program called Pedals Pipes and Pizza. Designed to expose young people to organ music. Didn't mean to make it sound like it was a pizza joint. Ha ha!
I have always hated pipe organs until now. Finally, someone that can make it sound to my liking.

So what's wrong with a Wicks organ? Some of their recent instruments are quite fine.
