The white tailed eagles are increasing in numbers lately in Sweden, after being almost driven extinct, poisoned by DDT in the 50s. By lake Takern they are now a part of the fauna again, I saw six individuals at once the other day. Hurra! Being in contact with lots of people around the lake, I've heard noone complaining about them, farmers nor hunters. Cormorants, ducks, geese, bitterns and ospreys may not be as happy, though!
See the petition against poisoning eagles in Eire, on The Golden Eagle Trust website. Sea-eagles were reintroduced to Scotland after centuries of persecution eradicated them there. They are being poisoned again in Scotland (law-suit in progress). Eagles of both sorts reintroduced from Scotland (and Norway) are poisoned in Ireland. Help to change this barbaric way of thinking and support these magnificent birds - sign the petition and spread the word. Thanks - on the birds' behalf.
Some farmers in Kerry, Ireland are repeatedly poisoning reintroduced white tailed eagles... out of fear. Farmers in Norway live in harmony with white tailed eagles.
Reintroduction programmes in Scotland have shown that local tourism benefits hugely from the presence of white tailed eagles. The WTG has been present in Kerry for 000' of years and are intertwined with local folklore. So Kerry people should stand up and be proud to invite the white tailed eagle home.

You can watch the White Tailed Eagle also in the Netherlands. They are breeding just 40 km east of Amsterdam in the Oostvaardersplassen.
