Some stores won't allow for the stop before reaching the doors, but if le is called, they will do it for them. There are vids on here showing stops in the stores. Do some research.

Firstly ryanrenesis you cant put 99 items in your bag and you dont have to leave the store before being stopped. A store owner can stop a person they believe has or is about to commit a crime. The basis of the person putting the items in the bag and moving them from their original location in legal terms is called asportation. This means they have moved the items with the implied intent to steal them. They can be stopped and detained. Thankyou.

Which means if someone stuffs a duffle bag full of blu-ray discs, they can just stop the person right there instead of risking them getting through the door. I'll tell you what, if I am hungry, poor and destitute enough to want/need to steal food from a store, and someone puts their hands on me in an attempt to subdue me or "bring me in", I would literally be at a legal right to defend myself and would do so accordingly. And believe me, it would be a horrid mistake on the accusers part.
You MUST be outside the business to confront someone for theft. Its law.

There is no law that says they have to leave the store. That is simply some stupid company policy. "Yes your honor I was just trying to defrost the steaks in my pants not really steal them." Concealment is the crime and the video is sufficient evidence the guy should have been taken down and cuffed!

Some stores won't allow for the stop before reaching the doors, but if le is called, they will do it for them. There are vids on here showing stops in the stores. Do some research.

Firstly ryanrenesis you cant put 99 items in your bag and you dont have to leave the store before being stopped. A store owner can stop a person they believe has or is about to commit a crime. The basis of the person putting the items in the bag and moving them from their original location in legal terms is called asportation. This means they have moved the items with the implied intent to steal them. They can be stopped and detained. Thankyou.

Which means if someone stuffs a duffle bag full of blu-ray discs, they can just stop the person right there instead of risking them getting through the door. And the thief still gets a grand larceny charge.
Stores don't exactly encourage this, of course, but they could do it.

@ryanrenesis Actually, this is not true in almost every state. If you conceal items with an obvious intent to steal, you've committed a crime and LP and police can detain / arrest you.
Most stores have the "wait until exit" policy to make certain that there was a theft so they have stronger evidence in court. But concealing with intent to steal really is a crime (in most, if not all states).

Pretend to be browsing the same section and they'll eventually leave. That way you stop them from stealing anything more and you keep yourself in check.
