Thanks for posting this, about the Kawai K1 - a cool synth when programmed optimally. The factory sounds are nowhere nearly as good as the K1 is capable of producing. The best synth patches for this classic synth can be found at manymidi.com
@DjCoranic The piano patch isn't so great, for a good rompler piano I'd go with the Emu Proteus - the sound is realistic but still has that 90's synth feel and gritt
The death of this synth begins with unresponsive buttons followed by initially erratic and finally uncontrollable joystick. Next are random keys. I can still power it up and connect a controller. I plan to to this as I want to sample the 256 classic K1II samples into my Halion plug and let my synth live on inside the computer.
@cocteaulover I agree with lownrgy. It was just honest. karenevil probably doesn't work for kawai and has no reason to lie about what this thing can do.
just got one of these o few days ago for 60 dollars. but i find that if the joystick is activated then when i try to chand waveforms the numbers start skipping and jumping eraticly. do you have any advide on how to fix this?? thanks
If it hasnt been fixed yet,and your o.k. with slight tech. work,It sounds like your ''stick'' has become loose on the inside, sometime these''sticks'' have screws holding them together on a gyro-cross..usually just a couple of screws to adjust. I am goona peep it out when my k1m arrives this week.(I hear they are easy to upgrade the memory batts with a socketed fresh one.)
In the past the K1 was a good and affordable start for keyboard players into the world of multi-timbral synthesizers. You can find just as much sounds for that synth as for the Yamaha DX7! Most of them try to emulate stuff from the Roland D-50 and the Korg M-1. But don't expect too much as the K1 lacks a filter section.
Well, one advantage it has over the Korg M1 is that it sounds alot more open (airy), minus that mid-rangey quality that is hard to eq-out when playing the M1.
I always thought the Kawai K1 criminally underrated.
nice music.. very Lino Banfi style!!

@natedavis777 That's wear and tear and is unavoidable. I can't program mine to save my life.

it doesn't show the abilities keeping the k1 famous, especially how the stick works.
for this demo you could take any standard digital piano instead.
