Here inUSA people buy it for cute statements which in this case makes little sense since cars mostly heavier and dangerious for cutie littlie binie cars.
Mat not only looks cool and handsome, but at the same time, always deliver comments in a lively, entertaining and friendly manners in the videos. Keep your nice hard work!
what is so revolutionary about this? the mini and the fiat 500 did the same things 50 years ago !!!!!!!! small, cheap, economical, had the ability to move a family !
If you want to carry 4 people and bags - buy something else, but use it as a two seater hatch and it's fine, with a third person option for when you need it. A smart can't do that.
Buy a second hand IQ and it hardly depreciates at all, wiping out the motorists biggest cost. With low running costs, great reliability, plenty space for two, a good selection of gadgets, and high safety standards, it's great.
@TheophilusPWildbeest I agree that there are some positives for this vehicle and if you live in a very dense area of a busy city where being tiny is most important, it makes sense. But for most everyone else, there are better small car choices that can carry people, actually allow you to take things home from the shops, won't get nervous at high speeds etc. It adds very little in the way of practicality over a Smart since those are two seaters with a reasonable sized boot and are cheaper.
@2003SCT It doesn't feel nervous at high speed, trust me, 200 miles at 80-85mph is no sweat (British roads). Crosswinds however do make you slow down a bit, same as any high sided lightweight vehicle.
I don't see how they expect these tiny cars to sell in big numbers when in the US, the Smart ForTwo goes for around $12,000. You can get a roomier, faster, better handling NIssan Versa for less than that. Their main advantage is their tiny size, but if that's not a deal breaker, there's really no reason to buy one, other than the novelty factor.
Buy the Toyota Aygo. It seats 4, has more luggage space, is more economical, is cheaper to buy and almost as easy to park. The iQ is a no brainer, more a low iQ.
@AndrewParkerTV well, it's not more economical, and almost 50 centimeters in terms of parking is a very big difference. Plus, the IQ is safer, and when you look at the price you need to consider standard equipment as well. IQ still is more expensive, but it's not as much as many think.
I agree that the Aygo would be a better choice for most people, because of price and space, but if those are not your top priorities, an IQ would be better.
@radu0gheorghe I do understand your point and that is fair enough. On the economy note, the Aygo has found to be more economical by many reviews. What Toyota say it will achieve is incorrect in the real world, their figures are from a rolling road in a lab. Aygo can have a diesel also. As for being shorter, the Aygo is 8 inches shorter than a Ford Ka, I used the Ka for a month and never had trouble parking despite being 8 inches longer than an Aygo so an iQ is overkill in short length.
@AndrewParkerTV I guess the parking and turning thing depends a lot on where you live. I drive a Fiesta and I find it easy to park where most cars won't fit, and it wouldn't be an overkill here to have an IQ. As for economy, I don't want to compare diesels with petrols, while "real-world" economy figures depend heavily on driving style. The IQ is a bit lighter and has a longer gearbox, so it _should_ be a bit better.
@radu0gheorghe Yes I think you are right. I live in Manchester, England and whilst it can be hard to find a space sometimes, it's not too bad. I guess places like London are pretty unique with so many tiny streets and huge amounts of vehicles using them. I suspect it would be suited to London pretty well, but outside there less so. The only reason I mentioned diesel is a lot of small cars I see now are diesels and the iQ still doesn't have the option.
@radu0gheorghe Just realised the diesel is no longer available, they are preparing for the replacement for the Aygo it seems. I gather this is out within the next 12 months.
@AndrewParkerTV I think we kind of agree that Aygo is better for most, while IQ is better for some :) And I think that's what Toyota wants, as long as they aren't on a loss with the IQ.
I really like watching these reviews, I just wished somebody reviewed cheap second hand cars, from a couple of hundred pounds to a grand with be ideal for somebody who is under 25 like me.
Welcome to the Toyota iQ review - our 100th video!

@carbuyer Hey CarBuyer! You have to review the new Volkswagen Jetta. I think the car is brilliant, because of the price, looks, the range of engines and the "luxury". I trust in Mat, he's a awesome car reviewer, so... I would be very happy if CarBuyer do that :-) And congrats for your 100th video review!

Wow, moiré galore at 0:37. Did you switch to a Canon DSLR to shoot your videos? I don't think this was a right decision.
As for the car, Toyota should sell it as a 3-seater with a luggage platform behind the driver and not bother with the reclining seat.
