  • Kampilan sword?

  • how heavy is a kampilan compared to a katana?????? please answer. if not than the kampilan is a waste of time

  • NOT kampilan sword play, wrong foot work. Look at Maguindanao or Maranao SAGAYAN for clues of kampilan sword play movements, better yet observe Bangsamoro SILAT(highly doubt it display to public especially christian public). Salam.

  • its not Kampilan its sword from spanish time

  • Thats Kampilan used by Lapu-Lapu ...

  • Kampilan dont exist during this time but Lapu-lapu using a stick what i hear to kill Magellan and in history filipino, indian target to kill magallan.

Now, I know that Monsieur Yuli Romo was a very good friend to John Philippides Blancia.

  • @MegaNewlook Kampilan was used at that time. It is mentioned in Pigafetta's biography of Magellan, and Pigafetta was there at the battle of Mactan.

  • spaniards only brought stupid rapiers and sabers moron!

  • @imoneslime Magellan's biography indicates they also brought arquebuses and their long pikes, which was the standard battlefield arms of that time period.

  • is this really how to weild a kampilan? kinda look cumbersome to me... i've seen all of the weapons of arnis and how to weild them except for the kampilan sword...

    LONG LIVE ARNISADORS!!

  • lol, kampilan is not a weapon of arnis. read here:

    kampilan, barung, kris = moro

garab, pinute, binangon, tenegre, sansibar = eskrima

  • yeah, i know its of moro origin but its included in arnis/eskrima/kali list of weaponry. i dont know why you said its not included. would you elaborate?

  • moro fighting system = silat

    visayan/luzon =arnis/ eskrima

watch the way yuli moves. have you ever seen that in your arnis/eskrima curriculum?

  • no, not yet.

  • oh thats brilliant, i think that kampilan is much taller and heavier than me... i will surely fall if i handle it... hehehehe. thanks for posting this video. and please fellow FMAers, let show respect to the arts, grand masters, masters, practitioners, it is after all FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS.. everybody is unique and has got his own way of promoting the above mention art... so MABUHAY ang FMA!!!

  • Hi!!! Yuli!!! First of all!!! Im Gloria Blancia the small sister of John who taught you. Good job: coz i understand now why you are always came at home to pick up my brother John. Im always call the attention of my brother that Yuli is there waiting you. Now!!! you are Grand Master::: I told you directly!!! you are too far when it comes to Samorai Blade of my brother John. Im sure you understand still you are practitioner not to be a Grand Master thanks.

  • good day... its not a samurai blade. its a kampilan. samurai is the person who uses a katana. do a research first before posting a comment.

    peace.

  • Reasearch for those people who need more knowledge. I Knew that sword coz since i got 5 years old i hold already the real sword as heavy as taller as i am when i was a kid.Much of different sword, samurai, knives and many more the things of my Grand Master Angel L. Blancia but it was lost and stolen that is happen.

  • oh i see... so for you kampilan is the same with a katana. i guess you have more knowledge compared to other people since that's how describe the kampilan in which gm yuli romo is using in this video.

  • You have no skill, only shame!

  • @shihanmph kampilan is just as light and has a more powerful chop then a katana, this should be the best sword in the world

  • @copypacercopypacer The Katana is solely purposed to be used for war, while the Kampilan, is meant to either chop 2 heads at a time(as an example of its power), or serve a a multi-purpose blade. Most likely also due to vast superior weapon forgery, the Katana will be more powerful than the Kampilan, but like I said, the Katana is not meant as multi-purpose sword, so thats a little of a drawback, but this is not to say both swords can evolve to fit both these

  • @ThtOnePinoy the kampilan is not a multi purpose weapon, and is known to cut more than just two heads. i have a muslim friend who is moro and used to use the kampilan back in his old days. I remember he had a granpa back in ww2 that sliced a damiyaos body completely in half during his days when the japanese were trying to take over. I havea japanese grandfather who also told me how there were blades such as the kampilan that could do just as much cutting power or more than a katana.

  • @copypacercopypacer I was told a Kampilan has more uses than a Katana, but the Katana has more power. Hmm, perhaps the evolving of the Kampilan has came through faster than I thought, or perhaps this is something that has been debated before... Regardless, this does not change the fact of just how powerful the Kampilan is, and interesting... I never heard of daimyos going overseas, or if they even existed during the 1900's anymore...

  • @ThtOnePinoy damiyos do go oversea and came to the philippines before and during ww2. however only very few came to help the imeperial japanese army and after a few incidents, hey completely stopped. also the kampilan is very powerful, however, it will always depend on the person

  • @copypacercopypacer That is pretty interesting, I never even knew they existed anymore at that time...

Hmm, replying to your profile, I don't know whether Kali is the earliest, but to be honest it's certainly better than Eskrima or Anris :P besides, these 2 weren't the first either, and also this name Kali in particular is derived from Silat and Kuntao combined, and the Visayan "Ka-Mut Li-Huk"(hand motion). I will link you an article about it.

  • @ThtOnePinoy it is the earlist, its been developed in the usa. i don't think kali is better than eskrima because eskrima goes way more tradional and more developed in the philippines than kali is. kali is the earliest martial art in FMA. the oldest would be silat. eskrima is the oldest christian filipino martial art

  • @copypacercopypacer I am not sure whether christianity is relevant, but I do know for a fact that neither Eskrima nor Arnis were the original terms, they were misnomers. We practiced these fighting styles long before the Spanish showed up, we're on the other side of the world, so how in the world would we be able to suddenly use their terms???

Btw, Silat and also Kuntao was practiced. Silat is from Indonesia.

  • @ThtOnePinoy silat is a south east asian martial art. it did not originate from indonesia. silat was the martial art for people of the malay penisular such as philippines, malaysia, indonesia ect. i dont understand wat u mean by eskrima and arnis are misnomers. kali is just another FMA made from eskrima and arnis but being developed in the usa by a filipino

  • @copypacercopypacer Didn't you read the article I showed you? I don't think there are sufficient evidence still for Kali being original, but there isn't sufficient evidence to PROVE it wasn't original either, what do you expect, history for us is hard to come by! What is undeniable fact is that Arnia and Eskrima both are not the original terms.

Sorry I meant to say it came from much from indonesia, you should know just how much is part of Indonesia now.

  • @ThtOnePinoy the article u showed me, i don't think that the information it says is true. some of it is but where it came from doest. ur still wrong not much of it came from indonesia. the original martial art of the philippines was there own silat. the reason why the word silat is so famous in the malay region is because there was so much trading in the malay region and there language was basicly the same, until some changes occur and i know that eskrima wasn't the original term

  • @copypacercopypacer many people say silat was created in Indonesia, but whatever, I don't know the accuracies of those claims, but for the fact it is practiced in Indonesia regardless.

There is no sufficient evidence to prove whether Kali was the original term or not, personally I think this should be researched more, just like every other one of our history that is being left unattended... Stupid govt.'s ignorance...

  • @ThtOnePinoy silat never just came from indonesia, i have no idea wat stupid person told u that but its not true. silat is also practiced 24/7 by moro people in the southern philippines. in fact the same friend that told me about the kampilan and samurai incident was in competetions in his younger age using mindinao silat from the philippines and defeated many pencak silat and myammer silat users. kali isn't the original at all. eskrima and silat are the closes things to the old martial art.

  • @copypacercopypacer I said it exists also in indonesia...

That's what im trying to tell you is that the Spanish did not name it, and shouldn't be allowed to do so, you have no proof that Kali was never the original term, just as there isn't sufficient evidence to prove it is too, so it's best not to make any assumptions, and in my honest opinion I would still use Kali than Arnis or Eskrima.

and once again they also practiced Kuntao

  • @ThtOnePinoy yes they practice kuntao and kuntaw. kali, eskrima and arnis really have no difference, i have trained in kali and eskrima. i have stuck to eskrima and i still don't see any really difference except the history of them. thats about it. even kuntaw has no real difference

  • @copypacercopypacer Yeah I was told there was no real difference, even the "regional" name calling isn't true as far as I know, at least, it's still the same martial arts, with just different evolutions, such as Sinawali, double stick method.

  • @ThtOnePinoy i don't know who told u the kampilan was a multit purpose blade but its not. it was made for war, it is a war weapon and shouldn't be used to due other things unless u have no respect for the sword.

  • @copypacercopypacer Much people say this, regardless it's core reason is for war nontheless, and no doubt whatever they were talking about that was multi purpose was definitely war related.

  • @ThtOnePinoy what exactl do u mean multi purpose...like halberd multi pupose or like tools use for surving like the hatched multi purpose...

  • @ThtOnePinoy do u mean multi purpose like what i can do in war or multi purpose as in like chopping vegetation and stuff

  • @copypacercopypacer I believe they most likely meant what you can do in war, like I said.

  • @ThtOnePinoy its just that when the spanish came. spanish was the some northeners lingua franca, which is y they call THEIR martial art eskrima....btw the spanish didn't name it. the filipinos did

  • @globastien you are a fake!!! maybe your brother is legitimate but I've seen your videos here on youtube, claiming all these grandmasters, even my own (Al Dacascos), are students of your father. GM Yuli is a grandmaster of Ilustrimsimo Kali so whatever your comments about others, you shouldn't block those who are critical of all your false sayings on your own videos.

  • @unclebraddah hey question............for the kampilan, do you use the curve side ( heavy tip ) for chopping or the straight side

  • Very well demonstrated. The spanish rapier/chinese sword combination is represented fully in this demo. Good job!

  • Mabuhay sa magkapatid na ROMO'S We also thankfull for the hospitality of Pamantasan Lungsod ng Valenzuela...fr. Italian National Team 2008...hope to see you all again maybe next year...

  • who talk non-sense of master yuli don't even realize the heart and pride of a true warrior, i am a student of his and if anything ill-words thrown at him... well, it's such a shame that a person of a good discipline talks like that... meet you in person and let my hans do the talking... wish you good health master!!! phillip roxas_plv virulent tigers..

  • master this is phillip i hope to learn more a lot from you... gusto q matuto sa inyo!!! salamat sa lahat ng suporta at kaalaman na binahagi nyo sa'kin,,, ituturo ko sa mga interesadong sumunod sa atin bilang arnisador... thak you po!!!!

  • just from a common person's point of view but he looks a little slow. However I've been to a few martial art conventions and well, i guess i was expecting some flashy hollywood tricks. O well i bet the kalis is pretty heavy and he seems more on moving his feet then the sword. Yuli doesnt need a sword to kick some1's ass!

  • its a war dance, ofcourse its slow.

  • i am a mindanao my ancestors fought with barong and kampilan sword against the american soldiers, ive seen Datu Phiangs son playing the traditional kampilan. masters Yulis handling of the kampilan is perfect! we usually do not divert and redirect the swinging force of the sword because its too heavy on the front, it is use for slashing but they way he does it take a lot of foot work and hand skills! Respect for the master! unique methodolgy

  • If you don't like GM Yuli's methods, that is your prerogative..but all this negativity you're spewing can't be doing yourself any good. If you feel so passionately about the issue, then go to Luneta and air your complaint in person with GM Yuli - because this medium is not the way.

  • show and theatrics, wrong handling but dressing like pirates to impress the ignorants

  • good day chieflapulapu... whats the correct handling of aa kampilan. post a video that your handling the kampilan correctly.... dont talk show it....

  • uhhh...is this how a kampilan should be used?i mean, i'm into the whole spada y daga, dual bolo usage and all...but i've never seen a kampilan being wielded..

  • This is Master Yulis interpretation of kampilan. People need to realize that how one manifests movement is inherent only to self. So many merely mimic as opposed to creating what works for themselves through solid methodology, hence a gilded box!

  • Ya!!! Really awesome? Awesome stupidity more likely. I've seen better demo by a ten year old student of arnis. Seeing Yuli Romo's exhibition made realize that he doesn't know what his doing. When he wields the kampilan he seems uncomfortable using this type of weapon. He's more concern with posturing than the actual demonstration. HE SHOULD BEEN A FASHION MODEL rather than a master of kali illustrissimo, he's a DISGRACE to the name. My advice don't do anymore EXHIBITION or he might get hurt.

  • Your blatant disrespect speaks volumes of your persona. You obviously do not understand that this is a demonstration of the cultural aspects of Kampilan methodology. Your disrespect toward Master Yuli also shows your disrespect for Tatang and all the other people Maesto has trained with. If you are such an authority perhaps you can enlighten the world with your expertise, or is this a veiled attempt at attention? I would suffice to say it is the latter!...You are what is wrong in the FMA!

  • if you understand what a "KAMPILAN" weapon is. you also know that it came from PANAY not in CEBU or elsewhere. i only commented his use of the SWORD! NOT THE ENTIRE SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRISSIMO. I AM A KAMPILAN MASTER OF PANAY AND I UNDERSTAND ITS USE. You are a foreigner who just studied ONE SYSTEM and YOU CALL YOURSELF AN AUTHORITY OF OUR CULTURE. I AM A STUDENT ALSO OF THE ART.

  • Your arrogance is your defense mechanism I see. Re-read my post..if you do not see how your venomous words spew rhetoric then perhaps your persona is comfortable in ambiguity! You know nothing of me so your asumptions are a moot point, as is this entire conversation!

  • Its not arrogance, I'm stating a fact. You're the one who can't handle the truth. You remain blind to it. It is useless to listen to those who would not listen to you. Go ahead, live in ignorance if you like that. Let me repeat what you have said to me. "RE-READ MY POST!!!!!!!"

  • I'm not being arrogant. I'm just telling the truth. You're the one who is arrogant and remained blind to the truth. You want to wallow in ignorance, fine by me. It's foolish to listen to those who would not listen to you. Let me repeat your comment. "RE-READ MY POST!!!!!!!!!".

  • As I said, a moot point!

  • You ignorant piece of Monkey Crap, have you met Maestro Yuli personally? Spar with him before you run your bigmouth, you sack of shit !!!!

  • if you are a kampilan master post your video and dont talk show it to the world that you are a KAMPILAN master......

  • @reypalz in a real fight, would this be a good choice of weapon

  • @reypalz was the kampilan also used by non muslim anamists???

  • well said, this is a joke.........

  • good day..... you talk to much tsubamedenki... if you think your better post a video with the use of the KAMPILAN.... dont boast to much maybe you will fall... if you think your to good for master yuli go to valenzuela or set a place and time and then prove yourself in front of master yuli romo that you are a man of deeds not in talking only...

  • The truth really hurts doesn't it? I'm a 36 generation panay master of the Kampilan. Come here at Mambusao, Panay. Meet my family. Then, let's settle this according to the "traditional" challenge of our ancestors. I welcome you to TRY!!!!

  • My original reply to your message was one born of anger, but now I just have this to say, if you are going to be negative and insulting why not leave that bad energy to yourself. I have had the privilege of meeting true masters and have noticed they're the most humble and kind people, Your anger and need to bring people down speaks of your true character. So I refuse to justify your remarks further. Why not just love the art? Stop the anger. All you do is insult people. That's just sad.

  • awesome! salam from indonesia

  • that's GM YULI ROMO in a kampilan moro dance. i already tasted how GM YULI works for a kampilan and teach the technique in live blade.

  • a moro war dance? tsk tsk tsk.....

  • romo is moro, yes thats a moro war dance, what a great demo dance, so proud of him, mabuhay!!

  • I've seen GM Yuli take a 6'3" 200+ lbs German to the ground back when he was still w/ Tatang in Manila. I guess the German didn't know who GM Yuli was & was just trying to 'test' him. Surprise, deutsch!!!

  • mabuhay ang Pilipino at ang ating kultura!

  • I can see you!!! Mas maganda ang mga galaw ni Master Elmer Ybanez at Mang Ben. You should get your eyes examine.

  • Get my eyes examined? Im sorry I don't understand your comment;)

  • Ang tanong ko, kaya ba nila si Maestro Yuli? Sang lupalop ba nanggaling yang pinagmamalaki mo? Bwakang Ina mo !!!!

  • OH MY GOD!!! You are unbelievable! I have seen these two SUPPOSED masters you are talking about and they are not even in Yuli's LEAGUE... You are just a negative loser who has nothing better to do than post negative comments on the internet. My advice - GET A LIFE!

  • prevailing truth is for the people who are lier for all timed.. You too get life ...Coz until the end you can survive...

  • hello, yuli galing mong sumayaw ha nakakatakot ka as melay said my uncle is very dangerous !!! but take care he's my tito yuli talaga !!! he is popular in balangkas manila , and now in my school..at St. Sernin!!! good luck tito!!!see you very soon....melay forever!!!moauhhhhh, bisous
