@djypsydjazz Thank you! I worked at the harmonies quite a long time before deciding on these ones. For some reason I always get shivers up my spine when I play the last few seconds. Don't know why!
This is beautiful! This particular rendition of it is particularly sweet to me and I find it something that will often stop me when I'm painting... provides lovely inspirational moments before I get back to my work. The video is very well done, too!
Great playing as usual. I see you playing the Ravenna. The sound system is perfect. Running through any processes? Dusty should use you as a commercial :-)
@celticmodes Thank you! I recorded the dusty from about 5 feet away using a Zoom H4n recorder, then added a tiny bit of the building reverb to match the distant video picture. There is a small pickup in the harp to add a bit of bass via a portable amp, but this is really subtle and hardly noticeable. I find the Ravenna works really well but can be slightly light in the bass if you use the screw-on stand, as I was using here. So it's pretty much as it sounded in the building on the night.
@MarkHarmer Thanks for the pointers. I've got a good portable amp and a Zoom H4. I'll use them mixed next time I want this kind of quality. Top notch stuff from you, as always.
@harpways Thank you - that's a great compliment! I try to "live with" the melodies for a while before working out an arrangement, and I describe it as "getting myself around the music" - so it is as much mine as Carolan's
@harpzouki That's a compliment indeed! Thank you so much - although I have to confess I don't know Derek Bell's version of this particular piece. Off to look it up!!
@TheWhistleCollector Aha - that sounds like my next challenge then! And as mentioned in the video notes, thank you again for introducing Carolan's Farewell to Music to me via YouTube. It's come to be my favourite!
This is such a beautiful arrangement. I had tears in my eyes.

Charming and sensitive. The performance sounds as though it is truly "coming from within."

Beautiful, Mark. I would be hard pressed to say whether I like your version or Derek Bell's better. Great nuance and expression.

Impressive as always Mark...Perfect!!!
I strongly recommend a performance of Captain O'Kane, one of the most deep and emotional songs of O'Carolan...
Thank you very much!!!!
