In November 1978, President Carter named the Bilderberg group's George Ball to head a special White House Iran task force under the National Security Council's Brzezinski. Ball recommended that Washington drop support for the Shah of Iran and support the fundamentalistic Islamic opposition of Ayatollah Khomeini.
According to President Cater, an amalgam of three distinct forces had combined to prompt his declaration of U.S. Policy: the steady growth and increased projection of Soviet military power beyond its own borders; the overwhelming dependence of the Western democracies on oil supplies from Middle East, especially Iran; and the press of social and religious and economic and political change in the many nations of the developing world, exemplified by the revolution in Iran.
His Administration concluded that American interests in the Persian Gulf were under grave threat. The Shah had to go, and the evil Islamic-fundamentalist Khomeini should replace him. In return, USA and UK would buy crude oil for a fraction of its value from the Islamic Republic of Iran. But, 32 years later, we have to pay for his incompetent. By the way, After 1980, oil prices began a six-year decline that culminated with a 46 percent price drop in 1986.
One more thing, the Shah of Iran was accused (by Carter) of torturing few hundreds prisoners. Under the banner of promoting human rights, Carter made excessive demands of the Shah, threatening to withhold military and social aid. Carter pressured the Shah to release "political prisoners", whose ranks included radical fundamentalists, communists and terrorists. Many of these individuals are now among the opponents we face in our "war on terrorism".

Carter's Iranian ambassador, William Sullivan, said, "Khomeini is a Gandhi-like figure." Carter adviser James Bill proclaimed in a Newsweek interview on February 12, 1979 that Khomeini was not a mad mujahid, but a man of "impeccable integrity and honesty." The shah was terrified of Carter. He told his personal confidant, "Who knows what sort of calamity he [Carter] may unleash on the world?"
Gen. Robert Huyser, Carter's military liaison to Iran, once told me ( Mike Evans) in tears: "The president could have publicly condemned Khomeini and even kidnapped him and then bartered for an exchange with the [American Embassy] hostages, but the president was indignant. 'One cannot do that to a holy man,' he said."
Carter believed then and still does now is that evil really does not exist; people are basically good; America should embrace the perpetrators and castigate the victims.

The Shah and the Mullahs were/are both DICTATORS! Why support any Dictatorship?! The Shah was a dictator (according to Reagen: "he did our bidding") and HAD TO GO! The Mullahs are dictators and oppressors and THEY HAVE TO GO! But, in both cases, under Iranian people's terms! Get out of Iranian's business once and for all!!

@dforenkid2,Only an ungrateful idiots or traitors would compaire the progressive moderniser Shah with the British backed terroist Mullahs.The way U talk as if Iran was a democracy before the Pahlavis.We had as much freedom as we could handle.Never forget that Shah's reign was at the time of the cold war.USSR had great influence inIran& they wanted to annex us.The Shah also battled with the Yanks & the evil Brits.If the Shah did any bidding was only for us Iranians.Everything we have is from him.

Carter implemented US policy to overthrow the Shah. Shah was going to let the deal with the consortium run out. He wanted to put the contract to bid to sell Iran's oil at market price which was 3 to 4 time higher than the price of the day. US thought that by supporting the Mullahs they keep the price of oil down. US succeeded in keeping the price down but US did not project the danger that fanatics pose to the world. Now, the world is paying the price for Carter's blunder.

carter was one man and a peanut farmer ,,you need to look to his advisers, staff and lobby groups that .promoted ousting the Shah.Jimmy carter has worked so hard after his presidency for democracy and human rights that from the bottom of my heart i forgive him.he has realized his mistakes and today is against lobby groups that advised him to to do away with the Shah.His book Israel peace not apartheid shows that he knows ,,the cause of many problem in the middle east.,,,,ISRAEL,,.,,,,,

@fraizer57 No ,I am just being realistic look to the date at the beginning of this clip, the push against the shah started way before carter came in to the white house in 1976.there is also a shah interview with mike Wallace the shah is speaking against ISRAEL,You can not simply put all the blame on one man ,if any thing jimmy carter was just following US foreign policies passed on to him BY GERALD FORD .Since 1982 carter has done so many good deeds.and by actions, he has shown where he stands

@kiaaan420, Indeed the push against the Shah started in 1963 When JFK with the backing of his insane brother Robert insisted that Khomeini & Gen Bakhtiar should join to overthrow the Shah. Jews were angry because the Shah helped SADAT by giving him the oil in his war against Israel. Begin was over the moon when Khomeini returned to Iran. One thing sure Carter has done no good in his life all he does is for publicity. The mother fucker is in bed with HAMAS Castro Chavez & ignores Mullahs crimes.

On July 27th 1980 the day the Shah of Iran died & on the treatment of Carter towards the Shah, Governor Ronald Reagan said that "WHAT WE DID TO THE SHAH OF IRAN WAS A BLACK PAGE TO THE HISTORY OF AMERICA". Both Carter his criminal adminstration & the evil Brits have blood on their hands. The overthrow of the Shah might be a taboo subject in the west but it is not their best kept secret amongst the long suffering people of Iran. Carter should be tried & imprisoned as a genocidal murderer.
