  • SETI will never work because:

1- radio signals from other solar systems arrives here completely blured

2- radio waves were only used by humans because we are too much stupid to use a much more efficient way

  • Anyone truly open minded about looking for ETs would investigate UFOs here on Earth and the obvious cover-up that's been going on for a long time. (That's no conspiracy theory, that's a fact.) People that say 'ETs couldn't get to Earth because of the distance' are assuming that no ET race could possibly have a greater understanding of science and space travel than we do, a narrow minded and staggeringly arrogant theory. Some ET races could be millions of years ahead - imagine what they'd know.

  • WHat a total waste of money

  • seti have searched just a gold fish bowl in our galaxy compared to all the oceans of planet earth just a stones throw in comparison 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001% of our total galaxy if there is anything anyone else out there we have a long way to go, i doubt in our life times we will be any closer to finding out that earth is very special, not a freak of nature just quite rare, maybe our childrens children will find the answers.

  • I found a triplet (three signals evenly spaced) using SETI@home for a day on BOINC, each one was exactly 10.00x stronger than the background noise and the distance between the signals was 1.314 (reverse 1.3 and 14 and you get 3.141 = the first four digits of pi) I think the search is over...

  • if there really are aliens do you think they are going to use this primative crap..... NOOO.thats why we will never know because they dont use fm radio.

  • @mikef823 what about radar?

  • why search for life, when you can recreate the entire universe inside a computer.

base it off proven algorythms and you have a dupliction of the universe inside a computer.

immerse yourself in this universe and explore it.

species all over the world are doing this because they are unable to explore the real universe physically. they have given up.

mankinds truly progressive role, is to successfully experience conciousness externally, and permanently so they can leave there original body forever.

  • SETI is never going to find life out in outer space. WE are the only physical; beings in this universe that fell to Satan. ever since the fall of man the stars even die. Revelation 21:1King James I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.Isaiah 65,17For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. wWe are the only physical beings in this universe.

  • @kobidobidog

    Hehehehe.... Christians are funny idiots.

  • @CommissarASSHOLE The once who preach of eternal hell, and an unequal god of war being terrorist of the west for the gay, zoosexuals, nudists whoever I agree, but they do not preach the truth about a God who risked to die eternally by coming to earth in the form of a Man named Jesus. This love will be contemplated throughout eternity, and we will not fully plum the depth of that love.

  • @kobidobidog I want to call you something, but I think it's illegal.

  • @JugglerPLL hate should be illegal, in heaven hate will be illegal. Sex is a fact on this planet of sex. Man did not make it so man is in error to try to regulate it. Those that are persecuted are godly. even as Jesus is godly, 1 Corinthians 11:31 ;K J B,For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 2 Timothy 3,12, Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. Saul is persecuting the zoo, and, need to be a Paul to stop persecuting Jesus in those humans.

  • allien civilizations propably use so much sensitive equipment that they comunicate far beyond of our availability to even detect their signals

  • Wouldent they use some sort of FTL communication ie: tachyons or something?

  • @factsonlyplease1

That is what I myself believe, mate. Aliens shall be using some kind of different communication.

  • Seti should trade in their telescopes for some good microscopes and look at all of the information and messages contained in DNA. Here is the evidence for intelligence. God.

  • I must be looking for something; something so sacred that I lost. But the ocean is wide and it's too hard to cross. I look up in the night standing on the shore to try and find exactly what it is I been looking for.

I know I'm searching for something yet to be defined and hopefully one day it will be with all of mankind. In the middle of the night I look up searching for something; something so sacred that I lost. But the ocean is wide and it's too hard to cross.

  • All you have to do is go out of body astral project to where aliens are sit down in lotus position (old Indian trick) and just put out your hand to talk. You listen and they think and show you pictures and feelings and stuff they think you want to hear or they want to tell you. Why bother with words. Just start listening. This works I do it a lot sometime aliens don't want to talk. Sometimes they just want you to show them stuff. How many people can think with pictures?

  • that is somewhat of a gross exageration, astral projection is difficult for those that are attached to the material world. don't expect to astral project if you like alcohol, drugs, tv or sex in excessive amounts. heck even small amounts of those things can stop you. besides aliens are just like us, they're just more evolved in certain areas. far better to strive for enlightmened.

  • 'What is the purpose of the Universe?'

  • this question is redundant, if you do not believe that the universe is aware of itself, but know that we are a part of the universe and are aware of ourselves, at least a small part of the universe is conscious of itself. we ourselves do not have purpose and are just part of a cause and reaction reality. if we can determine that we, the part of the universe that is conscious of itself has no purpose, it is plausible that the unconsious part of the universe has no purpose either.

  • what are the chances of intelligence life emerging in the milky way galaxy? I know the drake equation says there should about 20,000 in our galaxy alone but we haven't heard from anyone!! Hasn't this SETI program being going on since 1970? If we find a real signal from another galaxy then it would be very sad :( All galaxies are moving away from each other so we would never get to meet

  • u r right! it would be very sad to hear a clear intelligent signal, but just like we have been leaking waves n stuff out deep into space 4 decades it will take lightyears to reach enybody so it will be very old signals we hear! its sad emotional stuff! yet extremely fasinating!

  • Sooner or later it will hapen, what that could mean to human´s filosofy?

how humanity will be afeccted or change?

humans need religion to explain it all, to be special, to follow one of our master programs "live all you can, and beyond" what if we realice that we are just a piece of the puzzle, a small piece of transforming energy, aware of it self

  • While this is also possible, it is highly unlikely. The universe was quite habitable even before earth began forming, so it would only be logical that similar planets were formed before earth and extraterrestrials got an earlier start. Looking at the "Drake Equation" ET contacting earth seems quite possible. One problem though is that we have only been emitting radio waves of significant power for 50 years so only aliens that are 50 light years away may have gotten our signal.

  • possible too, is we are the most advanced beings in the universe atm. yet another int' life form is at the 'stone age' of their development. in 50'000 years, we could be exploring the universe, and come across that planet. they would see us as -and we would be highly int' and advanced beings. my point is, WE could be the 'leading edge' of int' life growth univerally, whith other just starting, or yet to start. time and the universe is immense. human thought and concept is still in infancy.

  • Radio waves are so 20th century. Real advanced aliens don't even use radio waves. All the SETI equipment on the Earth won't even be able to detect advanced aliens.

  • Harvard is doing some "Optical SETI" work -- looking for things like nanosecond pulses that do not occur naturally in the optical/visible light bands.

  • Advanced aliens won't be that easy to discover.

I think the only way to find alien live is to go and find it.

  • I think a lot of it comes down to time. If we keep our civilization going and keep listening, sending out probes, building better telescopes, etc for long enough (100 years? 1000 years? 1,000,000 years? 100,000,000 years?) I think we have a good shot at finding something. Imagine if we kept our civilization going for a billion years -- surely at that point, if we are listening the whole time, the odds are in our favor. If we blow ourselves up 3 years from now, however....

  • And therein lies the answer to the most important of the unkown values of the Drake equation,

  • Good point. Imagine a cuban missile gone terribly wrong. We would have transmitted into space for 25 years. Good chanche signals gone before another civilisation get to the age of technology

  • @grogtgs how do u know? are u afriend of extraterestrial life forms?

  • @grogtgs..im hoping we make contact or are visted in my life time!!

  • @grogtgs how do we know aliens dont use radio waves? we still use morse code even though we have progressed through to digital mediums, as for aliens using radio waves, assuming advanced alien races are out there, assuming they are technologicaly advance3d, there science dept will be probably analyzing massive amounts of the universe including our primitive radio waves, a consistant signal will be piked up on whatever bandwidth we can detect it even if the actual signal is not a radio wave

  • @grogtgs If a civilization of intelligent beings would want to contact us, it would more than likely use a frequency band or a range of frequencies of radio waves, it doesn't just send out a microwave emission, there's also radiation, thermal, and infrared. So all of this combined, is searching the skies for signs of life

  • LOL! Keep puffing, see ya...

  • Cool. Also, remember that Pot goes good with what we were discussing. But then again, pot goes good with anything...

  • Just to make sure, you understood what I told you? I hope I explained myself to you well? See ya....

  • The process is analogous ot Abiogenesis and evolution. After life got started, I mean the first primordial piece of 'life' formed, it evolved into everything we see today. The same is roughly true of matter. After the first primordial hydrogen formed, after the B.B., it 'evolved' into everything else we see today (all the other elements we see, that compose molecules, and thus matter). The 'evolutionary process' for all the matter we see today is fusion. We are 'star Stuff' as Sagan said.

  • After the Big Bang, Hydrogen was the only element in existence (some helium existed as well I think). As the first stars formed, they created 'all the other elements' that are found on the periodic table (through fusion). All matter can be traced back to the 'primordial matter' (hydrogen) that existed after the Big Bang. After that, fusion (Stars) created all the other elements, that make up everything around us (not including Dark Matter).

  • I don't know the context of your statement. However, new elements are created inside of stars, many of which are much larger than our Sun, by a process called nucleosynthsis, which is a product of Fusion (the process that powers stars). Thus, new matter is created as hydrogen fuses into helium, that process goes on,until all the elements found on the periodic table are formed. Fusion isn't a 'chemical reaction' by the way. It's physics; not chemistry.

  • The most near Earth like planet is located 47 lights year from Earth in a highly ecliptic orbit around it's parent stars. Only optical spectrogpahy is capable of detecting it by focusing on the star. The second most near is about 78 light years distance.

  • "The most near Earth like planet is located 47 lights year from Earth in a highly ecliptic orbit around it's parent stars." We can't detect 'Earth sized planets' using indirect means (like spectroscopy). The Kepler satellite will be able to detect Earth sized planets. All the other extra solar planets found, are Jupiter sized planets (Gas giants).

  • So many years to see documentaries or read books - news about the phenomenon UFO, I have come to 3 conclusions: first: all the cases mentioned, it is not real. Secondly, there is at least a 0.1% needed more research and documentation. Why is there something. Third: The science has not seriously consider all cases.

  • Did you know that with the collective working of CPU Processors and download/upload speeds of all SETI@home users it equates to the second most powerful Super-Computer on Earth?

I'd say its a worthy cause.

  • @Jet

I think the intelligence that seti@home gives is rather disturbing. The loneliness of our intellect in the vastness of the universe suggests one of two things. 1) Intelligence is incredibly rare to arise in a species, maybe unique. Or 2) It tends to be in possession of radio technology only for a short period of time.

  • @Jet

That's why I worry about things such as the LHC more than I hope for an extraterrestrial signal, I'm cynical, I believe we run a greater risk of blowing ourselves up than we do of establishing contact with a distant civilization.

I also happens to believe that Icarus of Greek mythology is a valid analogy for how human economics and evolution works at the moment, given that the system has little foresight and is pushed only by immediate demand.

  • Seti and seti@home 4ever! :D

  • SETI for ever!!!

  • SETI fir ever!!!

  • For us to assume that we are the only intelegent life in the universe is not only proposterous, but arrogant. Considering the "so far " infinate nature of our universe . There are an infinate amount of stars out there , each capable of supporting life in their local planets. All that remains is the fact that our nearest star would take hundreds of years to achieve. The answers are definately out there

  • Actually there is no research that suggests an infinite number of stars although the number is unfathomably large. However, wether there are other civilizations would for one thing depend upon the probability of life arising at a planet, which is unknown to us. Ergo, whilst we know that there is a large space for other life to exist we do not know wether the probability of life occurring is large enough that life should reasonably have occurred elsewhere as well.

  • But is there research that show that the universe is constantly expanding? If that is true then wouldn't it be prudent to assume that new stars are constantly being created?

  • That is not the current cosmological reasoning, no. They have models of which I know only a little but the big bang was supposedly when it all happened.

  • @Jet

This second makes me wary of the progress of technology, because splitting atoms might only have been the humble beginnings. With exponentially increasing power of experiments, so to, reasonably, would there be an exponentially increasing risk of self annihilation given that the risk exists of which I can only speculate.

  • no - stars keep forming from gass yes but no new matter is formed.

On the other hand gravity has lost the battle with dark energy and the galazy continues to expand faster and faster

  • Stars create new matter (atoms) through nucleosynthesis, which is a product of Fusion (a process that powers Stars).

  • Consider that humans have only had the technology to communicate across cosmic distances for about 60 years or less then consider what percentage of the history of the earth this is. Then consider the time that it takes for any signal to cross these distances. Finally consider the average life span of a species. I have no doubt that there is sentient life elsewhere in our galaxy but the odds of us finding it are millions if not billions to one. The distances and times are just too much.

  • not with our current searching system no.. i dont think that mankind will find any intelligent E.T:s. but i believe that we'll find other life in our solar system, such as extremo files, that can live in extreme cold and hot places

  • I think it depends a lot on how long we keep trying. If we wipe ourselves out with our own pollution in the next 200 years, we probably won't find anything. If we keep searching (and keep civilization going) for the next 100 million years I don't see any way we could not find something.

  • I don't think seti will ever make contact, life on this planet is so complex, everything has to be just right (and i don't just mean oxygen and the sun), just because our planet has life doesn't mean there is life everywhere else. People don't even want to think about us being alone because it would be too errie. I know we're not the center of the universe but if there is by chance advanced life out there they'll come on their own terms not seti's.

  • FiliberkeNys, it's not sure that it was an intelligent signal. now they say that it probably just was a dying star, wich explains why the signal has vanished

  • Or a Quasar or comsic ray interference or gamma ray burst or x number of unexplicable crap that happens in deep space that we have a rudimentary understanding of that is only supported by theories. (eg We can't do all necessary tests on the function and form of a black hole cause its too far away to do anything etc.)

  • lol, yet the human DNA contained 3.4 billion nucleotides full of complex and organized information.

But the smart scientists are claiming there is no intelligent designer, God. Here they are looking for just seconds of organized and complex radio wave. ahahhaha

Even if we find complex and organized radio wave, it takes years and years to reply ahahha.

  • I'm picking up signals from Mintake sirs, 3rd star in Orion's belt, the one on the right..

  • Depending on the input, the number N in Dr Drake's equation would be between 10 and 10000 just for our Galaxy alone!

  • In August 1977, a real RADIO signal was detected by Dr Jerry EHMAN at the Big Ear radio telescope of Ohio State University. For more info search the internet for the Wow signal! The Big EAR site is now a golf course :(

I'm not sure if ET can receive our TV-signals as shown in the film Contact as I believe only strong satellite uplinks and strong radar get beyond our solar system...
