  • hey cap, have u played the watchmen vidoe game? if so, can u do a review on it if you find the time?

  • @XxDom23XX I haven't-- heard it was pretty much a mindless beat-em-up. Though I sorta wanted to, because I sometimes enjoy those!

    -CL

  • "Who watches the watchers?" *Puts in dvd* "I do."

  • I would love to see Rorschach prequel stuff. I don't think he's character that should just be left alone.

  • In my opinion , Rorschach wouldn't want to live in a world where everything is a lie, and because he feels that it would be a lot worse for him considering he knew the truth.

  • I interpret Rorscharch to be Alan Moore's criticism of Kantian ethics.

  • 2:11 I hate to be that guy, but... it's pronounced "Raysh" Al Ghul, not "Raws" Al Ghul. You have Batman TAS, Batman Arkham City, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and dozens of writers who have pronounced it at comic-cons to verify that Batman Begins got it wrong.

  • @VsxFedora Actually, the correct pronounciation is "Raws" Al Ghul as opposed to "Raysh". Batman TAS intentionally used "Raysh" instead because Bruce Timm and Paul Dini thought it sounded better than "Raws". And since Batman TAS's portrayal of Ra's Al Ghul is the first and most popular portrayal of the character outside the comics, everyone else just went along with it. So the correct pronounciation is "Raws" but everyone used "Raysh" because they're more used to "Raysh".

  • @FireFistShikamaru Even Denny O'Neil, who created Ra's al Ghul, pronounces it as "Raysh", but I've only ever heard the word "Head" pronounced as "Rrrahz" by Arabic speakers.

Also interestingly, "Ghul" translates as "Ghoul" not "Demon". Ghouls are a specific type of demon in Arab folklore. Translating "Ghul" as "Demon" would be like translating "Collie" into French as "Chien" which just means dog, and isn't specific.

  • @MrAStev I didnt know that about "Ghul". That's interesting.

I didn't know Danny O'Neil pronounced it as "Raysh". But if the Arab pronounciation is "Raws" then "Raysh" would be the English pronounciation (kinda similar to how Jesus' name is pronounced and spelled as Jesus in English but as "Yeshua" in Hebrew). Names are pronounced differently (and sometimes even spelled different) depending on the language so I guess both "Raws" and "Raysh" can be considered appropriate & valid pronounciations.

  • @FireFistShikamaru Nah, it's not really the same thing. "Jesus" is just an adaptation of "Yeshua" several generations down the line, "Raysh" is simply a mispronunciation of an Arabic word. There's no wide acceptance of that pronunciation, aside from the case of the character Ra's al-Ghul, and I'm willing to bet (what with him being created by non-Arabs) that it's simply a case of not knowing the right way to say it.

  • @MrAStev You bring up a good point then.

  • @VsxFedora Dozens of writers who don't know how to properly pronounce Arabic. The word "Head" is pronounced as "Rrrahz".

  • Wait..listening mid-review, i can't get my head around this fact: some Parents took their kids to see Watchmen? Wow...that's...mind-blowing...did the parents even read the paragraph, I mean, sentence(s) of the reason it was rated R?

Anyhow, I'm glad you thought that too Cap; i always thought that one of the reasons Rorschach let's himself die is because in this new world, he's nothing anymore, small and unneeded and wanted. Wow this review is great.

  • what do you think of them making watchmen 2 and is alan moore writing it

  • @morebeerful No, he won't have anything to do with it. There's talk about a prequel series, sounds like one-shots written by different people. No certainty on whether it's happening. I think they should leave it alone-- it's very, very much a stand-alone sorta piece and there's plenty of additional background with the "Under the Hood" portions that I don't see what a prequel would really add.

    -CL

  • @Geekvolution I agree, it's like making a sequel out of "A Christmas Carol": pointless; though I think "morebeerful" is talking about a DC concept called "Pax Romana", something about a modern-day context of the story with the original DC characters (Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, The Question, etc.).

  • my favorite character is night owl 2

  • did alan moore write batman the killing joke

  • @morebeerful Yep, he sure did.

    -CL

  • This is why I love your Superhero Rewinds.

  • 0:45 If anybody wanst a kid friendly version of watchman I suggest reading new teen titans issue 18#. It's even better know then it was back then because of Wally West saying at one point

,,Look what they did in Afghanistan and Angola,,

    Meaning the soviet union.

  • "Playing judge, jury and executions"

Am I the only one who thinks Judge Dread when Captain Logan said that.

  • this is called "part 4 in the title

    "

  • I do agree Rorschach is my favorite character in both the book and movie! But ideals I agree more with Knightowl 2 more! He's more level headed!

But in the world the Watchmen inhabit he is more the kind of hero they need as the criminals are on average Joker level insane! Basically the whole world is Gotham in Watchmen!

  • @BoooRatt The average criminal in Watchmen was not Joker level insane. Even the child killer seemed moderately sane. Rorschach and The Comedian are crazier than most of the criminals.

  • @AsokIntern He carved up a little girl and fed her to his dogs. Ok, he might no have been as self destructively insane as the Joker or Rorschach, but he was pretty screwed up! And there's a gang running around with a theme! Basically they're the Mutants From The Dark Knight Returns.

  • Say, Captain, considering that this review is broken up into parts, how much more research and work did you have to put into this than other Superhero Rewinds?

  • @misterjepaxe A *lot.* I've been working on this since a week before Christmas.

    -CL

  • Dr.Manhattan is my favorite. I totally understood his viewpoints.

Very fascinating character. "I am tired of Earth. These people. I am tired of being caught in the tangle of their lives." Love that quote.
