1 if you're going to the bathroom and don't want them to hear.

2. if you're going to sneeze REALLY loudly.

3. if you're listening to the conversation on the other line.

4. so you can make the other person think that their phone has bad reception if you keep hitting it while you say something.

5. you don't want people to hear your tourettes.
