They attended the same performing arts school, the Brit Academy in London (Leona Lewis and Jessie J attended that school also) but not at the same time (Amy was 4 years older than Adele). Adele, when she talks of Amy, tends to talk of her as a friend rather than a fellow artist.

You have this beautiful Angel singing and you have these people screaming while an emotional tribute that was important for Adele was going on.
