People get your facts right. Evanescence did not create this sound, not even close. The band that made as what you know 'Symphonic Metal' was mainly "Therion" (there were ones before, but this band majorly influenced Symphonic Metal to have others go in their footsteps). Therion majorly influenced the Symphonic Metal era, and of course was the top few bands that started Symphonic Metal. Nightwish and Within Temptation was majorly influenced by Therion. Evanescence had nothing to do with it.
@Snowburden perhaps, allthough Elegy did go into that field before them, wether or not its the first ever symphonic metal band is debatable, but it did have something to do with the start of this genre

I saw them when they played first in my city , when they where still unknown some years ago. I think it was like there 2nd or 3rd concert since there first album , was quite awsome :) it was like 50-70 sqaure feet but packed with like 500 man and completely solled out , was so awsome :) , Great memory ... would love too see them again later someday !

Actually Delain wasn't around before Ev. But it CAN be considered an off-branch of Within Temptation, thus having them as their inspiration. And WT was there before Ev. Technical correctness :3
Plus Evanescence doesn't sound anything like this. I mean, someone must have seriously bad hearing to think Ev sounds like any European Metal Bands. That's like saying Journey stole their sound from ACDC.
To me, Evanescence sounds like some Euro bands, but not for the reasons people think. It's the music itself. The lyrics hold meaning, and a darkness that other styles just can't grasp. That's why they seem similar. But the beats and technical aspects are completely different, I agree.
@meangirl6400 Evanescence were around BEFORE Nightwish and Within Temptation , Lacuna Coil was the only one before them, they got fame after 'Bring Me To Life' which was out in 2003 which confuses people! I love ALL of the above and also love Delain. These bands have similarities in appearance but not in music, maybe the odd song or two but still! Now, normally, I love Ev, but they didn't invent the sound, and I hate it when people act all snotty and claim that a band ripped off Ev when it's probably the other way around. Actually Delain wasn't around before Ev. But it CAN be considered an off-branch of Within Temptation, thus having them as their inspiration. And WT was there before Ev. Technical correctness :3
Plus Evanescence doesn't sound anything like this. I mean, someone must have seriously bad hearing to think Ev sounds like any European Metal Bands. That's like saying Journey stole their sound from ACDC.

To me, Evanescence sounds like some Euro bands, but not for the reasons people think. It's the music itself. The lyrics hold meaning, and a darkness that other styles just can't grasp. That's why they seem similar. But the beats and technical aspects are completely different, I agree.

@meangirl6400 Evanescence were around BEFORE Nightwish and Within Temptation , Lacuna Coil was the only one before them, they got fame after 'Bring Me To Life' which was out in 2003 which confuses people! I love ALL of the above and also love Delain. These bands have similarities in appearance but not in music, maybe the odd song or two but still! Just enjoy the ones you like and stop bantering on saying 'this band took this from the other' ALL bands have influences from other artists!

Evanescence started in 1998, search things up before you response, By that time Within Temptation was only Populair in The Netherlands within their first stages of the Album Mother earth and earlier songs.

The vocals are stunning. However, I feel like she could let her voice and self out more vocally speaking. There is something about her singing that seems to boil and tickle up and grab your attention.
I am going to keep listening to this amazing lady! I think she will go even farther with her voice.
