It's all about work ethics. The stupid drivers clearly used company assets inappropriately - a clear violation of any company policy. It's tantamount to sitting on a photocopier butt-naked, or using company time and computer for web-browsing, or using the company plane for a dinner date in New York.
that was my cuz in channel 4 that got fired he now works for a company or whatever that converts old movies to DVD's and they recape news channels when people want to see it again
It was never stated as being illegal, but the drivers do not own the vehicles and I am sure that is a breach of contract in participating in unsafe activity such as racing, not to mention the thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment in them which may have been damaged.
Dude try almost a million dollars worth of equipment... I'm a photog, and if this had happened at my station, my news director would have my head on a spike.
damn i was there an they wer going very slow but still to fire the guy? sheesh the whole reason they did this was to promote the safty of the citizens here in el paso to get off the streets an to be safe an they fired the poor man
And how fast could the darn trucks go, anyway? I'm sure they don't get zero to sixty very quickly. And I'm sure both drivers were careful not to go faster than the trucks could handle. It was silly thing to do, but to fire the guy over it is a bit much.
Believe me, they can go pretty fast with the powerful V10 engine. I've gone almost 80 m. p.h. in one of those TV vans before. Besides, those guys weren't driving any slower than they would be out on the roads among "civilians".
This got more publicity than anything the tv station could have done......the driver should have received a raise instead of being canned! Take him back, guys! dont be so up tight!
Yea and now your Triton-10 gets 2 MPG!

If that's an actual drag strip, then that's legal, who says news van drivers can't have fun?

@KazzRacer I agree, except if that was my 100,000 dollar van involved in something not covered by my insurance I would be less than happy.
