I haven't tried asking any Asian person besides the poster of the video, yes there is a China Town...but since Thailand is not in China, i didn't think it was appropriate to head over to China Town. Also, i thought that maybe the poster of the vid had a market that she's familiar with--in my city--where i may find EXACTLY what i need. Thanks for the link though, i have found one not too far from where i live :)
@TheBlackDhaliaAce@TheBlackDhaliaAce have you tried asking any Asian person you know where an Asian market is? Does LA have a China Town like every major city? google also works. Try: yelp.com/search?find_desc=asian+supermarket&find_loc=Los+Angeles%2C+CA
Brilliant, have always loved this soup and its totally great on one of those cold wet miserable days when you come home and tuck into a big bowl of this soup Fantastic.
I live in the UK in the County of Cornwall,we have a Thai resturant in the city of Truro called Chantek and they serve this soup and its superb. So having found this site I will be coming back for more and more and even more cooking lessons,Many Thanks.:))
@cool85ish Absolutely, but I've never seen this soup with shrimp before. Tom Yam Gung, however, is a soup usually made with shrimp that is often offered with Chicken instead. Let us know how it turns out.
Awesome, thank you so much! So helpful with the tips about where to get the ingredients, since I live in San Francisco as well! Thank you for your thorough instruction! :)
One of my favorite soups! I learned how to make it in Koh Chang. Just wanted to add that you can also take the lemongrass and really beat the whole stalk so its quite stringy then tie it into a knot for some great flavor and makes a nice decoration!
You did a nice job. You should come to East Coast, like Charlotte. We also have oriental store. Also we have mountains and beaches close by, like California.
@TheCookieMonkey Sure, as I said this is the special recipe. Usually you don't need young coconut for the regular Tom ka Gai. But if you don't want to add young coconut juice, you should add some chicken stock.
She means coconut juice.Coconut juice and coconut milk is totally different.Well, actually we don't understand what do you means. Thanks anyways for your comment :)
I made this and really impressed my boyfriend. I love the idea of putting it back in the coconut shell! It looks so great and the coconut flavor seems more distinct. Could you post a video on how to open the shell the right way? Thank you!
She reminds me so much of my younger Sister. She even speaks like my Sister.

Try it with a tomato, added with the mushrooms and chicken. Just slice into 4 pieces. Also, a few drops of red chili oil make it special
