How could anyone dislike this. This video is sad.The poor Hummer could of died.I saved a baby bird but it died because my cousin thought he was thirsty but he choked on some water.I yelled at her but she still likes me.This almost made me cry. I love it and i subed and i want to be ur friend.
@dfleite13 no my friend you haven't. i had a cat many years back who would bring her kills home, set them at the garage door, and wait around before someone saw her kill then she take it away and eat it. she would bring home birds, mice, rats, swear to god she brought home a rabbit and a ground squirrel at one time.
She even attacked a Pitbull once, ran out of the garage and latched on to his face; of course she had kittens at the time.
I found one the other day but I let him go because i figured his mom was around for some reason it gave me that feeling although he appeared at my footstep he was making noises as if trying to get another hummingbirds attention to him
I just rescued a baby humming bird...my cats were paying with it..Hes not that injured he just has a broken wing and cant fly...i dont know what to do with it..and advice? Please help...And where can you get nectar>?_?
We raised 2 hummers a couple of years ago after the mother deserted the nest. So wonderful for you to take the time to care for little Henry, however, if this happens again you'd be better to put him in a little open box nailed to the tree and let the mother look after him. If you do have to feed a hummer, there is a nectar that you can get for them that is full of the protien that they need to grow. What an amazing experience hey? Check out "pritchards hummingbird babies" 1 - 6 on here!
@cjpritchard39 once found one baby like this: I didn't know what to do and someone gave me some advice: Never give them HONEY. Just water and sugar and add some pollen. I didn't know what kind of formula I could give him and before I could he left...I don't know if I did the right thing though. :-(
@cjpritchard39 Thank-you that is good to know, as on the rare occasion I have had animals needing help i.e. a racoon I took to a wildlife rehab centre, but at anytime it could be a hummingbird or other kind of bird and I want to be sure to what is best for the bird. All the best.

You do realize you actually bothered a fledgling? The mom was there so you shouldn't have bothered it. Like when you took it in for the night, mom would've had it under control. That is what she is there for. She would've had the baby flying before dark. Unless there is no mother present you should never touch a baby bird. I help a wildlife rehabilitator and most of the birds we get in are fledglings people don't leave alone.
@Cferg69 I disagree....that baby was in danger of getting eaten by a cat.... or of not going into "hybernation" for the night.....he could have died of exposure. Putting him up in the tree in a small open box for the mom to care for would have been ideal, but I think it's wonderful that she took the time to care for this little guy! Big committment!!
@Cferg69 That's true but in my case, my cousin's kids having found a baby Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker over Xmas break with a washed out nest & not parent birds or siblings around took one in & called me to come & get it & I had to care for it for 3 days & then released it. They had called vets & rehabbers, and the one never showed up that they called that said he'd try but couldn't make it b/c of the holidays so I had to take up the task & thanks to my rehab books it got all the essentials.
@Cferg69 I sure did lose a lot of sleep too. That little woodpecker sapsucker bird never missed a meal & I kept it in a carrier, gave it a perch, mirror so it could see its own reflection & also began giving it dug up grubs, worms, and pinhead crickets and it hunted and ate them all after I weaned it off soft food. Luckily I had all the feeding equipment & spent a pretty penny on the foods it needed, a lot of reading on their care, & plenty of warmth went a long way & was released Xmas day.
@Cferg69 Twiggy is with other birds, had made a home in a tree way up high and hunts for food. (I think he is preparing to make a family of his own now.) I see and hear him every now and then outside but he won't approach people or any other animals than birds now b/c he is very independent & wild. You see I had put feathers in his nesting box which he would sleep in & then slept on his perch. He was in top condition upon release b/c he hunts his own food & I have a pic of him eating a grub.
i tryed to save a golden finch my own cat caught i was sooo pissed but i brought him to the vet as well as baby bunnies who fortunately it wasnt my cat
So the two douchebags who didn't like the video had to be the ones who lectured you on what a terrible thing you did..you fed the baby bird *GASP!* sugar water with dye in it! OH NOES!! YOU BABY KILLAH! And *horror of horrors!* you interfered with NATURE!!! HOW DARE YOU!
Wonderful what you did. He survived because you did the right thing by keeping him outside during the day and allowing him to be in his own environment. This kept him wanting to be free.
When you find a baby bird that has fallen out of the nest, if you know where the nest is, you can put it back. That is the best thing to do. It's difficult to rehabilitate baby animals/birds because they need to eat so frequently. Looks like you guys did a good job, luckily it was old enough to not need constant feeding.
What did you feed it? My daughter found one today in the neighbors driveway. Flaps it's wings, and tries to fly...but can't. Chirps alot too. We have hummingbird nector (powdered kind). Gonna try to nurse it until it's strong enough to be on its own.
This is such a touching video. Great filming too I love how it was all filmed and narrated. I'm glad baby Henry learned to fly and met a friend. You have a lovely garden and Henry is very blessed to have such a place to call his home as well as have gotten the help he needed. =)
@Blizzed99 Birds don't have a good sense of smell (except for vultures), so it's a myth that a bird won't come back to its baby if it's been touched by humans.
that is so cccccccccccccccccccccccccccuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The video is so sad, because it makes me think back to Squidward being a feral cat with an illness. I helped my inclusion teacher with this situation. Squidward was a boy cat who is a domestic shorthaired cat. He went baldness where his head and elbows were bitten off by his birth sister. He looked like a little monk.
That was a total point... Did you know that Hummingbirds are called "Beijaflor" in portuguese wich means "Flower Kisser"? And they only visit the special people... Lucky You! God bless you...
That "friend" that he made was likely his older nestling that fledged before he did. Hummingbird eggs are laid a few days apart and this other bird was likely his brother/sister.
Cute but a bad idea. This young bird was likely at the fledgling stage and was a short time away from being able to fly. If a bird is out of it's nest and looks like that, with minimal flight capability and his mother returns to feed it, DON'T mess with it. Maybe somebody can help me! I live in the mountains of Colorado and hummingbirds are very common. Well, a few days ago, i found a young humming bird but old enough to fly on my sidewalk. She is missing half her feathers on one wing and cant fly. At the moment she is hanging out in a shoebox witha saucer of nectar. I dont know what to do! heLP!
Maybe some sort of website has information on how to look after humming birds? That might be a good place to start, maybe just search around on caring for humming birds
very very cool!we have two hummingbird feeders and each day more and more come...also,when it's very hot and dry, we water the nearby large plants and they go on to the wet leaves to wet their feathers...very sweet!
Very sweet. I am glad you didn't try to keep him as an indoor pet. I am sure he has learned to catch bugs as well as drink nectar. Put up a sugar water feeder. Maybe you can watch him feed from it! Hummingbirds can live for over 15 years. I hope you stay to watch your friend grow.
A baby hummingbird fell out of a nest at our neighbor's house about a week ago. It was probably pushed by its sibling. (They do that sometimes.) My daughter and I took it to a local rescue organization called "Fallen Feathers" here near Phoenix AZ. It's good to do this because these rescue organizations have access to special food for the babies. (They need more than nectar.) the sibling fledged a couple days ago, so maybe "our baby" did too. Check for hummingbird rescue in your area.
I Hope You Put Up A Red Hummingbird Feeder. Some Look Like A Circle Of Big Red Flowers With A Little Perch Under Each Red Fower. Red Dye & Commercial Food MUST NEVER Be Used To Feed Hummingbirds! Its Artificial Deadly Toxic & Will Kill Hummingbirds! 1 Part Of *Raw Organic Sugar* Should Be Dissovled In 4 Parts Pure Water & Put In Feeeder. & MUST Be Cleaned Every 3 Days Or Less. Mold In Feeder Will Kill Hummingbirds! NEVER Clean Feeder With Bleach Or Chemicals. Baby Never Learned How To Find Food!
