  • "Life is pain"? Life is obviously not pain. Pain is merely a signal that there is something wrong that needs fixing. When there is nothing wrong - inside or out - life is fun. Technology helps fix & prevent the things that cause pain - physical (illness, hunger, trauma, catastrophe) and psychological (isolation, insecurity, victimhood, tedium). Education also plays a role: a mistrained forms habits that cause self-inflicted misery. With the right technology and education, we can all be happy.

  • @73elephants

"a mistrained forms habits..." -- that was supposed to be "a mistrained MIND forms habits..."

  • ..makes me think of when some people say 'oh animals just are nasty and eat each other'. Err no, the play, and make lurrrve, and live life to the FULL ? tis your perception that sees it wrong

    GREAT video Oz!!

  • Have you read "The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect"? It's about a post-technopia world and addresses some of the problems like people shutting themselves off and only self-stimulating.

  • No, I haven't, sounds interesting, I'll have to see if the libraries have it. Thanks.

  • It was published online; I think there's a print version but self-published at lulu or something. Anyhow, google for the phrase: "metamorphosis of prime intellect" and it should be the first result, hosted at k5.

  • Ok, thanks, man, I will be having some time this holiday season to read it. =)

  • Technotopia = 666

The letters add up to 666 if you imitate the gematria of Greek and Hebrew by assigning A=1 to Z=800. I believe the two Satanic monsters of Revelation 13 in the Bible symbolize modern science and technology. The "image of the beast" described in Rev 13:15 is an AI made in the image of science, and it will rule over the technotopia created by man.

  • Weird.

  • Not exactly ...

  • You might want to check out Ray Kurzweil's writings to see how much of this is actually in the works. Also, check out the hedonistic imperative. Not saying I agree but there are people working to replace human parts with machine parts and people working to erase the human aging gene.

  • I know Kurzweil.

I'm all for the elimination of the aging gene, so long as it is an elective elimination. Whereby one literally pulls their own trigger to affect the change.

But the crux of the issue is quite simple and I think we agree ...

    No Earth .. No Humans.

  • yeah, no earth, no humans. i don't agree with playing around with the aging gene because of the negative effects so many other "wonderful advancements" have had.

  • You don't agree with playing around with the aging gene ...

    Alright ...

Do you know how many people die a day as a result of aging?

Every storm cloud has its silver lining. The cyclotron was a byproduct of nuclear science. We use it in the medical field to create radioactive isotopes for nuclear medicine.

  • This is something we're going to have to disagree on. I do not believe the tradeoffs have really moved us ahead or have improved things.

  • Yeah, we will have to disagree.

I don't see what is so alluring about the past that floats your boat ...

We CAN have intelligent, ecologically-conscious technology.

    That's where I'm at.

  • had to revisit

    great video oz

  • very cool

  • Thx. Hope it made you think. :p
