In 1969 Antwon Levay took over the Hotel California & turned it into the Church of Satan where they performed the black mass. The lyrics coincide with the church's tenet. The "beast" they try to stab is the devil, as quoted in the book of Revelation. "You can check out (suicide) but you can never leave". The church disbanded after the death of Lavey. Unknown if the building is still there. Note all the celebrities at the end died some type of violent death or drug overdose.
