To me that would be better than flying a 744 or a A330. No huge screens or long hauls just beautiful scenery analog controls and an exciting landing every time.
That's cool, but you should have seen it 20 years ago when I was there - same airfield but not sealed, so the plane had to negotiate rocky gravel, dirt and grass for a runway - now that was exciting!!
I want to rectify my runway length i just checked it and was suprised to find out it was 2000 usable and it grass strip in rainy season and dirt when it doesnt rain. my dad built the runway in 1992 or 93 but it has no slope and with a stock 182 is a reaaaalllll hard runway to fly. by about a mile and a half out if you dont go around your commited. you have to land
Nice runway easy compared to what i fly in mexico in a cessna 182. I used to fly one that now is destroyed by the military cerro de la bandera mexico 3000 ft long and 9200ft one way in one way out drops into a canyon 40 ft trees on either side. hard part in nepal is that everything around is 16thousand feet high
Wait till the friction cant hold the aircraft anymore and let go, then pull your nose up... how cool is that, this is like fighter planes taking off from a carrier ship, without the figther and the carrier ship!
Planes taking off from a carrier have a catapult to assist them. They should install a catapult/arrestor at Lukla so you can take a modified A380 there lol.
This village is the gateway to the Everest Base Camp..so lot of peoples come for trekking and everest view....in overall...popular tourist destination in NEPAL.
Well matter of fact i was at the Kathmandu airport waiting to take off for Lukla , when they said a plane had crashed..not a good feeling, but oh what a ride when we got there!!! those pilots are heroes every single day, they fly by visual, one pilots tried to push the envelop and failed....
I salute nepalese pilots for this kind of bravery flights which they make every day and risking their life. I hereby declare, Nepalese pilots are the worlds most courageos pilots, dont believe?? U BET !!
Of course these pilots are brave, but they have a great responsibily to there passengers. There job is to balance risk, and not to demonstrate how good a pilot they are. Test pilots who take an aircraft to understand a problem, who deliberately and cooly take an aircraft into a dangerous part of the flight envelope, get my deepest respect. Type in 'Bob Hoover', see a master at work.

When I was there in 1981. you landed on a grass runway.
SkillCandy 2 years ago
@SkillCandy It was paved around year 2004.

I'm going climbing in Nepal in the new year and will definately be scared out of my mind on this runway! But the view looks amazing! :)
boomdeyadaa 2 years ago
The runway is at a 12 degree angle and at the end is a 700 meter drop.
I know I have just come back from climbing Everest.

are these powerlines I am seeing throughout the preflight checklist?
Spanduer90 3 years ago
yes, but....at this airport, u can only land and takeoff one way due to the cliffs behind the runway. so, it does not get in the way.

ahh, must be purdy exciting to land/takeoff here

vladastorian 3 years ago
I hope you didn't fly there, because there was a plane crash (12 people killed) right after your post in october. Are you still living? I hope so.
Its horribly dangerous. I wouldnt fly there, I think.
MADhasi 3 years ago
Sry that i must correct you: 12 of the dead people were Germans, then there were 2 Australians and 3 Vietnamese people said the news...
