Cheryl what a great video! you work wonders with bull dogs, we all know they can be a little bull headed ;), check out my female bull dog with the brown spot in her back :) Scott
This video was done when Gabe was just over one year old--and he exhibited that same attention at 5 wks! He ended up being the #6 Non-Sporting Dog for Novice Obedience in 2008. We haven't shown much in OB since, but hope to get back into the Open ring soon!
Ms. Knapp. I seen Gabe on the Internet and voted for him before the awards, and I have been in shock and awe ever since. I have shown his amazing video to everyone.I always wanted a English Bulldog and now want one badly. You have done what no one else has ever done. I flipped when I seen him on the hobby horse. You have trained a star there. I love Gabe. You have done terrific, Cesar Milan says, the bulldogs are the hardest to train, You deserve an Oscar!! C.Rogers
Thanks! If you like his tricks then please VOTE for him once a day, everyday, through the end of the month in the Worldwide Fido Semi-Finals--one dog in each of the six categories will be flown to LA for the live TV finals & the chance to win $20,000! :) Support your local Bully!!!
Maybe your bulldog has you outsmarted! This breed is VERY smart (contrary to popular opinion!) I've had several and they've done all kinds of things and compete with the best of them in the obedience ring, too!
Gabe is amazing! We have a Bully - Gimli, and he's 2 1/2. He rolls over, fetchs like a freak, and loves to play hide 'n go seek with the kids. He also loves cats - just loves 'em, like the old Bugs Bunny cartoon with Marc Anthony :)
wow hes amazing... do you have any tips for me i recently adopted a 4 month old american bully and have only had him for a week but i can see im gonna have my hands full with training...he has alot of bad habits that the shelter let him get away with.
Treat him like a "toddler"--lots of love and consistency. I use feeding time as a primary training time & my dogs learn to sit/stay for their food-later I incorporate new things they're learning into this time. Lots of praise & treats (small but frequent at first, then phase them out as he learns) Keep it fun and short :)
You bet! Bulldogs are VERY smart and I have had several and they have all been fast learners & have given the other breeds a run for their money in the obedience/rally rings! We are usually among the top dogs in the class. I think most bulldogs outsmart their owners :) Of course they are too smart to work for "free"--you just have to make it worth their while. Check out my other videos to see Rosie, Chubbs & Bailey (Bailey is Chubbs' son, owned/shown by his new mom.
WOW! I have 2 Bullie pups (both are 6 months) Bull dogs are very very smart. They new how to sit by the the time the where 10 weeks just by us noding our head, Still having a few problems with jumping and them going pottie in one place in the yard. How did you train him to go in one spot like that??? That was great
We made our "potty box" specifically to keep our lawn nice. I use enzymes to keep it fresh and completely change the shavings each week (spot cleaning in between)...it has to be kept fresh or they won't use it. Just take them out to the area on leash at first and tell them to "go potty" or whatever you use. Give a treat and lots of praise when they are successful. I will run out quickly to the box and call them while they are still learning...they pick it up pretty fast! especially with treats!
My girl, Gracie, was the first bulldog to earn a UDX. She had several OTCH points, High Combined and HIT awards in her career. Her full name was Beefeater's Amazin' Grace of SBK, CGC,UDX. You may have seen her photo with her surrounded by all her ribbons on the Front & Finish website :)
If anyone could do it I have faith it would e you. Go for it! I would love to see it happen.
I saw you competing in open with one of your dogs (not sure which one) several years ago at the Nisqually KC show/trial in August in Lacy (?) WA. Truly amazing!
All the tricks are very entertaining but I wanted to comment on the heeling which is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I am amazed he's only 14 months old. Great trainer!
Thanks! Gabe earned his Rally Novice title at 7.5 mos old with placings each time and his CD title by 11 mos--looking forward to lots more in the years to come--and MAYBE the 1st bulldog OTCH :) (gotta have goals, right?)
Hi Cheryl, OMG I love this guy! Gabe is so beautiful and smart. You make a perfect team. I can see all the love you have for your bullies. LMBO ON THE ROCKING HORSE PART!!!Hugs from your BDW friends, Linda and Dozer
Well, the dogs THINK it's theirs! When we take it out we "can't leave home without 'em"! It's a 27' 1975 International--and quite cozy! One of our litters was born on the tail end of camping in it and the three boys were dubbed, "The Airstream Aces" :)
Not true, but it can happen sometimes. We had three white pups in Gabe's litter and none were deaf. Their sire is white as well, with several white dogs in the pedigree and none were deaf.
This dog took 9 years to train, hopefully it was worth the weight...
