  • I'M YOUNG AND TOTALLY LOVE THIS MUSIC CAUSE I'M EDUCATED

on a sidenote, despite the evident sarcasm of the comment, the stereotype of annoying young 'i listen to good music' comment kid fits me perfectly

on a further sidenote, i like this music

  • And somewhere at the end of that rainbow, there's a pot of gold waiting. :-)

  • speaking of the bari player what brand is that? i know the mouthpiece setup but im stumped on the horn itself

  • love how its one sound and not one player standing out. even thought i'm a personal fan of the baritone player..... he's a beast

  • muy bueno tocan casi como yo!! jejeje humildemente... espero llegar algundia a ese nivel!

  • Hey steven

  • i want a quartet to play with me

  • Gorgeous! I love their Adagio, its perfect. Sends chills up my spine every time. God I love the saxophone

  • Im playing The first song next year! 5/5. Wonderful sounds! I wish i played Bari as good as him..........

  • The bari player has a vandoren optimum ligature on his horn!!! That's what I have for my alto :)

  • I have one for alto sax and I love it...

  • Wuahhh!! This is soooo amazing!! I've played alto for about 9 months now and might be changing to tenor. I need some good songs and/or advice. Anyone?

  • Stick to whats able to challenge u, but at the same time will not make you go dizzy when you look at it.

Voxman edited a book of selections in a Rubank method. My instrustor used to refer to it as "the green book." All it has are solos, they range from pretty easy to intense. The songs are transcriptions from other solos, they include Mozart and Combelle.

  • Thanks so much! Will do.

  • what kind of advice do you mean??? I've played the sax for over 10 years. I play the tenor and I can answer questions....

  • love the bari sax players hat

  • @staros97400 OF COURSE baritonists arethe best! :) I guess you can figure why i'm saying so

  • Great playing, great audience!

  • omg i wanna play like this~

    Saxquartets are so beautiful <3

I think its one of the best instruments for a quartet.. =P

  • circular breathing at 3:53 exemplary!!!

  • The tenor and bari worked very well together and produced a nasty tone in "Here to There" great job guys!!

  • they sound beautiful

  • holy shit! bari player so awesome! great players!!!!!!

  • these guys are cool i saw them yesterday

  • Это не неописуемо достойно!

  • This seems to weird to me, that all these people would gather to listen to saxophones. Maybe that's what people in Amsterdam do. Here in America you would never see that many people at a concert like that.

  • sad but true... if you stuck this into the mix at a public concert thier set would probably be the one most people skip for food and the loo... =/

  • yes it's quite a testament to how dumbed down american culture is. you are definitely right, that in america a gathering to hear skilled musicians play merely for the sake of their musical abilities would rarely have so many people..... quite pathetic.

  • Well I go to an arts school in the afternoons and there's other departments like dance, writing, theatre, visual arts but i'm in music and when they come to our performances they talk about how boring it is and how much they hate it.

  • Dosen't mean saxes aren't cool. America is just a little part of this big world.

  • I'm not saying that. I'm a sax player myself and love it. I'm saying how much of the American teen culture has moved on from classical and jazz to newer music and it is sad how and why that is so.

  • Oh, now I understand...and I agree.

  • HEY! I'm fifteen and listening (in complete awe) of this. Not all of us are uncultured morons.

  • there is a bari sax

the dude with the hat is playin it

  • he sed a bari sax SOLO

    xD

    but yea he was awesome

  • Songs for Tony 1 had me movin, Adagio was sooooo beautiful, Here to There sounded like so much fun, wasn't big on the Somewhere piece, Arabian Waltz was KICK ASS!...all in all, I think i've found my new favorite sax quartet, lol.

  • Absolutely beautiful guys. Thanks

  • makes me want to take up alto sax again

  • why isn't there an baritone sax solo

  • nice tenor solos

  • alto bud, alto

  • The variation on adaigo was absolutely amazing. This makes me proud to be a sax player!!

  • i'm a saxophone player too! what type of saxophone do you play?

  • I play Bari!

    What about you?

  • Very nicely done!!!!!!!!

  • loved the one at 3:07

  • EXCELLENT ! BRAVO!

  • WOOO! I'm a bari palayer, great video!

  • I'm really impressed by the Bari player's ability to balance volume in the second song. NICELY DONE!

  • cause bari players are hardcore... they are the underlying foundation of any quartet ... u have three brilliant players and then a dud bari its no good... but this vid is truly great... great control from all players... and bonus point for memorisation...

  • Why are Bari players always the cool ones lol.

  • not all the time my friend

  • I wouldn't mind trying out a sop sax sometime :)

    VERY nicely done.

Makes me wanna call up the old saxophone section from highschool and get a quartet going. :)

  • wow sounds sooo cool & beautiful i play sax but i have been trying to form quartet since i saw this video but its so hard to find 3 other saxophone players!!!! -thanks for inspiration

  • They are such a good ensemble! theyre playing is superb! and the communication that they have when playing!

    Brilliant

  • What's the piece they play after Barber's adagio? The third piece?

  • m. nyman as in marzi nyman?

  • no, michael nyman.

    very good composer!

songs for tony is one of my favourtie saxophone quartet pieces, its a shame this is only an excerpt!

  • Wow, perfect intonation, and excellent vibrato. The adagio in particular was amazing. They are truly seasoned veterans of their craft.

  • the best part is that they are not veterans, but fresh, masters of the craft. My personal favorite quartet.

  • the bari sax player's hat is cool haha

  • fantastic!

  • what's the 2nd piece? so beautiful...

  • adagio i believe

  • American composer Samuel Barber from his first string quartet - "Adagio for Strings".

He actually dislike all the attention it took from his other body of work. Best remembered from the movie "Platoon".

  • LOL THE 2nd PIECE IS IN SCARFACE...... IT IS BEAUTIFUL

  • wow that was great! They sounded like a string quartet with a bari sax! Its crazy! =) LOVE IT!

  • maybe a full tv rip is somewhere available? =)

  • why cant i play like that? amazing.

  • Haha, while I was scrolled down reading comments, the Adagio started, and I had to scroll back up to see that that was the Bari playing and not a cello! Truly amazing intonation! Never before have I heard the Sax played with such intensity!

  • Oh....my ....gosh....that is single handedly the most beautiful sop sax sound I've ever heard. I'm a jazz fusion alto/sop sax player and I wish I could have such a beautiful sound on sop. It really sings...just....wow

  • yea im going with... its the curved neck...

hes probably been playing since grade school... and practices an hour a day anyway...

im juast as envious as you for the people who have time to build that tone for themselves...

  • Absolutely perfect..i have no words...it´s just amazing how four voices assemble so great...

  • Absolutely perfect..i have no words...it´s just amazing how four voices assemble so great...

  • I've watched this about 30 times now, and everytime that the Adagio comes up, I sit here at my computer in awe. How any instrument, much less a saxophone, a traditionally non-orchestral instrument can play it with such feeling as the violins... It's beautiful, they're very talented. I play saxophone by the way, so I'm not dissing the instrument, I love it, xD.

  • Wow I wa simpressed with the first one and jsut about to turn it off but then heard the adagio. wow. bookmarked.

  • dude dude dude due they are amazing

  • This quartet came to my town in SoCal for a performance and I had the opportunity to see them perform live. They had absolutely PERFECT intonation. The concert was about 2 hours (w/intermission) and they played about 80% of the pieces by memory-including the extremely difficult Glazounov quartet. Plus, all of them were able to circular breathe flawlessly with no discernable pitch issues. These guys truly humbled me!!

  • OMG....very nice sound!

  • Sois geniales. Me encantaría asistir a un concierto en directo de vosotros.

  • i saw the video on internet, their whole concert at Trinity church, concertcs at one. Yea, they are good.

  • The bari sax player is Ties Mellema. He is completely amazing at all of the saxophones, especially bari and alto.

But I have a hard time finding stuff by the suprano and alto. Can someone help?

  • the guy next to the one on the left was my saxophone teacher. He is so good! Unfortunatly I have another one now. But Bas will be the best ever.

  • Where does he teach? I can't find any information about him...

  • In the Netherlands, Hillegom, De Muziekschool or Cresendo Hillegom.

  • Remco (sopran) teaches on Muziekschool Bunnik

  • OMG.... they are good! very nice sound... !!

  • OMG! I´m crying now!

  • On 1:30 right after the break, it's like they begin to play like a track of Dj Tiesto

    "Dj Tiesto power mix" !

    Very beautiful.

  • This is what a quartet should sound like. They play well and complement eachother, making the whole better than the parts. Well done!

  • soprano and alto: yanagisawa

    tenor and baritone: selmer

    right?

  • was that a prostitute on the window? lol this is amsterdam afterall. great music though.

  • forget it man check out Nigel hitchcock with Itchy fingers in da 8o's...

  • These guys had good time and a full sound. Those are usually the two things that offend me about classical sax players.

  • any sax quartet that can play Adagio for Strings and pull it off deserves serious recognition

  • But these guys are playing without music - but with the music - the best

  • Good Quartet, but check out this young quartet instead! Search for Saxophobia on Youtube.

    Awesome!

  • awesome man does anybody have the sheetmusic for this

  • great!!

  • What in God's good name does that Bari player have on his head? Freakin' Europeans...

  • its a fidora (not spelled rite maybe?) its awsome hat man

  • Me encanta! Es muy bueno...

  • Enhorabuena, suena de maravilla

  • What an honor to have such a great teacher(the sopran saxphonist Remco Jak) as my teacher

  • you guys are insanely talented!!!

  • what is the name of this piece?

  • samuel barber " adagio for strings"

this was famous screen music "platoon"

  • i play soprano and altosax and i love your interpreation of samuel barbers air

    great

  • you guys are incredibly amazing, best sax group i have ever heard. Please put up some more videos!!!

  • Hot guys playing hot stuff with the hottest quality. Someone give them more exposure!
