It sure was great to see Jake fire up Badlands after Ozzy, and a little surprising to see the band's direction take more of the 70's band Bad Company's style amidst all the Whitesnakes and Poisons of that era. I don't think anyone questioned Jake's abilities after his uber-technical playing on Bark At The Moon and Ultimate Sin, so when this came out it was actually great to hear almost a retro style that bucked the trends at the time. Such a bummer that Ray Gillen is no longer with us.
@Jaserace1 Solid comment. Nothing wrong with the Snake but yes, there was enough hard edge here to fit in the rotation of 1989 MTV but an unmistakable authenticity here that set them a little apart from most bands at the time. I knew, everyone knew, this was a musicians' band.
Rock to this and the Cult's Sonic Temple. This is rock 'n roll!
has all the classic sort of 'moments and riff's', that even to an old 80's rocker, who, make no mistake, LOVES THIS SHIT, might sound just a touch corny or dated, ..but Holy shit! this band is killer! Ray Gillen: what a fuckin' voice! i'll take my "trips down memory lane" any day, over some of the utter rubbish, that is being spewed out NOW. Long live Beautiful, Melodic, Sequence-Free, *FUN, Loud, raucous, Raunchy, Irreverent, Wonderful Fucking Hard Rock n' Roll. Forever.

@MrLefty91 underated is an understatement. Sadly, this band was overlook some how by the music industry. They only survived by the suppory of their fans; and of course the pure and authenticity of the talent by each each member of the band until the loss of Ray. I have the s/t, Voodoo Highway, and Dusk cds, and they still get plenty of spin. This genre of rock is solid and filled with great riffs...and the three gems they gave us are to be treasured.
I love all of you 80's lovers of metal. 80's metal was so unique and special. I so remember it growing up. I remember the days of having the levis jackets with all of the heavy metal sew on patches of all of the hair metal bands. The music today really doesn't compare in vocal talent, guitar playing, and overall performance of the bands of the 80's. The bands of today know this and accept it. Metal rules. Period.
Grandiosi!

I agree, Lefty...Jake E. Lee is one of the greatest Axe men ever. Just isn't dead, so he doesn't get the recognition...

Who here agrees this band is underrated. They can jam and they're not well known.

I like to call that musician's musicians. This is a band that musicians come to listen to when they want good music....and T Ride!

Was Ray Gillen a cousin or some relative of Ian from The Cult?
Robearwgl 2 years ago
Ian Gillan from Deep Purple you mean? I've wondered the same. Appearance wise they look to be related...

I was thinking Ian Astbury from the Cult but he (Ian Gillan) may have been who i was thinking of

Badlands - an underrated band who showed up just a little too late. Grunge came out and 80's rock went away. Cool song!
