We want reform not government control. Ditch the single payer and reform the existing system. If reforming the existing system doesn't work then we will consider alternatives.

Well, Friartuck, as much as I would like it to be, SINGLE PAYER IS NOT being considered. I wish it were. But single payer means free health care -- the Public Option is not free health care; subscribers must pay for it.

Ditching the public option while keeping the other amendments in the bill makes no sense whatsoever.

We already have Medicaid for the poor and Medicare for seniors. If those two programs have failed then why would we trust them with any more money. I don't see why we can't fix healthcare without having a "public option" forced on us.

Have medicare and medicaid failed? I missed that. The people who are uninsured and are not covered are not currently eligible for medicare and medicaid.

I understand your fears, but this isn't anyone wanting to control anyone -- it's about the most basic thing in the world: keeping people healthy.  And NO ONE is forcing a public option on you. The public option is NOTHING like Medicare or Medicaid. It's exactly like regular health insurance, only cheaper because there's much less overhead. It really is that simple. People haven't researched for themselves what the public option really is and there's too much misinformation out there.

I missed the "no substance" - he seems to be for a public option and reforming the current system. The single payer option as others have said is not on the table so it is the public option.

I would suggest extending medicare as an option to everyone. What is the problem with that?
