This song was composed when a professer went to visit Aushwitz there were pictures of the people that dided in the gas chambers and he saw pictures of young people who had their whole lives in front of them and a picture of an exeptionaly beautiful young lady (that reminded him of his students) haunted him for weeks after he got home and then the words of When I an Silent formed. I am in seventh grade and we sang that song last night and there was a paragragh before the song that said this.
